Lc 21,20-28

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Cuando vean a Jerusalén sitiada por un ejército, sepan que se aproxima su destrucción. Entonces, los que estén en Judea, que huyan a los montes; los que estén en la ciudad, que se alejen de ella; los que estén en el campo, que no vuelvan a la ciudad; porque esos días serán de castigo para que se cumpla todo lo que está escrito.

¡Pobres de las que estén embarazadas y de las que estén criando en aquellos días! Porque vendrá una gran calamidad sobre el país y el castigo de Dios se descargará contra este pueblo. Caerán al filo de la espada, serán llevados cautivos a todas las naciones y Jerusalén será pisoteada por los paganos, hasta que se cumpla el plazo que Dios les ha señalado.

Habrá señales prodigiosas en el sol, en la luna y en las estrellas. En la tierra las naciones se llenarán de angustia y de miedo por el estruendo de las olas del mar; la gente se morirá de terror y de angustiosa espera por las cosas que vendrán sobre el mundo, pues hasta las estrellas se bambolearán. Entonces verán venir al Hijo del hombre en una nube, con gran poder y majestad. Cuando estas cosas comiencen a suceder, pongan atención y levanten la cabeza, porque se acerca la hora de su liberación’’.

LK 21:20-28

Jesus said to his disciples:
“When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies,
know that its desolation is at hand.
Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains.
Let those within the city escape from it,
and let those in the countryside not enter the city,
for these days are the time of punishment
when all the Scriptures are fulfilled.
Woe to pregnant women and nursing mothers in those days,
for a terrible calamity will come upon the earth
and a wrathful judgment upon this people.
They will fall by the edge of the sword
and be taken as captives to all the Gentiles;
and Jerusalem will be trampled underfoot by the Gentiles
until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled.

"There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars,
and on earth nations will be in dismay,
perplexed by the roaring of the sea and the waves.
People will die of fright
in anticipation of what is coming upon the world,
for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
And then they will see the Son of Man
coming in a cloud with power and great glory.
But when these signs begin to happen,
stand erect and raise your heads
because your redemption is at hand.”

Meditacion:

Jesús hoy se lamenta por lo que le sucederá a la ciudad de Jerusalén. Está profetizando lo que luego sucedió en el año 70, la destrucción por parte del ejército romano comandado por Tito. A diferencia de la lamentación del Apocalipsis en la que los poderosos lloran porque se les acaba su privilegio, la lamentación de Jesús es porque el pueblo ha sido sordo a su voz.

Por supuesto la destrucción del Templo y de la ciudad fue un hecho histórico, pero el lamento de Jesús se extiende a todas aquellas situaciones en las que el mal con todos sus rostros, la terquedad de corazón, la injusticia y el sufrimiento de los inocentes producen un dolor inconcebible. Es una buena ocasión para orar hoy por todas las situaciones de tantos hombres, mujeres y niños que sufren el mal, la injusticia, la violencia, la pobreza y la exclusión principalmente en estos tiempos del Covid. Por todos aquellos que son destruidos de múltiples y viles formas. Volvemos a recordar que el mal no tendrá la última palabra. La última palabra la tiene Dios, su Reino; nos lo recuerda Jesús: “levantaos, alzad la cabeza, se acerca vuestra liberación”.

El que se lamenta ya no tiene tiempo, llega tarde. Nosotros no queremos arrepentirnos porque no hicimos las cosas a su debido tiempo. Queremos tener la sensación del que llega a tiempo para tomar las riendas de su vida. El Adviento que comenzamos   nos invita a ello. No debemos dormirnos, el tiempo pasa. ¡Que no nos sorprenda desprevenidos! Amen

Jesus today mourns what will happen to the city of Jerusalem. He is prophesying what then happened in AD 70, the destruction by the Roman army commanded by Titus. Unlike the lamentation of the Apocalypse in which the powerful cry because their privilege runs out, the lamentation of Jesus is because the people have been deaf to his voice.

Of course the destruction of the Temple and the city was a historical event, but the lament of Jesus extends to all those situations in which evil with all its faces, stubbornness of heart, injustice and the suffering of the innocent produce an inconceivable pain. It is a good occasion to pray today for all the situations of so many men, women and children who suffer evil, injustice, violence, poverty and exclusion, especially in these times of Covid. For all those who are destroyed in many vile ways. We remember again that evil will not have the last word. The last word is God, his Kingdom; Jesus reminds us: "arise, lift up your heads, your liberation is near."

He who laments no longer has time, he is late. We do not want to regret it because we did not do things in due time. We want to have the feeling that you arrive in time to take charge of your life. The Advent that we begin invites us to do so. We must not fall asleep, time passes. Let us not be caught off guard! Amen
