Yo soy la vid

Jn 15, 1-8

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Yo soy la verdadera vid y mi Padre es el viñador. Al sarmiento que no da fruto en mí, él lo arranca, y al que da fruto lo poda para que dé más fruto.

Ustedes ya están purificados por las palabras que les he dicho. Permanezcan en mí y yo en ustedes. Como el sarmiento no puede dar fruto por sí mismo, si no permanece en la vid, así tampoco ustedes, si no permanecen en mí. Yo soy la vid, ustedes los sarmientos; el que permanece en mí y yo en él, ése da fruto abundante, porque sin mí nada pueden hacer. Al que no permanece en mí se le echa fuera, como al sarmiento, y se seca; luego lo recogen, lo arrojan al fuego y arde.

Si permanecen en mí y mis palabras permanecen en ustedes, pidan lo que quieran y se les concederá. La gloria de mi Padre consiste en que den mucho fruto y se manifiesten así como discípulos míos’’.

“I am the true vine, and my Father is the vine grower.
He takes away every branch in me that does not bear fruit,
and everyone that does he prunes so that it bears more fruit.

Remain in me, as I remain in you.
Just as a branch cannot bear fruit on its own
unless it remains on the vine,
so neither can you unless you remain in me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit,
because without me you can do nothing.
Anyone who does not remain in me
will be thrown out like a branch and wither;
people will gather them and throw them into a fire
and they will be burned.
If you remain in me and my words remain in you,
ask for whatever you want and it will be done for you.
By this is my Father glorified,
that you bear much fruit and become my disciples.”

Meditacion:

No podemos olvidar de que hoy es el día de Nuestra Señora de Fátima. En muchos lugares se venera y se honra a nuestra Madre bajo esa querida y famosa advocación. Tengamos hoy también nosotros un recuerdo emocionado y agradecido a nuestra Madre que, inquieta por la salvación del mundo, nos repite constantemente: “Haced lo que Él os diga”. Bajo su presencia y amparo acogemos la Palabra que el evangelio nos ofrece en el día de hoy.

El evangelio presenta una parábola de Jesús, bellísima y de fácil comprensión. Aunque presenta a tres personajes: Él mismo (que es la vid); el Padre (que es el labrador) y nosotros (que somos os sarmientos); sin embargo, se centra en dos: lo que hace Dios y en lo que debemos hacer nosotros.

El Padre o corta o poda. Con dos verbos se expresan las dos maneras de actuar de Dios que, en el fondo, son consecuencias de nuestras decisiones. Quien no conecta con Jesús, quien no está injertado en Él y recibe una transfusión de vida en su organismo, se seca. Quien no recibe su misericordia medicinal que cura la ramita que se astilla, se marchita inútilmente. Por el contrario, quien se deja podar las partes estériles o enfermas, crece y da fruto. Dios Padre quiere ser viñador que poda, no leñador que tala. Esa poda quirúrgica es dolorosa pero eficaz. A esas podas las llamamos “pruebas”. Solamente recortando lo inútil se consigue que ese «trasvase» íntimo de vida desde la cepa proporcione el máximo vigor a los sarmientos para dar fruto.

Los sarmientos, para dar fruto, deber permanecer unidos a la vid. La expresión “permanecer” es muy querida por el Señor. La repetirá muchas veces. Especialmente, como aquí, en la última cena: Permaneced en el Señor. No dice: “Trabajad mucho, moveos, esforzaos”. Esto lo da por sentado, pero va a lo más importante y, también, lo que es más peligroso para la vida si no se hace: “Permaneced en mí para dar fruto abundante”. Solo los que permanecen unidos a Jesús dan fruto abundante. Sin estar unidos personalmente a Jesús, lo que hacemos con nuestras solas fuerzas es estéril. Puede que sirva para maquillar un poco la realidad en la que nos movemos, pero no para transformarla. La identidad cristiana no es un contrato de trabajo: no. Es apostolado. Tú, si permaneces en el Señor, en su Palabra y en su vida, del Señor, serás un apóstol. Si no te mantienes unido a Él, serás uno que simpatiza con su doctrina, si acaso que le valora y admira como un hombre muy bueno, que defiende los valores correctos, pero sin estar unidos y dar fruto no existe verdadera identidad cristiana.

Under his presence and protection we welcome the Word that the Gospel offers us today.

The Gospel presents a parable of Jesus, beautiful and easy to understand. Although it features three characters: Himself (which is the vine); the Father (who is the farmer) and we (who are the branches); However, it focuses on two: what God does and what we must do.

The Father either cuts or prunes. With two verbs the two ways of acting of God are expressed that, basically, are consequences of our decisions. Whoever does not connect with Jesus, who is not grafted onto Him and receives a transfusion of life in his organism, dries up. Whoever does not receive his medicinal mercy that cures the splintering twig, withers uselessly. On the contrary, whoever leaves the sterile or diseased parts pruned grows and bears fruit. God the Father wants to be a vinedresser who prunes, not a woodcutter who cuts down. This surgical pruning is painful but effective. We call these prunings "tests". Only by cutting back on the useless it is possible that this intimate "transfer" of life from the vine provides the maximum vigor to the branches to bear fruit.

The branches, to bear fruit, must remain attached to the vine. The expression "abide" is very dear to the Lord. He will repeat it many times. Especially, like here, at the Last Supper: Stay in the Lord. It does not say: "Work hard, move, try hard." This he takes for granted, but it goes to the most important and, also, what is most dangerous for life if it is not done: "Remain in me to bear abundant fruit." Only those who remain united to Jesus bear abundant fruit. Without being personally united to Jesus, what we do with our own strength is sterile. It may serve to make up the reality in which we move a little, but not to transform it. Christian identity is not an employment contract: no. It is an apostolate. You, if you remain in the Lord, in his Word and in your life, of the Lord, you will be an apostle. If you do not stay united with Him, you will be one who sympathizes with his doctrine, if at all who values ​​and admires him as a very good man, who defends the correct values, but without being united and bearing fruit there is no true Christian identity.
