Mt 11, 20-24

GospelMT 11:20-24
Jesus began to reproach the towns
where most of his mighty deeds had been done,
since they had not repented.
“Woe to you, Chorazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida!
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst
had been done in Tyre and Sidon,
they would long ago have repented in sackcloth and ashes.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you.
And as for you, Capernaum:
where most of his mighty deeds had been done,
since they had not repented.
Will you be exalted to heaven?
You will go down to the nether world.
You will go down to the nether world.
For if the mighty deeds done in your midst had been done in Sodom,
it would have remained until this day.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”
it would have remained until this day.
But I tell you, it will be more tolerable
for the land of Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.”

Meditacion:

The text of the Gospel presents three denunciations, of a prophetic cut, made by Jesus to some cities in Galilee: Corazaín, Betsaida, Cafarnaún. These were Jesus' first operational spaces, which they saw firsthand and experienced the healing activity of the first Kingdom announcement (vv. 21.23). However, they are indicated as a prototype of a "capricious generation" who, like children in a plaza, are unable to interpret events since they are on another wave, as represented in the parable preceding the text today (Mt 11, 16 -19). Jesus reproaches them for the inability to recognize in the miracles that he has performed the signs of his deepest identity as the Son of God.
It hurts Jesus to see the closure of the human heart and that he is not able to recognize the liberating action of God. Rather than interpreting these "complaints" in this passage from Matthew as threats, they are rather a warning, a call to conversion. Which also continues to resonate for us today. How many "complaints" would Jesus have to give us regarding our inability to see his interventions in our daily lives. This text of the Gospel is an invitation to know how to discern how God is present in our lives, perhaps through the most unexpected ways. Hence, the change of mentality (conversion) that Jesus asks us to be more aware and grateful for the saving action of God in our lives.
"Lord Jesus help me to be more aware of your presence in my life and in that of my family" Amen
