Mt 17, 1-9

En aquel tiempo, Jesús tomó consigo a Pedro, a Santiago y a Juan, el hermano de éste, y los hizo subir a solas con él a un monte elevado. Ahí se transfiguró en su presencia: su rostro se puso resplandeciente como el sol y sus vestiduras se volvieron blancas como la nieve. De pronto aparecieron ante ellos Moisés y Elías, conversando con Jesús.

Entonces Pedro le dijo a Jesús: “Señor, ¡qué bueno sería quedarnos aquí! Si quieres, haremos aquí tres chozas, una para ti, otra para Moisés y otra para Elías”.

Cuando aún estaba hablando, una nube luminosa los cubrió y de ella salió una voz que decía: “Éste es mi Hijo muy amado, en quien tengo puestas mis complacencias; escúchenlo”. Al oír esto, los discípulos cayeron rostro en tierra, llenos de un gran temor. Jesús se acercó a ellos, los tocó y les dijo: “Levántense y no teman”. Alzando entonces los ojos, ya no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús.

Mientras bajaban del monte, Jesús les ordenó: “No le cuenten a nadie lo que han visto, hasta que el Hijo del hombre haya resucitado de entre los muertos”.

MT 17:1-9

Jesus took Peter, James, and his brother, John,
and led them up a high mountain by themselves.
And he was transfigured before them;
his face shone like the sun
and his clothes became white as light.
And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them,
conversing with him.
Then Peter said to Jesus in reply,
“Lord, it is good that we are here.
If you wish, I will make three tents here,
one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.”
While he was still speaking, behold,
a bright cloud cast a shadow over them,
then from the cloud came a voice that said,
“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased;
listen to him.”
When the disciples heard this, they fell prostrate
and were very much afraid.
But Jesus came and touched them, saying,
“Rise, and do not be afraid.”
And when the disciples raised their eyes,
they saw no one else but Jesus alone.

As they were coming down from the mountain,
Jesus charged them,
“Do not tell the vision to anyone
until the Son of Man has been raised from the dead.”

Meditacion:

La Transfiguración es uno de los relatos más memorables de las Escrituras: un Mesías esplendoroso, una experiencia sobrenatural. Conocemos bien esta historia: el Señor llevó consigo a Pedro, Santiago y Juan a la cima del monte y se transfiguró delante de sus ojos.

A menudo, creemos que para fortalecer la fe hay que hacer alguna acción. Pensamos: “Debo ser más bondadoso y generoso con las personas, especialmente con los pobres. Debo ir a Misa más a menudo.” Y hasta cierto punto esto es cierto, pues crecer en la fe sí implica un cambio en la forma en que pensamos y actuamos. Sin embargo eso es solo una parte.

También existe otro lado de la ecuación: el lado de Dios. Necesitamos su gracia y sabemos que esa gracia puede mover montañas. Ciertamente, en la trasfiguración, Dios fortaleció a Jesús en su decisión, y eso fue importante para su misión. Al mismo tiempo, la transfiguración fue por el bien de sus discípulos. Cristo quería darles una muestra de su gloria antes de su pasión que ya estaba próxima, quería ayudarles a crecer en la fe, de la misma forma en que quiere ayudarnos a nosotros.

Los místicos de la iglesia, como San Bernardo de Claraval, Santa Catalina de Siena y Santa Teresa de Ávila, nos recuerdan que las palabras se nos atraviesan cuando logramos contemplar incluso una mínima muestra de la gloria de Dios. Así como Pedro tuvo expresiones precipitadas por lo que veía, a nosotros nos puede costar encontrar palabras adecuadas para describir lo que sentimos al estar en la presencia de Dios. Pero eso está bien, porque nuestras acciones, el testimonio del gozo y la paz que experimentamos, pueden ser más elocuentes que las palabras.

Hermano, te invito a que hoy profundices en este grandioso Misterio Luminoso. Trata de visualizar que el Señor glorificado se aparece frente a ti. Permite que su amor, su majestad y su misericordia te dejen sin palabras. Deja que te recuerde que tu fe no se reduce solo a algo que hay que hacer. Permítele recordarte que él siempre está derramando su gracia divina, siempre revelando su amor, y esa revelación puede suavizar incluso los corazones más duros.

“Señor Jesús, muéstrame tu gloria.” Amen

The Transfiguration is one of the most memorable accounts in Scripture: a splendid Messiah, a supernatural experience. We know this story well: the Lord took Peter, James and John with him to the top of the mountain and was transfigured before his eyes.

Often, we believe that in order to strengthen faith, some action must be taken. We think: “I must be more kind and generous to people, especially the poor. I must go to Mass more often. ” And to some extent this is true, because growing in faith does involve a change in the way we think and act. However that is only part of it.

There is also another side to the equation: the side of God. We need his grace and we know that grace can move mountains. Certainly, at the transfiguration, God strengthened Jesus in his decision, and that was important to his mission. At the same time, the transfiguration was for the good of his disciples. Christ wanted to give them a taste of his glory before his passion that was already near, he wanted to help them grow in faith, in the same way that he wants to help us.

The mystics of the church, such as San Bernardo de Claraval, Santa Catalina de Siena and Santa Teresa de Ávila, remind us that words pierce us when we manage to contemplate even a minimal sample of the glory of God. Just as Peter had hasty expressions from what he saw, it may be difficult for us to find adequate words to describe what it feels like to be in the presence of God. But that's okay, because our actions, the testimony of the joy and peace we experience, can speak louder than words.

Brother, I invite you to delve into this great Luminous Mystery today. Try to visualize that the glorified Lord appears before you. Let his love, his majesty, and his mercy leave you speechless. Let me remind you that your faith is not just about something that needs to be done. Let him remind you that he is always pouring out his divine grace, always revealing his love, and that revelation can soften even the hardest of hearts.

"Lord Jesus, show me your glory." Amen
