Amen a sus enemigos

Mt 5, 43-48

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Han oído ustedes que se dijo: Ama a tu prójimo y odia a tu enemigo; yo, en cambio, les digo: Amen a sus enemigos, hagan el bien a los que los odian y rueguen por los que los persiguen y calumnian, para que sean hijos de su Padre celestial, que hace salir su sol sobre los buenos y los malos, y manda su lluvia sobre los justos y los injustos.

Porque si ustedes aman a los que los aman, ¿qué recompensa merecen? ¿No hacen eso mismo los publicanos? Y si saludan tan sólo a sus hermanos, ¿qué hacen de extraordinario? ¿No hacen eso mismo los paganos? Ustedes, pues, sean perfectos, como su Padre celestial es perfecto”.

“You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”

Meditacion:

¡Qué desafío! ¿Puede alguien decir que ya ha logrado la perfección? Jesús nos conoce y sabe que aquello que nos pide no es imposible. Todo lo que desea es que tomemos el camino que nos lleva a la perfección. San Cipriano, obispo del norte de África en el siglo III d.C., reflexionó sobre estas palabras de Jesús y alentó a su congregación a poner atención a cómo se relacionaban los unos con los otros. Escuchémoslo nosotros también hoy y pidámosle al Espíritu Santo que nos libre de las divisiones, los celos y la arrogancia:

“Si quieres alcanzar los premios del cielo, despójate de toda mala intención y refórmate en Cristo. Tienes que quitar las espinas y los abrojos de tu corazón para que la semilla del Señor produzca una cosecha abundante, de manera que la amargura que se ha depositado en tu corazón sea diluida por la dulzura de Cristo. Al recibir el sacramento de la cruz, deja que el madero que figuradamente endulzó el agua en Mara (Éxodo 15, 25) actúe en la realidad para ablandarte el corazón.

“Ama a los que odias; muéstrate servicial con los que envidias. Imita a los buenos, o al menos alégrate con ellos en su virtud; en lugar de impedirles el paso, practica el vínculo de la fraternidad. Porque solamente se te perdonan los pecados cuando tú has perdonado a los demás, y luego Dios te recibirá en paz.

“Si quieres que tus pensamientos y obras sean dirigidos desde lo alto, has de considerar las cosas que son divinas y rectas. Piensa en el paraíso, al que Caín no puede entrar porque mató a su hermano por envidia; piensa en el cielo, al que Dios admite sólo a quienes tienen el corazón y la mente claramente definidos. Recuerda que solo los que abogan por la paz pueden llamarse hijos de Dios; y que todos estamos bajo la mirada de Dios, siguiendo adelante con la vida y la conversación con Dios mismo, que todo lo observa y lo juzga. Y si ahora deleitamos a Quien nos ve por nuestras acciones, y deseamos siempre agradarle, nos mostramos dignos de su favor, al final lo contemplaremos en toda su gloria.”

Hermano, con la gracia del Señor, alcanzarás la perfección. Pídele que derrame abundantemente su gracia sobre ti.

“Señor, concédeme tu fortaleza para quitar todo rencor y mala intención de mi corazón, para que yo desee complacerte siempre.”

What a challenge! Can anyone say that they have already achieved perfection? Jesus knows us and knows that what he asks of us is not impossible. All he wants is for us to take the path that leads us to perfection. Saint Cyprian, bishop of North Africa in the 3rd century AD, reflected on these words of Jesus and encouraged his congregation to pay attention to how they related to one another. Let us also listen to him today and ask the Holy Spirit to free us from divisions, jealousy and arrogance:

“If you want to reach the prizes of heaven, get rid of all bad intention and reform yourself in Christ. You have to remove the thorns and thistles from your heart so that the Lord's seed produces an abundant harvest, so that the bitterness that has been deposited in your heart is diluted by the sweetness of Christ. As you receive the sacrament of the cross, let the wood that figuratively sweetened the water in Mara (Exodus 15:25) act in reality to soften your heart.

"Love those you hate; be helpful to those you envy. Imitate the good, or at least rejoice with them in their virtue; Instead of blocking their way, practice the bond of fraternity. For sins are forgiven only when you have forgiven others, and then God will receive you in peace.

“If you want your thoughts and works to be directed from above, you have to consider things that are divine and upright. Think of paradise, which Cain cannot enter because he killed his brother out of envy; think of heaven, to which God admits only those who have a clearly defined heart and mind. Remember that only those who advocate peace can call themselves children of God; and that we are all under the gaze of God, moving on with life and conversation with God himself, who observes and judges everything. And if now we delight Whoever sees us by our actions, and we always want to please him, we show ourselves worthy of his favor, in the end we will contemplate him in all his glory. ”

Brother, with the grace of the Lord, you will reach perfection. Ask him to pour out his grace abundantly on you.

"Lord, grant me your strength to remove all rancor and bad intention from my heart, so that I want to always please you."
