Jn 8, 51-59
Contestó Jesús: “Si yo me glorificara a mí mismo, mi gloria no valdría nada.

GospelJN 8:51-59
Jesus said to the Jews:
“Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever keeps my word will never see death.”
So the Jews said to him,
“Now we are sure that you are possessed.
Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say,
‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’
Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died?
Or the prophets, who died?
Who do you make yourself out to be?”
Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing;
but it is my Father who glorifies me,
of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’
You do not know him, but I know him.
And if I should say that I do not know him,
I would be like you a liar.
But I do know him and I keep his word.
Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day;
he saw it and was glad.”
So the Jews said to him,
“You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?”
Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
before Abraham came to be, I AM.”
So they picked up stones to throw at him;
but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing;
but it is my Father who glorifies me,
of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’
You do not know him, but I know him.
And if I should say that I do not know him,

But I do know him and I keep his word.

Meditacion:
Amen

For Jesus' contemporaries it was difficult enough to accept him as a prophet or even as the Messiah; but he posed an even greater challenge to them: to believe that he was the Son of God, capable of communicating divine life. This meant that he was one with the Most High, an identity that no other human being had.
When Jesus said "I assure you that before Abraham was born, I am" he said something much more significant than just saying that he had existed since before Abraham. "I am" was an expression understood as the "name" of God, and thus it appears in several passages of Scripture, such as Isaiah 41, 4; 43, 10; 45, 18, although it is not always clearly stated. Then, presenting himself as "I am", Jesus clearly identified with God.
In the same way, in the "Personified Wisdom" that we read in the book of Proverbs, Jesus was present with God in the whole process of creation (Proverbs 8, 27-31), he always remained with God (John 1, 1- 5) and will never cease to be God (Revelation 11, 15). The Father's Plan to rescue his people from sin and death invariably included his Son, who always remained in the closest communion and the most complete agreement with the Father regarding the salvation that he would carry out in the world.
All these concepts may seem highly theoretical and abstract, but they carry something very concrete that can communicate health and promises. Because Jesus is God, we can place our lives in his hands with absolute confidence; Because he loves us with a love that began from before creation and that was manifested more fully in the sacrifice of his death on the cross in rescue of each of his children. And all this because his love is eternal. Jesus is the Son of the Father, eternally faithful, who will never abandon those who have trusted him; Therefore, every day when facing daily challenges, if our faith feels shaken, let's stand firm remembering that Jesus never changes and that he is the same yesterday, today and forever (Hebrews 13, 8).
Finally and as an anecdotal passage appears the famous "chronological quote" about which many theologians and exegetes continue to argue, I refer to that "chronological suggestion" that seems to make Jesus a little older than we usually imagine: "You do not have yet fifty years". In other words, he must not have walked too far. Or is fifty here only of symbolic value? The discussions continue ...
"Jesus, Lord and Savior of mine, I totally place my life in your holy hands, because I know that I will never be disappointed." Amen
