La higuera

Lc 21, 29-33

En aquel tiempo, Jesús propuso a sus discípulos esta comparación: “Fíjense en la higuera y en los demás árboles. Cuando ven que empiezan a dar fruto, saben que ya está cerca el verano. Así también, cuando vean que suceden las cosas que les he dicho, sepan que el Reino de Dios está cerca. Yo les aseguro que antes de que esta generación muera, todo esto se cumplirá. Podrán dejar de existir el cielo y la tierra, pero mis palabras no dejarán de cumplirse”.

LK 21:29-33

Jesus told his disciples a parable.
“Consider the fig tree and all the other trees.
When their buds burst open,
you see for yourselves and know that summer is now near;
in the same way, when you see these things happening,
know that the Kingdom of God is near.
Amen, I say to you, this generation will not pass away
until all these things have taken place.
Heaven and earth will pass away, 
but my words will not pass away.

Meditacion:

Muchas cosas en este mundo traen una fecha de vencimiento. Las membrecías, las garantías y las suscripciones a las revistas, los productos, incluso los cupones de las tiendas y de regalos se vencen eventualmente. Las modas y las leyes se vuelven obsoletas; también las estrellas y los planetas mueren. Por supuesto, después de su tiempo marcado en la tierra, todas las criaturas vivas mueren también.

Pero a pesar de que nuestro cuerpo es mortal, algo en nosotros vive para siempre. ¡Eso es porque Dios nos ha creado para la vida eterna! Y debido a que él es un Dios de amor, nos da maneras para empezar a probar y crecer en su vida ahora encontrándonos con él diariamente. Esto lo hacemos cuando reflexionamos y rezamos con la Escritura, la palabra inspirada por Dios, la cual “no dejará de cumplirse” (Lucas 21, 33).

¡Es una realidad sorprendente! Como lo explicaron los Padres del Concilio Vaticano II: “En los sagrados libros el Padre que está en los cielos se dirige con amor a sus hijos y habla con ellos” (Dei Verbum, 21). Y San Bernardo, hablando desde su propia experiencia, dijo que cualquiera que medita con interés en la Escritura sabe “que ciertamente encontrará a Aquel de quien tiene sed.” Cuando leemos la Escritura, podemos estar seguro de que el Dios que nos creó para conocerlo y amarlo está con nosotros, listo para convertir su palabra en vida.

La Escritura puede asombrarnos con la magnitud y la profundidad del amor de Dios. Con una sola palabra de reproche, puede echar por tierra nuestro orgullo. Su Palabra puede enseñarnos verdades maravillosas, penetrar el corazón endurecido y suscitar plegarias inspiradas de alabanza y acción de gracias. Ella endereza el pensamiento torcido, abre tus ojos a Cristo y te ofrece lo que necesitas para enfrentar las pruebas y las dificultades con paz y alegría.

Hoy, abre tu Biblia, invoca al Espíritu Santo y escucha a Jesús hablarte. Recuerda que no importa cuántas veces leas un pasaje, este nunca dejará de cumplirse ni estará fuera de tiempo. Sin cambios, la palabra de Dios es nueva todos los días, siempre fresca, llena de vida y esperanza.

“Ven, Espíritu Santo y haz vivas las palabras de la Escritura en mi corazón.” Amen

Many things in this world have an expiration date. Memberships, warranties and subscriptions to magazines, products, even store and gift coupons eventually expire. Fashions and laws become obsolete; also stars and planets die. Of course, after your marked time on earth, all living creatures die as well.

But even though our body is mortal, something in us lives forever. That is because God has created us for eternal life! And because he is a God of love, he gives us ways to start testing and growing in his life now by meeting him daily. We do this when we reflect and pray with Scripture, the word inspired by God, which "will not cease to be fulfilled" (Luke 21:33).

It is a surprising reality! As the Fathers of the Second Vatican Council explained: “In the sacred books the Father who is in heaven addresses his children with love and talks with them” (Dei Verbum, 21). And St. Bernard, speaking from his own experience, said that anyone who meditates with interest on Scripture knows "that he will certainly find the One for whom he thirsts." When we read Scripture, we can be sure that the God who created us to know and love him is with us, ready to turn his word into life.

Scripture can amaze us with the magnitude and depth of God's love. With a single word of reproach, he can destroy our pride. His Word can teach us wonderful truths, penetrate the hardened heart, and stir up inspired prayers of praise and thanksgiving. She straightens crooked thinking, opens your eyes to Christ, and offers you what you need to face trials and difficulties with peace and joy.

Today, open your Bible, invoke the Holy Spirit and listen to Jesus speak to you. Remember that no matter how many times you read a passage, it will never be unfulfilled or out of time. Without changes, the word of God is new every day, always fresh, full of life and hope.

"Come Holy Spirit and make the words of Scripture alive in my heart." Amen
