Lc 4, 38-44

En aquel tiempo, Jesús salió de la sinagoga y entró en la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón estaba con fiebre muy alta y le pidieron a Jesús que hiciera algo por ella. Jesús, de pie junto a ella, mandó con energía a la fiebre, y la fiebre desapareció. Ella se levantó enseguida y se puso a servirles.

Al meterse el sol, todos los que tenían enfermos se los llevaron a Jesús y él, imponiendo las manos sobre cada uno, los fue curando de sus enfermedades. De muchos de ellos salían también demonios que gritaban: “¡Tú eres el Hijo de Dios!” Pero él les ordenaba enérgicamente que se callaran, porque sabían que él era el Mesías.

Al día siguiente se fue a un lugar solitario y la gente lo andaba buscando. Cuando lo encontraron, quisieron retenerlo, para que no se alejara de ellos; pero él les dijo: “También tengo que anunciarles el Reino de Dios a las otras ciudades, pues para eso he sido enviado”. Y se fue a predicar en las sinagogas de Judea

LK 4:38-44

After Jesus left the synagogue, he entered the house of Simon.
Simon’s mother-in-law was afflicted with a severe fever,
and they interceded with him about her.
He stood over her, rebuked the fever, and it left her.
She got up immediately and waited on them.

At sunset, all who had people sick with various diseases
brought them to him.
He laid his hands on each of them and cured them.
And demons also came out from many, shouting, “You are the Son of God.”
But he rebuked them and did not allow them to speak
because they knew that he was the Christ.

At daybreak, Jesus left and went to a deserted place.
The crowds went looking for him, and when they came to him,
they tried to prevent him from leaving them.
But he said to them, “To the other towns also
I must proclaim the good news of the Kingdom of God,
because for this purpose I have been sent.”
And he was preaching in the synagogues of Judea.

Meditacion:

Siempre me ha llamado la atención la actitud de la suegra de Pedro. Está en la cama con fiebres. Jesús la cura. Excelente!. Lo lógico habría sido montar una fiesta o descansar o irse a visitar a las amigas. Algo así. Pero lo que hace es otra cosa: se levanta y se pone a servirles, a Jesús y a los discípulos, que han llegado a su casa. La hospitalidad es lo primero. Y ella está para servir. 

La suegra de Pedro es todo un modelo de vida cristiana. De los que han venido para servir y no para ser servidos. Paremos por un momento a pensar cómo nos iría en la vida si todos nos colocásemos en esa posición: en la del que sirve. Podemos imaginar la vida de en familia, la vida en las empresas, en los partidos políticos, en los grupos de amigos. ¿A que sería diferente? 

La vida de comunidad es como un carro que llevamos entre todos. Era posible que en algún momento uno de los miembros de la comunidad se suba al carro por la razón que fuese (enfermedad, debilidad, cansancio...). No importaba los demás siguen tirando y, aunque con un poco más de dificultad, el carro seguiría adelante. Para los que tiran la dificultad va en aumento a medida que son más los que se suben al carro y son menos los que tiran. El momento imposible es cuando todos o la mayoría deciden subirse al carro. En ese momento ya no se avanza más. Incluso se retrocede en el caso de que el carro estuviese subiendo una cuesta. Más complicado todavía es si los que tiran no están unidos y cada uno tira para un lado. 

Conclusión: vivir el evangelio implica siempre una actitud de servicio. Y un cierto grado de consenso o unidad para tirar todos en la misma dirección. Si empezamos a hacer partidos y cada uno busca su propio interés el carro/comunidad no va para ninguna parte. Es lo que dice Pablo en la primera lectura, entre que unos eran de Pablo y otros de Apolo, el grupo de los corintios no iba para ningún lado. Que no se nos olvide que todos somos de Cristo, que todos estamos al servicio unos de otros y que los primeros de la comunidad son los más débiles. Con estos sencillos criterios, un poco de generosidad y algo de capacidad de sacrificio, seguro que nuestra comunidad termina siendo presencia del Reino para todos los que se acerquen a ella.

“Señor, quiero edificar tu reino junto a ti.” Amen

The attitude of Pedro's mother-in-law has always caught my attention. She's in bed with a fever. Jesus heals her. Excellent!. The logical thing would have been to have a party or rest or go visit friends. Something like that. But what he does is something else: he gets up and begins to serve Jesus and the disciples, who have arrived at his house. Hospitality comes first. And she is to serve.

Pedro's mother-in-law is a model of Christian life. Of those who have come to serve and not to be served. Let's stop for a moment to think about how life would go if we all placed ourselves in that position: the one who serves. We can imagine life as a family, life in companies, in political parties, in groups of friends. What would it be different from?

Community life is like a car that we all carry together. It was possible that at some point one of the community members would get on the bandwagon for whatever reason (illness, weakness, tiredness ...). It did not matter the others continue to pull and, although with a little more difficulty, the car would continue. For those who shoot, the difficulty increases as more jump on the bandwagon and fewer shooters. The impossible moment is when all or most decide to jump on the bandwagon. At that time there is no further progress. It even backs up if the car is going up a hill. Even more complicated is if those who shoot are not united and each one pulls to one side.

Conclusion: living the gospel always implies an attitude of service. And a certain degree of consensus or unity to pull everyone in the same direction. If we start making matches and each one looks for her own interest, the car / community is not going anywhere. This is what Paul says in the first reading, among which some were from Paul and others from Apollo, the group of Corinthians was not going anywhere. Let us not forget that we are all Christ's, that we are all at the service of one another and that the first in the community are the weakest. With these simple criteria, a bit of generosity and some capacity for sacrifice, surely our community ends up being the presence of the Kingdom for all who approach it.

"Lord, I want to build your kingdom with you." Amen
