Hipocritas

Mt 23, 23-26

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los escribas y fariseos: “¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, porque pagan el diezmo de la menta, del anís y del comino, pero descuidan lo más importante de la ley, que son la justicia, la misericordia y la fidelidad! Esto es lo que tenían que practicar, sin descuidar aquello. ¡Guías ciegos, que cuelan el mosquito, pero se tragan el camello!

¡Ay de ustedes, escribas y fariseos hipócritas, que limpian por fuera los vasos y los platos, mientras que por dentro siguen sucios con su rapacidad y codicia! ¡Fariseo ciego!, limpia primero por dentro el vaso y así quedará también limpio por fuera’’.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You pay tithes of mint and dill and cummin,
and have neglected the weightier things of the law:
judgment and mercy and fidelity.
But these you should have done, without neglecting the others.
Blind guides, who strain out the gnat and swallow the camel!“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, you hypocrites.
You cleanse the outside of cup and dish,
but inside they are full of plunder and self-indulgence.
Blind Pharisee, cleanse first the inside of the cup,
so that the outside also may be clean.”

Meditacion:

No acabo de acostumbrarme del todo a estas acusaciones tan duras que se ponen en boca de Jesús contra los hipócritas. Por cierto, Jesús habla con tanta dureza a los hipócritas, que en este caso son escribas y fariseos y no al revés; lo que le indigna hasta el punto de sacarle de sí no son los escribas y fariseos por sí mismos, sino que hayan hecho de la hipocresía su modo habitual de vivir.

De hecho, el contraste es mayor si releemos el agradecimiento y valoración amable que Pablo dedica a los cristianos de Tesalónica. ¿Qué le pasa a Jesús? ¿Por qué se pone así? Vamos a tener toda la semana para contemplar su “indignación”.

En estas pocas líneas Jesús les llama hasta tres veces “ciegos”. Parece que es lo que mejor describe el corazón del hipócrita: no ve y además no sabe que no ve. Por eso no hay coherencia en su vida: su mente por un lado, sus valores por otro, sus acciones por otro… Y así arrastra a quienes se dejen llevar por él. ¿Acaso hay mayor despropósito que estar ciego y querer guiar a los demás?

Y su indignación mueve dentro de mí otra pregunta: ¿qué me indigna a mí? ¿Qué cosas o personas me sacan de quicio? … Tendré que pensarlo más despacio… Intuyo que, a veces, en mí (y en la Iglesia) nos indignan cosas que bien poco tienen que ver con la indignación de Jesús. A Jesús le importa mucho más la gente que las cosas (por sagradas que sean).

En el fondo están poniendo al descubierto dónde tengo puesto el corazón, a qué doy valor y qué relativizo, por qué estoy dispuesta a “tener problemas” y con qué hago “pactos” (por santos que sean) y miro para otro lado, mientras tantos y tantos siguen dejándose guiar por guías necios y ciegos.

“Padre, dame un corazón como el de Jesús, lleno de amor y misericordia.” Amen

I can't quite get used to these harsh accusations that are put in the mouth of Jesus against hypocrites. By the way, Jesus speaks so harshly to hypocrites, who in this case are scribes and Pharisees and not the other way around; it is not the scribes and Pharisees themselves that disgust him to the point of taking him out, but that they have made hypocrisy their habitual way of life.

In fact, the contrast is greater if we reread the thanks and kind appreciation that Paul dedicates to the Christians in Thessalonica. What happens to Jesus? Why does it get like this? We will have the whole week to contemplate their "outrage."

In these few lines Jesus calls them “blind” up to three times. It seems that is what best describes the heart of the hypocrite: he does not see and also does not know that he does not see. That is why there is no coherence in his life: his mind on the one hand, his values ​​on the other, his actions on the other ... And so he drags those who are carried away by him. Is there a greater nonsense than being blind and wanting to guide others?

And his indignation raises another question within me: what is indignant to me? What things or people drive me crazy? … I will have to think about it more slowly… I sense that sometimes, in me (and in the Church) we are outraged by things that have little to do with the indignation of Jesus. Jesus cares much more about people than things (however sacred).

Deep down they are exposing where my heart is, what I value and what I relativize, why I am willing to "have problems" and with what I make "pacts" (no matter how holy) and I look the other way, while so many continue to be guided by foolish and blind guides.

"Father, give me a heart like Jesus', full of love and mercy." Amen
