Lk 4, 31-37

En aquel tiempo, Jesús fue a Cafarnaúm, ciudad de Galilea, y los sábados enseñaba a la gente. Todos estaban asombrados de sus enseñanzas, porque hablaba con autoridad.

Había en la sinagoga un hombre que tenía un demonio inmundo y se puso a gritar muy fuerte: “¡Déjanos! ¿Por qué te metes con nosotros, Jesús nazareno? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Sé que tú eres el Santo de Dios”.

Pero Jesús le ordenó: “Cállate y sal de ese hombre”. Entonces el demonio tiró al hombre por tierra, en medio de la gente, y salió de él sin hacerle daño. Todos se espantaron y se decían unos a otros: “¿Qué tendrá su palabra? Porque da órdenes con autoridad y fuerza a los espíritus inmundos y éstos se salen”. Y su fama se extendió por todos los lugares de la región.

Gospel

LK 4:31-37

Jesus went down to Capernaum, a town of Galilee.
He taught them on the sabbath,
and they were astonished at his teaching
because he spoke with authority.
In the synagogue there was a man with the spirit of an unclean demon, 
and he cried out in a loud voice,
“What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth?
Have you come to destroy us?
I know who you are–the Holy One of God!”
Jesus rebuked him and said, “Be quiet! Come out of him!”
Then the demon threw the man down in front of them
and came out of him without doing him any harm.
They were all amazed and said to one another,
“What is there about his word?
For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits,
and they come out.”
And news of him spread everywhere in the surrounding region.

Meditacion:

Si hay algo que se usa mal en nuestro mundo, es la autoridad. Por la sencilla razón de que los que la tienen la usan a veces, consciente o inconscientemente, más en su propio beneficio que en beneficio del interés común, de todos. Y, además, cuando dan explicaciones, si es que las dan, siempre revisten sus actos de buenas intenciones, de justificaciones. Son capaces de dar la vuelta a los hechos para justificarse y decir que ellos actúan bien y con buena intención. No vamos a poner ejemplos porque en el campo de las relaciones humanas esto pasa con demasiada frecuencia. Piensen en la empresa, la política, el sindicato, la familia y hasta los grupos de amigos. Seguro que pueden contar muchas historias sobre el tema. 

Aquella gente que veía a Jesús hacer aquellas cosas ya había visto a muchas personas con autoridad. Quizá lo que les sorprendió no fue ver a uno más que tuviese autoridad sino ver a uno que ponía de verdad su autoridad al servicio del bien de todos y en concreto al servicio de aquel pobre hombre dominado por un espíritu inmundo. Ahí estaba la razón de su sorpresa. ¡Jesús no usaba su autoridad para su propio beneficio y bienestar! Eso era lo nuevo. 

Es posible que nosotros no tengamos autoridad para expulsar demonios. Pero seguro que tenemos algún tipo de autoridad en nuestras vidas. Si eres padre o madre de familia porque tienes hijos o hijas. Si tienes una empresa porque tienes empleados. Si eres político de cualquier nivel porque la política es poder. Incluso es posible que dentro del grupo de amigos o amigas tengas poder y tus palabras sean escuchadas por los demás del grupo. 

Hoy el Evangelio nos invita a usar nuestra autoridad, la que sea y al nivel que sea, siempre al servicio del bien común y sobre todo de los más necesitados. De los enfermos, de los que sufren, de los que les ha tocado la peor parte, de los que no tienen ninguna autoridad. Eso es hacer Reino de Dios. Un ejemplo sencillo. En el grupo de amigos siempre está ése o ésa del que todos se ríen, del que todos hacen mofa y se burlan. Alguien tiene que parar una historia en la que se está abusando de una persona. Y quizá eres tú el que lo puedes hacer. Ahora pasa el ejemplo a otros ámbitos. 

Y, por cierto, mira muy bien cómo justificas tus acciones. No vaya a ser que ocultes tu propio interés y beneficio bajo capa de otras razones más “aceptables”.

“Amado Señor, haz que tu palabra penetre hasta lo más profundo de mi alma y me guíe por el camino de la salvación.” Amen

If there is one thing that is misused in our world, it is authority. For the simple reason that those who have it sometimes use it, consciously or unconsciously, more for their own benefit than for the common interest of all. And, furthermore, when they give explanations, if they do, they always cover their acts with good intentions, with justifications. They are able to turn the tables to justify themselves and say that they act well and with good intention. We are not going to give examples because in the field of human relations this happens too often. Think about the company, politics, union, family, and even groups of friends. Sure they can tell many stories on the subject.

Those people who saw Jesus do those things had already seen many people in authority. Perhaps what surprised them was not to see one more who had authority but to see one who truly put his authority at the service of the good of all and specifically at the service of that poor man dominated by an unclean spirit. That was the reason for his surprise. Jesus was not using his authority for his own benefit and welfare! That was the new.

We may not have the authority to cast out demons. But we sure have some kind of authority in our lives. If you are a father or mother because you have sons or daughters. If you have a company because you have employees. If you are a politician of any level, because politics is power. It is even possible that within the group of friends you have power and your words are heard by others in the group.

Today the Gospel invites us to use our authority, whatever it may be and at whatever level, always at the service of the common good and above all of those most in need. Of the sick, of those who suffer, of those who have had the worst part, of those who have no authority. That is to do the Kingdom of God. A simple example. In the group of friends there is always the one that everyone laughs at, that everyone makes fun of and makes fun of. Someone has to stop a story in which a person is being abused. And maybe you are the one who can do it. Now pass the example to other areas.

And by the way, take a good look at how you justify your actions. Do not hide your own interest and benefit under the cloak of other more "acceptable" reasons.

"Dear Lord, let your word penetrate to the depths of my soul and guide me on the path of salvation." Amen
