Mt 12, 46-50

En aquel tiempo, Jesús estaba hablando a la muchedumbre, cuando su madre y sus parientes se acercaron y trataban de hablar con él. Alguien le dijo entonces a Jesús: “Oye, ahí fuera están tu madre y tus hermanos, y quieren hablar contigo”.

Pero él respondió al que se lo decía: “¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?” Y señalando con la mano a sus discípulos, dijo: “Éstos son mi madre y mis hermanos. Pues todo el que cumple la voluntad de mi Padre, que está en los cielos, ése es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre”.

While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, “Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you.”
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
“Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother.”

Meditacion:

Todo ser humano tiene el profundo deseo de pertenecer a algo. Deseamos ser parte de una familia cariñosa, queremos que nuestros semejantes nos respeten y nos acepten; queremos que nos escuchen y nos comprendan; queremos que nos amen. Si puedes identificarte con estos anhelos, lo que en el fondo estás diciendo es: “Quiero pertenecer a Dios y a su familia.”

En el Evangelio de hoy, el Señor Jesús dice que todo el que hace la voluntad de su Padre es su hermano, su hermana o su madre; es decir, todo el que le escucha y se esfuerza por seguirlo (Mateo 17, 5). Desde luego Jesús amaba y respetaba mucho a su madre, y por supuesto jamás la despreciaría. Lo que esto significa es que aquello que define quién pertenece a su familia es algo mucho más poderoso que la consanguinidad.

¿Qué vio el Señor cuando miró a sus amigos y seguidores? Seguramente sabía que era un grupo inmaduro y disparejo: sabía que entendían poco de lo que él les enseñaba. Una y otra vez leemos que “no entendieron nada de esto, ni sabían de qué les hablaba, pues eran cosas que no podían comprender” (Lucas 18, 34). Es cierto que ellos deseaban genuinamente hacer la voluntad de su Padre; si no fuera así ¿para qué renunciarían a tantas cosas para convertirse en sus discípulos?

¿Qué estaría pensando Jesús cuando observaba a la gente reunida. Padre, los amo tanto. Yo sé que están muy confundidos y que son propensos a fallar, pero también veo que anhelan profundamente conocerte. Gracias por darme una familia de fe tan maravillosa. Él veía que eran sus hermanos, y ciertamente lo eran.

El Señor elevó a este grupo de discípulos a la altura de su propia madre; medita en esta verdad por un momento; luego cree que eso mismo es lo que piensa de ti, pues tú te encuentras exactamente en la misma situación: para él tú eres su hermano, su hermana o su madre. Tú quieres agradarlo, quieres seguirlo, quieres ser cada vez más como él, ¿cierto? Por supuesto vas a tropezar durante el camino, pero puedes estar seguro de esto: el Señor Jesús te ama tal como eres en este momento y te da la gracia para que puedas cumplir la voluntad de Dios.

“Amado Jesús, gracias por permitirme formar parte de tu familia eterna.” Amen

Every human being has a deep desire to belong to something. We want to be part of a loving family, we want our peers to respect and accept us; we want them to listen to us and understand us; we want you to love us. If you can identify with these longings, what you are basically saying is: "I want to belong to God and his family."

In today's Gospel, the Lord Jesus says that everyone who does the will of his Father is his brother, sister, or mother; that is, everyone who listens to him and makes an effort to follow him (Matthew 17, 5). Of course Jesus loved and respected his mother very much, and of course he would never despise her. What this means is that what defines who belongs to your family is something much more powerful than inbreeding.

What did the Lord see when he looked at his friends and followers? Surely he knew it was an immature and uneven group: he knew that they understood little of what he taught them. Again and again we read that "they did not understand any of this, nor did they know what he was talking about, because they were things that they could not understand" (Luke 18, 34). It is true that they genuinely desired to do the will of their Father; if not, why would they give up so many things to become his disciples?

What would Jesus be thinking when he observed the gathered people. Father, I love you so much. I know that they are very confused and that they are prone to fail, but I also see that they deeply long to know you. Thank you for giving me such a wonderful family of faith. He saw that they were his brothers, and they certainly were.

The Lord raised this group of disciples to the height of their own mother; meditate on this truth for a moment; then he believes that this is what he thinks of you, because you find yourself in exactly the same situation: for him you are his brother, sister or mother. You want to please him, you want to follow him, you want to be more and more like him, right? Of course you are going to stumble along the way, but you can be sure of this: the Lord Jesus loves you just as you are right now and gives you grace so that you can fulfill the will of God.

"Dear Jesus, thank you for allowing me to be part of your eternal family." Amen
