Jn 1, 45-51
En aquel tiempo, Felipe se encontró con Natanael y le dijo: “Hemos encontrado a aquel de quien escribió Moisés en la ley y también los profetas. Es Jesús de Nazaret, el hijo de José”. Natanael replicó: “¿Acaso puede salir de Nazaret algo bueno?” Felipe le contestó: “Ven y lo verás”.
Cuando Jesús vio que Natanael se acercaba, dijo: “Éste es un verdadero israelita en el que no hay doblez”. Natanael le preguntó: “¿De dónde me conoces?” Jesús le respondió: “Antes de que Felipe te llamara, te vi cuando estabas debajo de la higuera”. Respondió Natanael: “Maestro, tú eres el Hijo de Dios, tú eres el rey de Israel”. Jesús le contestó: “Tú crees, porque te he dicho que te vi debajo de la higuera. Mayores cosas has de ver”. Después añadió: “Yo les aseguro que verán el cielo abierto y a los ángeles de Dios subir y bajar sobre el Hijo del hombre”.

Philip found Nathanael and told him,
“We have found the one about whom Moses wrote in the law,
and also the prophets, Jesus son of Joseph, from Nazareth.”
But Nathanael said to him,
“Can anything good come from Nazareth?”
Philip said to him, “Come and see.”
Jesus saw Nathanael coming toward him and said of him,
“Here is a true child of Israel.
There is no duplicity in him.”
Nathanael said to him, “How do you know me?”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Before Philip called you, I saw you under the fig tree.”
Nathanael answered him,
“Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel.”
Jesus answered and said to him,
“Do you believe
because I told you that I saw you under the fig tree?
You will see greater things than this.”
And he said to him, “Amen, amen, I say to you,
you will see heaven opened and the angels of God
ascending and descending on the Son of Man.”

Meditacion:
¡Qué fácil es juzgar a las personas basándose solamente en suposiciones “terrenales”! Eso fue lo que Natanael, conocido también como Bartolomé, hizo cuando oyó hablar por primera vez sobre Jesús. Solamente vio al hijo de un carpintero, un hombre de un pequeño pueblo en Galilea; pero cuando el Señor le dijo “Te vi cuando estabas debajo de la higuera”, a Natanael se le abrieron los ojos y vio al Señor Jesús bajo una nueva luz, no solo como un hombre de Nazaret sino como el “Hijo de Dios” y el “rey de Israel” (Juan 1, 48-49).
No es fácil ver las cosas con la perspectiva de la sabiduría de Dios. Natanael habló despectivamente del Señor Jesús antes de encontrarse con él; pero cuando el Señor le habló, su visión se amplió. Se dio cuenta de que Jesús ya lo conocía y que tenía reservado para él un futuro maravilloso. Después de esa conversación, su vida cambió para siempre. Decidió seguir al Señor, quien a su vez lo eligió como uno de los Doce.
Al igual que Natanael, nosotros también vemos solamente la realidad terrenal y nos perdemos la celestial. Podríamos preguntarnos “¿Qué bien puede salir de esta situación?” o “¿Qué bien puede salir de esta relación?” Pero como hizo con Natanael, el Señor quiere abrir la mente de sus fieles y darnos una perspectiva celestial; quiere ayudarnos a ver todo bajo una nueva luz, la de su amor y de sus planes para la vida de cada uno.
Deja que el Señor abra tu mente y también tu corazón. Cierra los ojos e imagínate descansando a la sombra de un árbol, como lo estaba Natanael. Mira al Señor que se te acerca, se sienta a tu lado, te mira y te dice: “Desde antes de la creación del mundo, te vi y te amé. ¿En qué piensas en este momento?” Comparte con él lo que te cause pesar o alegría y luego espera para ver qué te dice. Incluso, si no escuchas nada en ese momento, confía que en algún momento el Señor te abrirá los ojos para que veas tu vida con luz celestial.
Dios tiene “mayores cosas” reservadas para ti (Juan 1, 50), y quiere que fijes la mirada en ellas, desde ahora, y que confíes plenamente en que él llevará su obra a buen término.
“Amado Jesús, tú me elegiste, abre mi mente y mi corazón para elevarlos al cielo.” Amen

How easy it is to judge people based solely on "earthly" assumptions! That is what Nathanael, also known as Bartholomew, did when he first heard about Jesus. He only saw the son of a carpenter, a man from a small town in Galilee; But when the Lord told him “I saw you when you were under the fig tree”, Nathanael's eyes were opened and he saw the Lord Jesus in a new light, not only as a man from Nazareth but as the “Son of God” and the "king of Israel" (John 1: 48-49).
It is not easy to see things with the perspective of God's wisdom. Nathanael spoke disparagingly of the Lord Jesus before meeting him; but when the Lord spoke to him, his vision widened. He realized that Jesus already knew him and that he had a wonderful future in store for him. After that conversation, his life changed forever. He decided to follow the Lord, who in turn chose him as one of the Twelve.
Like Nathanael, we too see only the earthly reality and we miss the heavenly one. We could ask ourselves "What good can come out of this situation?" or "What good can come of this relationship?" But as he did with Nathanael, the Lord wants to open the minds of his faithful and give us a heavenly perspective; wants to help us see everything in a new light, that of his love and his plans for each other's life.
Let the Lord open your mind and also your heart. Close your eyes and imagine yourself resting in the shade of a tree, as Nathanael was. Look at the Lord who comes close to you, sits next to you, looks at you and says: “Since before the creation of the world, I saw you and loved you. What are you thinking about right now? " Share with him what causes you regret or joy and then wait to see what he says to you. Even if you don't hear anything at that moment, trust that at some point the Lord will open your eyes so that you can see your life in heavenly light.
God has "greater things" in store for you (John 1:50), and He wants you to fix your gaze on them, from now on, and fully trust that He will bring His work to fruition.
"Dear Jesus, you chose me, open my mind and my heart to raise them to heaven." Amen
