El que cree en mi....

Jn 6, 44-51

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los judíos: “Nadie puede venir a mí, si no lo atrae el Padre, que me ha enviado; y a ése yo lo resucitaré el último día. Está escrito en los profetas: Todos serán discípulos de Dios. Todo aquel que escucha al Padre y aprende de él, se acerca a mí. No es que alguien haya visto al Padre, fuera de aquel que procede de Dios. Ese sí ha visto al Padre.

Yo les aseguro: el que cree en mí, tiene vida eterna. Yo soy el pan de la vida. Sus padres comieron el maná en el desierto y sin embargo, murieron. Éste es el pan que ha bajado del cielo para que, quien lo coma, no muera. Yo soy el pan vivo que ha bajado del cielo; el que coma de este pan vivirá para siempre, y el pan que yo les voy a dar es mi carne para que el mundo tenga vida”.

“No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draw him,
and I will raise him on the last day.
It is written in the prophets:

They shall all be taught by God.

Everyone who listens to my Father and learns from him comes to me.
Not that anyone has seen the Father
except the one who is from God;
he has seen the Father.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes has eternal life.
I am the bread of life.
Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, but they died;
this is the bread that comes down from heaven
so that one may eat it and not die.
I am the living bread that came down from heaven;
whoever eats this bread will live forever;
and the bread that I will give
is my Flesh for the life of the world.”

Meditacion:

"El que cree en mi tiene vida eterna" dice el Evangelio de hoy. Y en la primera lectura, Felipe se encuentra con un ministro etiope y en una corta evangelizacion, lo bautiza.

Tuvo suerte el etíope. La catequesis bautismal no duró lo que sugiere el “Ritual para la iniciación cristiana de adultos”, con sus entregas y plazos marcados. Lo suyo fue llegar y besar el santo. Y bautizarse. Le fue bien con el catequista, un apóstol enviado por un ángel de Dios. Y, sobre todo, tuvo la mente abierta, para poder entender lo que, cuando comenzó a leer, le resultaba incomprensible. Porque no hay peor sordo que el que no quiere oír, ni persona más tonta, que la que no quiere entender. El ministro quería comprender. Y aceptó la ayuda que un extraño le ofrecía. Por esa disposición de búsqueda, llegó al encuentro con Cristo. Y, en cuanto encontraron agua, se pudo bautizar.

Nuevamente,  “el que cree tiene vida eterna”. Esa fue la experiencia de este importante personaje. Creyó. Se le abrió un nuevo camino en la vida, en el que ya no importaban tanto las prebendas y la carrera profesional, sino el crecimiento personal y espiritual. Una nueva vida, que no acabó con su muerte. Su historia ha llegado hasta nuestro tiempo. Y sirve de ejemplo para muchos.

Otra frase, “serán todos discípulos de Dios”. ¡Qué importante es que todos – y no solo los curas y monjas – seamos capaces de dar testimonio! En las noticias, en la television, se habla poco de Dios. Así es difícil que la Buena Nueva se expanda. Por eso es tan importante caer en la cuenta de que no necesitamos que un ángel nos lleve de los pelos por los aires a evangelizar. Esto no va a pasar. Es deber de cada creyente, en todo momento, a tiempo y a destiempo, en la salud y en la enfermedad, en la riqueza y en la pobreza, ser testigos de Dios. Hay mucha gente que no entiende quién es Dios, cómo es, y es nuestra obligación compartir lo que nosotros sí entendemos. Y lo que sabemos, seguramente, lo entendimos gracias a otros.

El neófito siguió su camino “lleno de alegría”. Quizá esa sea la mejor manera de dar testimonio. No se puede convencer de que seguir a Cristo es algo que llene de felicidad, si lo hacemos con una cara triste. Deberíamos ser referencias alegres, sobre todo en estos momentos de incertidumbre y tristeza. Porque Dios está con nosotros, nos busca siempre y nos va llevando, hasta la vida eterna.

“Ven, Espíritu Santo, y ayúdanos a salir a compartir con los demás la buena noticia de Cristo Jesús, dando testimonio de nuestra propia experiencia de conversión y crecimiento en la fe.” Amen

"He who believes in me has eternal life" says today's Gospel. And in the first reading, Philip meets an Ethiopian minister and in a short evangelization, baptizes him.

The Ethiopian was lucky. The baptismal catechesis did not last what the “Ritual for Christian Initiation of Adults” suggests, with its deliveries and marked deadlines. His thing was to come and kiss the saint. And get baptized. He did well with the catechist, an apostle sent by an angel of God. And, above all, he had an open mind, to be able to understand what, when he started reading, was incomprehensible to him. Because there is no worse deaf person than the one who does not want to hear, nor the dumbest person, who does not want to understand. The minister wanted to understand. And he accepted the help that a stranger offered him. Through this willingness to search, he came to meet Christ. And, as soon as they found water, he could be baptized.

Again, "he who believes has eternal life." That was the experience of this important character. Believed. A new path was opened in life, in which the benefits and the professional career no longer mattered so much, but personal and spiritual growth. A new life, which did not end with his death. Its history has reached our time. And it serves as an example for many.

Another phrase, "they will all be disciples of God." How important it is that all of us - and not just priests and nuns - be able to bear witness! In the news, on television, little is said about God. Thus it is difficult for the Good News to spread. This is why it is so important to realize that we do not need an angel to take us by the hair to evangelize. This is not going to happen. It is the duty of every believer, at all times, on time and at the wrong time, in health and disease, in wealth and in poverty, to be witnesses of God. There are many people who do not understand who God is, what He is like, and it is our obligation to share what we do understand. And what we know, surely, we understood thanks to others.

The neophyte continued on his way "full of joy". Perhaps that is the best way to bear witness. You cannot convince yourself that following Christ is something that fills you with happiness, if you do it with a sad face. We should be happy references, especially in these moments of uncertainty and sadness. Because God is with us, he always looks for us and he takes us to eternal life.

"Come, Holy Spirit, and help us to go out and share with others the good news of Jesus Christ, bearing witness to our own experience of conversion and growth in faith." Amen
