Lc 21, 12-19

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Los perseguirán y los apresarán, los llevarán a los tribunales y a la cárcel, y los harán comparecer ante reyes y gobernantes por causa mía. Con esto ustedes darán testimonio de mí.

Grábense bien que no tienen que preparar de antemano su defensa, porque yo les daré palabras sabias, a las que no podrá resistir ni contradecir ningún adversario de ustedes.

Los traicionarán hasta sus padres y hermanos, sus parientes y amigos. Matarán a algunos de ustedes, y todos los odiarán por causa mía. Sin embargo, ni un cabello de su cabeza perecerá. Si se mantienen firmes, conseguirán la vida’’.

LK 21:12-19

Jesus said to the crowd:
“They will seize and persecute you,
they will hand you over to the synagogues and to prisons,
and they will have you led before kings and governors
because of my name.
It will lead to your giving testimony.
Remember, you are not to prepare your defense beforehand,
for I myself shall give you a wisdom in speaking
that all your adversaries will be powerless to resist or refute.
You will even be handed over by parents,
brothers, relatives, and friends,
and they will put some of you to death.
You will be hated by all because of my name,
but not a hair on your head will be destroyed.
By your perseverance you will secure your lives.”

Meditacion:

Si has visto una película sobre un caso judicial sabes que no se puede entrar en una corte sin un caso bien fundamentado. No solo debes conocer tu lado de la historia, sino que debes investigar hasta el último detalle de la contraparte. Un abogado ni siquiera debería hacer una pregunta sin saber la respuesta de antemano. Sin embargo, en el pasaje de hoy, Jesús le dice a sus discípulos que hagan las cosas de una manera distinta. Les dijo que cuando los llevaran ante las autoridades por predicar el Evangelio, no se preocuparan por defenderse. Más bien, debían confiar en que él les daría las palabras de sabiduría que iban a necesitar.

Suena difícil, ¿verdad? Simplemente no es natural que nos relajemos en una situación de alto riesgo como esta. Sucede más bien lo opuesto: los músculos se tensan, la respiración se agita, el pulso cardíaco se eleva y la mente corre a miles de kilómetros por hora. Pero ahí está Jesús, diciéndonos que no nos preocupemos.

Este no es el único momento en la Escritura en que Jesús nos reta con algo que va en contra de los instintos. Por ejemplo, en vez de aferrarnos a las posesiones materiales, nos dice que demos a todo aquel que nos pida algo. En vez de tomar represalias, debemos poner la otra mejilla. El Señor quiere una cultura que exalte al pobre y al marginado, porque ellos son los verdaderos herederos del Reino de los cielos. Una y otra vez le da vuelta a todo lo que creemos que sabemos sobre la vida en este mundo.

Te invito a que hoy procures interiorizar estas palabras, aun cuando impliquen ir en contra de tus instintos naturales. Si alguien se te atraviesa en la carretera, bendice a esa persona. Si estás luchando con un problema que parece no terminar, decide no preocuparte. En vez, haz una lista de todas las cosas por las cuales estás agradecido. ¿Quién sabe? Tal vez el Señor te dé una nueva visión de las cosas cuando le agradezcas por lo que tienes.

Jesús no desea abandonarte a una vida de estrés y ansiedad, él anhela que lo invites a hacerse presente en cada situación, especialmente en las difíciles. Así que, ¡relájate!, él tiene suficiente sabiduría para ayudarte.

“Señor, confío en ti, te entrego mi ansiedad. Te suplico que me enseñes a confiar en ti más profundamente.” Amen

If you've seen a movie about a court case, you know that you can't go into court without a well-founded case. Not only must you know your side of the story, but you must investigate every last detail of the counterpart. An attorney shouldn't even ask a question without knowing the answer beforehand. However, in today's passage, Jesus tells his disciples to do things in a different way. He told them that when they were brought before the authorities for preaching the gospel, not to worry about defending themselves. Rather, they were to trust that he would give them the words of wisdom they would need.

Sounds difficult, right? It's just not natural for us to relax in a high-risk situation like this. Rather, the opposite is true: the muscles tense, the breath jerks, the heart rate rises, and the mind races thousands of miles per hour. But there is Jesus, telling us not to worry.

This is not the only time in Scripture when Jesus challenges us with something that goes against our instincts. For example, instead of holding on to material possessions, he tells us to give to anyone who asks for something. Instead of retaliating, we must turn the other cheek. The Lord wants a culture that exalts the poor and the marginalized, because they are the true heirs of the Kingdom of heaven. Over and over again he turns everything we think we know about life in this world upside down.

I invite you to try to internalize these words today, even when they imply going against your natural instincts. If someone crosses you on the road, bless that person. If you are struggling with a problem that doesn't seem to end, decide not to worry. Instead, make a list of all the things you are grateful for. Who knows? Perhaps the Lord will give you a new vision of things when you thank Him for what you have.

Jesus does not want to abandon you to a life of stress and anxiety, he longs for you to invite him to be present in every situation, especially in difficult ones. So relax! He has enough wisdom to help you.

“Lord, I trust you, I give you my anxiety. I beg you to teach me to trust you more deeply. " Amen
