Jn 21, 20-25

GospelJN 21:20-25
Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved,
the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper
and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?”
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?
You follow me.”
So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die.
But Jesus had not told him that he would not die,
just “What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?”
the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper
and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?”
It is this disciple who testifies to these things
and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.
There are also many other things that Jesus did,
but if these were to be described individually,
I do not think the whole world would contain the books
that would be written.
and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.
There are also many other things that Jesus did,
but if these were to be described individually,
I do not think the whole world would contain the books
that would be written.

Meditacion:
Amen

We come to the final pages of the Fourth Gospel, where we find two of his main followers together with Jesus: Peter and the "beloved disciple", of whom we have no news from the other gospels. In this he is named twice as "the other disciple" (Jn 18,15-16; 20,3-4.8) and six times as "the disciple whom Jesus loved". And between the two there seems to be a certain tension.
Who is this beloved disciple? We find nowhere a reference to his name. For various reasons that it is not appropriate to develop here, very few scholars consider that it could be "Juan", the fisherman of Galilee, the son of Zebedee. Different hypotheses have been proposed, but there is no general agreement. It does seem quite certain that he was not part of the stable group of the Twelve Apostles. We well know that Jesus had many other followers who were not part of that special group.
But notice one thing here. When Peter, very humanely, asks Jesus about this disciple, He only answers me "what do you care? You follow me". It is important to highlight this because it tells us about the personal and unique character that each one of us has with Jesus and our history of salvation.
No one is in the middle of that relationship, it is only us and God who know where we are.
Alone, in front of the tabernacle, there are no lies, there is only our life and its achievements and its problems, the blacks and whites there, exposed forever.
And in that intimate, personal and unique moment, the only thing that Jesus asks of us is still the great order: Love God above all things and love his brothers. Not much else.
We are muleteers and on the way we are brothers. So many things are happening every day that the only way to stay focused is to look at Jesus who walks by our side, in an infinite dialogue of souls until the last of our days.
"Jesus keeps the flame of my faith alive until I fly to your Kingdom"
Amen
