Lc 11, 15-26

En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús expulsó a un demonio, algunos dijeron: “Éste expulsa a los demonios con el poder de Satanás, el príncipe de los demonios”. Otros, para ponerlo a prueba, le pedían una señal milagrosa.

Pero Jesús, que conocía sus malas intenciones, les dijo: ‘’Todo reino dividido por luchas internas va a la ruina y se derrumba casa por casa. Si Satanás también está dividido contra sí mismo, ¿cómo mantendrá su reino? Ustedes dicen que yo arrojo a los demonios con el poder de Satanás. Entonces, ¿con el poder de quién los arrojan los hijos de ustedes? Por eso, ellos mismos serán sus jueces. Pero si yo arrojo a los demonios por el poder de Dios, eso significa que ha llegado a ustedes el Reino de Dios.

Cuando un hombre fuerte y bien armado guarda su palacio, sus bienes están seguros; pero si otro más fuerte lo asalta y lo vence, entonces le quita las armas en que confiaba y después dispone de sus bienes. El que no está conmigo, está contra mí; y el que no recoge conmigo, desparrama.

Cuando el espíritu inmundo sale de un hombre, anda vagando por lugares áridos, en busca de reposo, y al no hallarlo, dice: ‘Volveré a mi casa, de donde salí’. Y al llegar, la encuentra barrida y arreglada. Entonces va por otros siete espíritus peores que él y vienen a instalarse allí, y así la situación final de aquel hombre resulta peor que la de antes”.

LK 11:15-26

When Jesus had driven out a demon, some of the crowd said:
“By the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons,
he drives out demons.”
Others, to test him, asked him for a sign from heaven.
But he knew their thoughts and said to them,
“Every kingdom divided against itself will be laid waste
and house will fall against house.
And if Satan is divided against himself, how will his kingdom stand?
For you say that it is by Beelzebul that I drive out demons.
If I, then, drive out demons by Beelzebul,
by whom do your own people drive them out?
Therefore they will be your judges.
But if it is by the finger of God that I drive out demons,
then the Kingdom of God has come upon you.
When a strong man fully armed guards his palace,
his possessions are safe.
But when one stronger than he attacks and overcomes him,
he takes away the armor on which he relied
and distributes the spoils.
Whoever is not with me is against me,
and whoever does not gather with me scatters.

“When an unclean spirit goes out of someone,
it roams through arid regions searching for rest
but, finding none, it says,
‘I shall return to my home from which I came.’
But upon returning, it finds it swept clean and put in order.
Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits
more wicked than itself who move in and dwell there,
and the last condition of that man is worse than the first.”

Meditacion:

Todos lo hemos experimentado: la frustración de un pecado persistente o las influencias de una relación difícil. Cuando pensamos que lo tenemos todo bajo control, surge una tentación más fuerte o tenemos una conversación que nos provoca un disgusto, y nos sentimos como si volviéramos a donde empezamos. Pero esto no es accidental, así es como actúa el diablo.

¿Necesitamos más pruebas de que el enemigo nunca descansa? Satanás es incansable; nunca deja de acosarnos y de intentar hacernos tropezar; nunca desiste de su intento de regresar a su antiguo hogar: las debilidades de carácter que tenemos, el pecado habitual, las heridas causadas por amistades deshechas.

Esa es la razón por la cual el Señor Jesús nos advierte que no nos contentemos solo con que nuestra casa esté “barrida y arreglada” (Lucas 11, 25). Sí, el Bautismo nos lava el pecado original y la Confesión nos limpia de nuevo cuando hemos pecado; pero, ¿qué sucede entre una y otra confesión? Por lo incansable que es, el diablo siempre está buscando puertas abiertas para volver a entrar y acosarnos; siempre está buscando nuevas oportunidades para tentarnos y alejarnos del Señor.

Por esto es que San Pedro nos insta: “Sean prudentes y manténganse despiertos”, él sabe que el enemigo, el diablo, “como un león rugiente, anda buscando a quien devorar” (1 Pedro 5, 8). ¿Cómo podemos mantenernos despiertos? Podemos hacerlo poniendo atención a los pensamientos que surgen en nuestro interior. Si algo nos lleva a ser prejuiciosos o criticones, licenciosos o resentidos, podemos estar seguros de que eso viene del enemigo.

¿Cómo podemos enfrentar estas tácticas del diablo? Siguiendo el ejemplo de San Pablo: revistiéndonos con la “armadura de Dios”, especialmente el “escudo” de la fe y la “espada” de la Palabra de Dios que leemos en la Escritura (Efesios 6, 11).

Todas estas acciones del diablo pueden infundirnos temor, pero ¡ánimo!, porque Dios no nos deja indefensos. Él nos ha dado todas las herramientas y toda la armadura que necesitamos para proteger la “casa” de nuestro corazón.

El demonio nunca descansa, pero asegúrate de no convertirte en blanco fácil.

“Padre, ayúdame a estar vigilante contra las artimañas del demonio; pongo mi vida en tus manos.” Amen

We've all experienced it: the frustration of persistent sin or the influences of a difficult relationship. When we think we have it all under control, a stronger temptation arises or we have an upsetting conversation, and we feel like we are back to where we started. But this is not accidental, this is how the devil works.

Do we need more proof that the enemy never rests? Satan is tireless; He never stops harassing us and trying to trip us up; He never gives up trying to return to his old home: the character weaknesses we have, the habitual sin, the hurts caused by broken friendships.

That is the reason why the Lord Jesus warns us not to be content just with our house being “swept and tidied up” (Luke 11:25). Yes, Baptism washes away original sin and Confession cleanses us again when we have sinned; but what happens between one confession and another? As tireless as he is, the devil is always looking for open doors to come back in and harass us; He is always looking for new opportunities to tempt us away from the Lord.

This is why Saint Peter urges us: "Be prudent and stay awake", he knows that the enemy, the devil, "is looking for someone to devour like a roaring lion" (1 Peter 5: 8). How can we stay awake? We can do this by paying attention to the thoughts that arise within us. If something leads us to be judgmental or critical, licentious or resentful, we can be sure that it comes from the enemy.

How can we face these tactics of the devil? Following the example of Saint Paul: putting on the “armor of God”, especially the “shield” of faith and the “sword” of the Word of God that we read in Scripture (Ephesians 6, 11).

All these actions of the devil can scare us, but take heart! God does not leave us defenseless. He has given us all the tools and all the armor we need to protect the "house" of our heart.

The devil never rests, but make sure you don't become an easy target.
