Tiempo de vivir

Lc 12, 54-59

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a la multitud: “Cuando ustedes ven que una nube se va levantando por el poniente, enseguida dicen que va a llover, y en efecto, llueve. Cuando el viento sopla del sur, dicen que hará calor, y así sucede. ¡Hipócritas! Si saben interpretar el aspecto que tienen el cielo y la tierra, ¿por qué no interpretan entonces los signos del tiempo presente? ¿Por qué, pues, no juzgan por ustedes mismos lo que les conviene hacer ahora?

Cuando vayas con tu adversario a presentarte ante la autoridad, haz todo lo posible por llegar a un acuerdo con él en el camino, para que no te lleve ante el juez, el juez te entregue a la policía, y la policía te meta en la cárcel. Yo te aseguro que no saldrás de ahí hasta que pagues el último centavo’’.

LK 12:54-59

Jesus said to the crowds,
“When you see a cloud rising in the west
you say immediately that it is going to rain–and so it does;
and when you notice that the wind is blowing from the south
you say that it is going to be hot–and so it is.
You hypocrites!
You know how to interpret the appearance of the earth and the sky;
why do you not know how to interpret the present time?

“Why do you not judge for yourselves what is right?
If you are to go with your opponent before a magistrate,
make an effort to settle the matter on the way;
otherwise your opponent will turn you over to the judge,
and the judge hand you over to the constable,
and the constable throw you into prison.
I say to you, you will not be released
until you have paid the last penny.”

Meditacion:

Jesús se queja de que sus contemporáneos saben interpretar muy bien el tiempo atmosférico, pero no son capaces de descubrir los signos del Reino en medio del tiempo histórico que viven: tienen al Mesías que les comunica la buena nueva y realiza signos, pero están cerrados y siguen esperándolo como si no estuviese ya entre ellos.

No son capaces de acoger el tiempo de gracia y de reconciliación que les ofrece mientras van de camino. Nos puede pasar la mismo a nosotros; es verdad que, por vivir en la ciudad, puede que ya no seamos tan expertos en escudriñar las señales atmosféricas, pero sí sabemos informarnos de ellas muy bien a través de los medios modernos. Somos expertos en muchas otras cosas, como en las tablas de resultados deportivos, en las novedades literarias y musicales y, sobre todo, en el avance de las nuevas tecnologías, pero quizá sólo estamos acumulando información o esclavizándonos de las técnicas. A lo mejor tampoco nosotros estamos leyendo con profundidad de fe el sentido del momento histórico que vivimos.

Todo lo que está sucediendo a nivel mundial por esta pandemia ha cambiado radicalmente nuestras vidas ¿De qué es signo? ¿Cómo leemos este duro y convulsionado momento que nos toca vivir? ¿Bastará con decir que se trata de una crisis mundial que ya pasará, como han pasado otras? ¿No será una llamada a pensar a fondo en las causas que nos han traído hasta este punto? Para un cristiano no basta con pensar que este fuerte chaparrón ya pasará y que mientras tanto sólo debe protegerse de la mejor manera posible, necesita leer este “kayros” histórico en clave de fe: escuchar al Señor que nos vuelve a recordar las bienaventuranzas y nos enseña a vivir de otro modo: una vida pobre que renuncia a los excesos y que cuida de los demás, y sabe de austeridad, esfuerzo, solidaridad, respeto, transparencia y creatividad. Llama la atención el papel que Cáritas y otras organizaciones eclesiales está teniendo en este momento social; los cristianos no podemos quedarnos quietos ante el sufrimiento de tantos hermanos, es un signo que nos invita a descubrir las llamadas actuales de Jesús. En realidad, la historia social y nuestras propias historias están cargadas de muchos signos claros de la presencia del Reino, que nos invitan a despertar y a comprometernos.

Jesus complains that his contemporaries know how to interpret the weather very well, but they are not capable of discovering the signs of the Kingdom in the midst of the historical time that they live: they have the Messiah who communicates the good news and performs signs, but they are closed and they continue to wait for him as if he were no longer among them.

They are not capable of welcoming the time of grace and reconciliation that it offers them while they are on the road. The same can happen to us; It is true that, by living in the city, we may no longer be so adept at scrutinizing atmospheric signs, but we do know how to inform ourselves of them very well through modern media. We are experts in many other things, such as sports scores tables, literary and musical novelties and, above all, in the advancement of new technologies, but perhaps we are only accumulating information or enslaving ourselves to techniques. Perhaps we are not reading with depth of faith the meaning of the historical moment that we are living.

Everything that is happening worldwide due to this pandemic has radically changed our lives. What is it a sign of? How do we read this hard and convulsed moment that we have to live? Will it suffice to say that this is a global crisis that will pass, as others have? Is it not a call to think deeply about the causes that have brought us to this point? For a Christian it is not enough to think that this heavy downpour will pass and that in the meantime he should only protect himself in the best possible way. it teaches how to live in a different way: a poor life that renounces excesses and takes care of others, and knows austerity, effort, solidarity, respect, transparency and creativity. The role that Caritas and other ecclesial organizations are playing in this social moment is striking; Christians cannot remain still in the face of the suffering of so many brothers and sisters, it is a sign that invites us to discover the current calls of Jesus. In reality, social history and our own stories are loaded with many clear signs of the presence of the Kingdom, which invite us to wake up and commit ourselves.
