Mt 6, 1-6. 16-18

GospelMT 6:1-6, 16-18
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
When you give alms, do not blow a trumpet before you,
as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets
to win the praise of others.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you give alms,
do not let your left hand know what your right is doing,
so that your almsgiving may be secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
“Take care not to perform righteous deeds
in order that people may see them;
otherwise, you will have no recompense from your heavenly Father.
“When you pray, do not be like the hypocrites,
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
who love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on street corners
so that others may see them.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you pray, go to your inner room, close the door,
and pray to your Father in secret.
And your Father who sees in secret will repay you.
“When you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites.
They neglect their appearance,
so that they may appear to others to be fasting.
Amen, I say to you, they have received their reward.
But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face,
so that you may not appear to others to be fasting,
except to your Father who is hidden.
And your Father who sees what is hidden will repay you.”

Meditacion:
Amen

Jesus today offers us something interesting. Notice, prayer, almsgiving and fasting were in the Jewish society, the pillars of the religious tradition, as now it can be for us to go to mass.
But when going to mass or praying the rosary become empty and repetitive actions, they are useless.
One of the clearest signs that the Holy Spirit is working on us is to "naturalize" our spiritual practices because we feel that beautiful need to be closer to God.
But when we turn these practices into something empty or that we use only to "show ourselves", they don't work, we don't go anywhere.
Notice that Jesus tells us that the Father will reward any act of prayer, generosity and denial that we do in secret. And God is not mean.
What kind of gifts does the Father want to give us? The first and the best is a close relationship with him. A relationship where we feel his love more deeply, and trust his presence more fully.
You also want to give us wisdom for our lives. Through his word, his people and his Spirit, he wants to guide us in decision making so that we learn to act with justice, humility and compassion in relationships.
Another gift that the Lord loves to give us is the gift of community. As we draw closer to our Father, he introduces us to more and more of his children, our brothers and sisters. He brings us close to others so that we encourage one another, experience his love through one another, and help carry the burdens of others.
Like a waterfall, God's blessings and grace flow over us whenever we take a moment to pray in private, whenever we fast from complacency and whenever we give ourselves generously. Over time, these gifts change our hearts. Instead of walking carefully during the day, hoping that nothing bad will happen, we walk with confidence and even joy. We become more and more convinced that God is with us, always ready to give us a double portion of his grace.
"Thank you Father for your generosity. I want to receive everything you have for me. I trust that you will only give me good things. ” Amen
