En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “No hay árbol bueno que produzca frutos malos, ni árbol malo que produzca frutos buenos. Cada árbol se conoce por sus frutos. No se recogen higos de las zarzas, ni se cortan uvas de los espinos.
El hombre bueno dice cosas buenas, porque el bien está en su corazón; y el hombre malo dice cosas malas, porque el mal está en su corazón, pues la boca habla de lo que está lleno el corazón.
¿Por qué me dicen ‘Señor, Señor’, y no hacen lo que yo les digo? Les voy a decir a quién se parece el que viene a mí y escucha mis palabras y las pone en práctica. Se parece a un hombre, que al construir su casa, hizo una excavación profunda, para echar los cimientos sobre la roca. Vino la creciente y chocó el río contra aquella casa, pero no la pudo derribar, porque estaba sólidamente construida.
Pero el que no pone en práctica lo que escucha, se parece a un hombre que construyó su casa a flor de tierra, sin cimientos. Chocó el río contra ella e inmediatamente la derribó y quedó completamente destruida’’.

Gospel
Jesus said to his disciples:
“A good tree does not bear rotten fruit,
nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit.
For every tree is known by its own fruit.
For people do not pick figs from thornbushes,
nor do they gather grapes from brambles.
A good person out of the store of goodness in his heart produces good,
but an evil person out of a store of evil produces evil;
for from the fullness of the heart the mouth speaks.
“Why do you call me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ but not do what I command?
I will show you what someone is like who comes to me,
listens to my words, and acts on them.
That one is like a man building a house,
who dug deeply and laid the foundation on rock;
when the flood came, the river burst against that house
but could not shake it because it had been well built.
But the one who listens and does not act
is like a person who built a house on the ground
without a foundation.
When the river burst against it,
it collapsed at once and was completely destroyed.”

Meditacion:
El viejo refrán que dice “dime con quién andas y te diré quién eres” contiene la verdad del Evangelio. De hecho, la lectura de hoy que habla de árboles frutales dice algo bastante similar. El lugar y la forma en que tú estés plantado indica la forma en que crecerás y la clase y la calidad del fruto que darás, aunque es cierto que todos recibimos el apoyo de amigos y compañeros, cuya influencia se revela en nuestras acciones. El tipo de personas a las que acudas para ayudarte a tomar decisiones evidencia la visión que tienes de la vida.
Podemos aplicar este principio a la vida familiar también. Más que nadie, los padres son quienes más influyen en el desarrollo de sus hijos. El hogar que han construido es la “tierra” en la que sus hijos echarán raíces, la tierra que determinará en mayor grado la clase de fruto que ellos darán.
Es lógico entonces, que el fruto que den los padres que están enraizados en Cristo sea el de hijos seguros de sí mismos y dóciles a la obra del Señor. Así que la pregunta que hay que hacerse es, “¿en qué tipo de tierra estoy plantando a mis hijos?”
La respuesta no necesita ser grandiosa. A veces, las cosas más sencillas son las que generan el impacto más grande. Permite que tus hijos te vean rezando, háblales ocasionalmente sobre tu relación con el Señor Jesús. A través de tus acciones, enséñales que el perdón es el camino a la plenitud y a la paz, incluso algo tan simple como decir “te perdono” en lugar de “está bien” puede generar un gran impacto.
Recuerda, el objetivo es que tus hijos encuentren su seguridad y sustento en el Señor y eso sucede cuando les provees el ambiente apropiado. Cuando su mundo se expanda más allá de la familia, tus hijos buscarán fuentes que los continúen nutriendo para hacer crecer en ellos lo que tú iniciaste. Es posible que prueben otros caminos, pues el Señor les da esa libertad, pero tú ten la seguridad de que ellos siempre sabrán qué es lo que produce la seguridad y la paz que anhelan. Ten la seguridad de que tus esfuerzos para formarlos y evangelizarlos estará con ellos donde sea que vayan.
“Padre, no siempre encuentro la forma de mantenerte presente en mi familia, confío en que tú me muestres el camino.” Amen

The old saying "tell me who you hang out with and I'll tell you who you are" contains the truth of the Gospel. In fact, today's reading about fruit trees says something quite similar. The place and the way in which you are planted indicates the way in which you will grow and the kind and quality of the fruit you will bear, although it is true that we all receive the support of friends and colleagues, whose influence is revealed in our actions. The type of people you go to to help you make decisions is evidence of your vision of life.
We can apply this principle to family life as well. More than anyone, parents are the most influential in their children's development. The home they have built is the “land” in which their children will take root, the land that will most determine the kind of fruit they will bear.
It is logical then, that the fruit that parents who are rooted in Christ bear is that of children who are sure of themselves and docile to the work of the Lord. So the question to ask yourself is, "What kind of soil am I planting my children in?"
The answer need not be great. Sometimes it's the simplest things that make the biggest impact. Let your children see you praying, talk to them occasionally about your relationship with the Lord Jesus. Through your actions, teach them that forgiveness is the way to wholeness and peace, even something as simple as saying “I forgive you” instead of “it's okay” can have a great impact.
Remember, the goal is for your children to find their safety and sustenance in the Lord and that happens when you provide the appropriate environment. When their world expands beyond the family, your children will seek sources that continue to nurture them in order to make what you started grow in them. They may try other ways, for the Lord gives them that freedom, but rest assured that they will always know what produces the security and peace they long for. Rest assured that your efforts to train and evangelize them will be with them wherever they go.
"Father, I don't always find a way to stay present in my family, I trust that you will show me the way." Amen
