En busca de las ovejas perdidas

Mt 10, 1-7

En aquel tiempo, llamando Jesús a sus doce discípulos, les dio poder para expulsar a los espíritus impuros y curar toda clase de enfermedades y dolencias.

Estos son los nombres de los doce apóstoles: el primero de todos, Simón, llamado Pedro, y su hermano Andrés; Santiago y su hermano Juan, hijos del Zebedeo; Felipe y Bartolomé; Tomás y Mateo, el publicano; Santiago, hijo de Alfeo, y Tadeo; Simón, el cananeo, y Judas Iscariote, que fue el traidor.

A estos doce los envió Jesús con estas instrucciones: “No vayan a tierra de paganos, ni entren en ciudades de samaritanos. Vayan más bien en busca de las ovejas perdidas de la casa de Israel. Vayan y proclamen por el camino que ya se acerca el Reino de los cielos”.

and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out
and to cure every disease and every illness.
The names of the Twelve Apostles are these:
first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew;
James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John;
Philip and Bartholomew,
Thomas and Matthew the tax collector;
James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus;
Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot
who betrayed Jesus.

Jesus sent out these Twelve after instructing them thus,
“Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town.
Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of heaven is at hand.’”

Meditacion:

El Señor Jesús reunió a sus doce apóstoles para enviarlos a proclamar que en su Persona había llegado el Reino de Dios. Quería que, tal como él lo había hecho, sus discípulos hablaran valientemente y con gran confianza y autoridad.

Ponte en los zapatos de los apóstoles e imagina cómo pueden haberse sentido. Hasta ese momento, Jesús los había estado guiando, enseñándoles y mostrándoles con su ejemplo cómo compartir la buena nueva de su Reino. Ahora les tocaba a ellos hacerlo por sí mismos. Pero el Señor no les dijo: “Yo sé que esto puede causarles cierto temor, pero no se preocupen si aún no se sienten listos. Si no quieren ir está bien, yo lo entiendo y lo acepto.” No, no fue eso lo que les dijo. Los había preparado bien y tenía plena seguridad de que serían capaces de hacer lo que les estaba pidiendo. Así que les propuso un desafío en vez de una sugerencia.

¿Sabías que Jesús quiere hacer lo mismo contigo? No importa si no te sientes particularmente dotado ni muy entrenado para alguna tarea que él te haya asignado. Ya sea que te pida que enseñes la fe a niños pequeños, compartas un pasaje de la Escritura con alguien que está en dificultades o te unas a la pastoral carcelaria de tu parroquia, tú no lo estarás haciendo por ti mismo. Al igual que los primeros discípulos, el Señor te envía con su autoridad (Mateo 10, 1), y por medio del Espíritu Santo derramará su gracia sobre ti y te concederá todos los dones que vayas a necesitar.

Desde luego, es probable que cometas errores o tengas algunas fallas por el camino. Quizás no sepas bien qué decir, o tal vez tengas que aprender a tomarte el tiempo para escuchar. La historia de la Iglesia está llena de relatos de personajes muy humanos que lograron, a pesar de sí mismos, proclamar la Palabra de Dios y realizar su obra en el mundo.

Si te parece que Dios te está pidiendo que hagas algo para lo que no te sientes preparado, no permitas que el temor al fracaso o la incapacidad te detenga. Da un paso adelante con fe y haz lo mejor que puedas, porque dar lo mejor de ti siempre es suficiente para el Señor.

“Amado Jesús, gracias por confiar en mí; concédeme la gracia para ser testigo de tu amor.” Amen

The Lord Jesus gathered his twelve apostles to send them to proclaim that in his Person the Kingdom of God had arrived. He wanted his disciples, just as he had, to speak bravely and with great confidence and authority.

Put yourself in the apostles' shoes and imagine how they may have felt. Until then, Jesus had been guiding, teaching, and showing them by example how to share the good news of his Kingdom. Now it was their turn to do it themselves. But the Lord did not say to them: “I know that this may cause you some fear, but do not worry if you do not feel ready yet. If they don't want to go, that's okay, I understand and accept it. ” No, that was not what he told them. He had prepared them well and he was sure that they would be able to do what he was asking them to do. So he proposed a challenge instead of a suggestion.

Did you know that Jesus wants to do the same with you? It doesn't matter if you don't feel particularly gifted or highly trained for any task he has assigned you. Whether I ask you to teach the faith to young children, share a scripture with someone who is struggling, or join the prison ministry in your parish, you will not be doing it yourself. Like the first disciples, the Lord sends you with his authority (Matthew 10: 1), and through the Holy Spirit he will pour out his grace on you and grant you all the gifts that you will need.

Of course, you are likely to make mistakes or have some glitches along the way. Maybe you don't know what to say, or maybe you have to learn to take the time to listen. The history of the Church is full of stories of very human characters who managed, in spite of themselves, to proclaim the Word of God and carry out his work in the world.

If it seems to you that God is asking you to do something you don't feel ready for, don't let fear of failure or disability stop you. Take a step forward in faith and do your best, because giving your best is always enough for the Lord.
