Mt 11, 25-30

En aquel tiempo, Jesús exclamó: “¡Te doy gracias, Padre, Señor del cielo y de la tierra, porque has escondido estas cosas a los sabios y entendidos, y las has revelado a la gente sencilla! Gracias, Padre, porque así te ha parecido bien.

El Padre ha puesto todas las cosas en mis manos. Nadie conoce al Hijo sino el Padre, y nadie conoce al Padre sino el Hijo y aquel a quien el Hijo se lo quiera revelar.

Vengan a mí, todos los que están fatigados y agobiados por la carga, y yo les daré alivio. Tomen mi yugo sobre ustedes y aprendan de mí, que soy manso y humilde de corazón, y encontrarán descanso, porque mi yugo es suave y mi carga ligera”.

"I give praise to you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth,
for although you have hidden these things
from the wise and the learned
you have revealed them to little ones.
Yes, Father, such has been your gracious will.
All things have been handed over to me by my Father.
No one knows the Son except the Father,
and no one knows the Father except the Son
and anyone to whom the Son wishes to reveal him.

"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."

¿Te has preguntado cuál es el origen de las fiestas de la Iglesia? Algunas de estas son los eventos principales de la vida del Señor: Navidad, Pascua, la Transfiguración y Pentecostés. Otras celebraciones ponen de relieve una doctrina particular de nuestra fe, como el domingo de la Santísima Trinidad y la Exaltación de la Santa Cruz. Y luego hay días como hoy, en que celebramos algún atributo de Jesús y de la Persona que él es. Al igual que el domingo de la Divina Misericordia, la fiesta del Sagrado Corazón es la forma en que Dios nos recuerda que la puerta que nos lleva al cielo siempre se encuentra abierta. Es la manera en que Dios nos invita a acercarnos a Jesús y experimentar su amor.

La Devoción al Sagrado Corazón de Jesús surgió en el siglo XI. Para el siglo XVI, la imagen del Corazón de Jesús, traspasado por una lanza y rodeado de una corona de espinas, había empezado a ganar popularidad, principalmente debido a que las órdenes franciscanas y jesuitas la habían difundido. Pero la fuente más importante de esta devoción surgió de una humilde Hermana de la Visitación en Francia, Santa Margarita María de Alacoque (1647-1690). En una serie de visiones, Jesús le pidió a Margarita María que le ayudara a establecer un día especial de fiesta dedicado a su Sagrado Corazón. Ella describió el Sagrado Corazón de Jesús como “un abismo de amor para satisfacer toda necesidad.” En 1856, el Papa Pío IX instituyó este día, el viernes después de la Solemnidad de Corpus Christi, como una fiesta universal de la Iglesia.

La celebración de hoy es una invitación al igual que una conmemoración. Jesús nos invita a entrar en su corazón; a abandonarnos en su amor y descubrir el poder de ese amor que sana las heridas, aviva la esperanza y nos protege del miedo; nos invita a descubrir otra vez la intensidad del amor que nos tiene. Nunca nada podrá apagarlo, ni siquiera los pecados que cometamos ni nuestra indignidad.

Hermanos, aceptemos hoy esta invitación. Fijemos los ojos en el Corazón de Jesús y permite que su amor fluya sobre ti y te levante hacia el cielo.

“Señor Jesús, manso y humilde de corazón, haz que mi corazón sea como el tuyo.” Amen

Have you ever wondered what is the origin of the feasts of the Church? Some of these are the main events of the Lord's life: Christmas, Easter, the Transfiguration and Pentecost. Other celebrations highlight a particular doctrine of our faith, such as Sunday of the Holy Trinity and the Exaltation of the Holy Cross. And then there are days like today, when we celebrate some attribute of Jesus and the Person that he is. Like Divine Mercy Sunday, the feast of the Sacred Heart is the way in which God reminds us that the door that leads us to heaven is always open. It is the way in which God invites us to approach Jesus and experience his love.

The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus emerged in the 11th century. By the 16th century, the image of the Heart of Jesus, pierced by a spear and surrounded by a crown of thorns, had begun to gain popularity, mainly because the Franciscan and Jesuit orders had spread it. But the most important source of this devotion came from a humble Sister of the Visitation in France, Santa Margarita María de Alacoque (1647-1690). In a series of visions, Jesus asked Margarita Maria to help her establish a special feast day dedicated to her Sacred Heart. She described the Sacred Heart of Jesus as "an abyss of love to satisfy every need." Today's celebration is an invitation as well as a commemoration. Jesus invites us to enter his heart; to abandon ourselves in his love and discover the power of that love that heals wounds, fuels hope and protects us from fear; invites us to discover again the intensity of the love he has for us. Nothing can ever quench it, not even the sins we commit or our unworthiness.

Brothers, let us accept this invitation today. Let us fix our eyes on the Heart of Jesus and allow his love to flow over you and lift you up to heaven.
