Como orar

Mt 6, 7-15

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Cuando ustedes hagan oración, no hablen mucho, como los paganos, que se imaginan que a fuerza de mucho hablar serán escuchados. No los imiten, porque el Padre sabe lo que les hace falta, antes de que se lo pidan. Ustedes pues, oren así:

Padre nuestro, que estás en el cielo,
santificado sea tu nombre,
venga tu Reino,
hágase tu voluntad
en la tierra como en el cielo.

Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día,
perdona nuestras ofensas,
como también nosotros perdonamos a los que nos ofenden;
no nos dejes caer en tentación
y líbranos del mal.

Si ustedes perdonan las faltas a los hombres, también a ustedes los perdonará el Padre celestial. Pero si ustedes no perdonan a los hombres, tampoco el Padre les perdonará a ustedes sus faltas”.

who think that they will be heard because of their many words.
Do not be like them.
Your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

“This is how you are to pray:

‘Our Father who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy Kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.’

“If you forgive others their transgressions,
your heavenly Father will forgive you.
But if you do not forgive others,
neither will your Father forgive your transgressions.”

Meditacion:

Existe un juguete para niños pequeños, que consiste en una caja de plástico con agujeros en los que el niño debe introducir objetos en forma de pirámide, cubo o cilindro donde corresponda. Es una idea muy sencilla, pero mientras el niño no haya practicado y desarrollado la coordinación, le cuesta alinear las figuras para que calcen en los agujeros.

A veces la oración puede parecerse a tratar de colocar las figuras en los agujeros correctos. ¿Cómo es que debo rezar? ¿Por qué cosas debo pedir? ¿Qué es una oración productiva? Cuando Jesús enseñó a rezar a sus discípulos, hizo hincapié en los elementos principales de la oración: hacerla simple y con sinceridad. La oración del Padre Nuestro, tan conocida por todos, no es simplemente una hermosa plegaria; en ella el Señor nos enseña cómo se debe orar.

Por ejemplo, muchas palabras no necesariamente se traducen en una mejor oración. De hecho, entre menos hablemos cuando rezamos, más tiempo tendremos para escuchar a Dios. A veces nuestras palabras, aunque sean bien intencionadas y devotas, pueden ahogar lo que Dios quiera decirnos.

Es en el silencio y la sencillez que somos capaces de percibir la voluntad de Dios y sus pensamientos. Podemos adorarlo (“santificado sea tu nombre”) y someternos a lo que él quiere (“hágase tu voluntad”). Luego podemos confiar en que él proveerá para nosotros (“danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día”) y reconciliarnos con él y con los demás (“perdona nuestras ofensas, como también nosotros perdonamos”). Cuando en la oración procuramos reorientar nuestros deseos, necesidades y punto de vista, Dios Padre nos permite conocer más profundamente lo que está en su corazón y en su mente.

Esa es la clave para tener una “oración productiva”. Mientras pasamos tiempo con Dios, nos entregamos a él y lo escuchamos, él nos asemeja más a él. La oración es más profunda, la intercesión expresa una mayor confianza en él y el arrepentimiento nos transforma. Al igual que un niño que está desarrollando sus habilidades, somos más capaces de introducir la figura en el agujero correcto, y durante el proceso nos acercamos al Señor.

For example, many words do not necessarily translate into a better sentence. In fact, the less we talk when we pray, the more time we will have to listen to God. Sometimes our words, even if they are well intentioned and devout, can drown what God wants to tell us.

It is in silence and simplicity that we are able to perceive the will of God and his thoughts. We can worship him ("hallowed be your name") and submit to what he wants ("your will be done"). Then we can trust that he will provide for us ("give us our daily bread today") and reconcile with him and with others ("forgive our offenses, as we also forgive"). When in prayer we try to redirect our desires, needs and point of view, God the Father allows us to know more deeply what is in his heart and mind.

That is the key to having a "productive prayer." As we spend time with God, we give ourselves to him and listen to him, he more like us. Prayer is deeper, intercession expresses greater trust in him, and repentance transforms us. Like a child who is developing his abilities, we are better able to introduce the figure into the correct hole, and during the process we approach the Lord.

“Lord Jesus, thank you for teaching me to pray without pretense. Help me to follow your guidance and to pray my prayer with simplicity. ” Amen
