Lc 1, 67-79

En aquel tiempo, Zacarías, padre de Juan, lleno del Espíritu Santo, profetizó diciendo:

“Bendito sea el Señor, Dios de Israel,
porque ha visitado y redimido a su pueblo,
y ha hecho surgir en favor nuestro
un poderoso salvador en la casa de David, su siervo.
Así lo había anunciado desde antiguo,
por boca de sus santos profetas:
que nos salvaría de nuestros enemigos
y de las manos de todos los que nos odian,
para mostrar su misericordia a nuestros padres,
acordándose de su santa alianza.

El Señor juró a nuestro padre Abraham
concedernos que, libres ya de nuestros enemigos,
lo sirvamos sin temor, en santidad y justicia
delante de él, todos los días de nuestra vida.

Y a ti, niño, te llamarán profeta del Altísimo,
porque irás delante del Señor a preparar sus caminos
y a anunciar a su pueblo la salvación,
mediante el perdón de los pecados.

Por la entrañable misericordia de nuestro Dios,
nos visitará el sol que nace de lo alto
para iluminar a los que viven en tinieblas y en sombras de muerte,
para guiar nuestros pasos por el camino de la paz’’

Gospel

LK 1:67-79

Zechariah his father, filled with the Holy Spirit, prophesied, saying:

“Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel;
for he has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty Savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hand of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight
all the days of our life.
You, my child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High,
for you will go before the Lord to prepare his way,
to give his people knowledge of salvation
by the forgiveness of their sins.
In the tender compassion of our God
the dawn from on high shall break upon us,
to shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death,
and to guide our feet into the way of peace.”

Meditacion:

De alguna manera, el Evangelio de hoy es el relato de un regalo anticipado de Navidad. Al recuperar el habla, Zacarías estalló en alabanzas a Dios por su misericordia y la llegada de su salvación. Pero justo en el medio de este cántico de alabanza, se volvió hacia Juan, su hijo recién nacido, y profetizó respecto a él: “Porque irás delante del Señor a preparar sus caminos” (Lucas 1, 76). Él habla del futuro de Juan y de la obra que realizará al preparar al pueblo de Dios para recibir al Mesías. Se podría decir que al hacer esto, Zacarías le dio a Juan el don de las palabras de Dios, trazó el futuro que esperaba a su hijo y habló de la forma en que Dios lo iba a bendecir y a guiar.

Hoy es la víspera de Navidad. Todos pueden sentir la emoción que se va generando, especialmente conforme los niños esperan con emoción el momento en que finalmente puedan abrir sus regalos. Pero, ¿qué tal, si mientras esperamos, decidimos hacer algo por aquellos que amamos que sea espejo de lo que Zacarías hizo por Juan? ¿Qué tal si, además de entregar los regalos tradicionales de Navidad, le diéramos a nuestros seres queridos el regalo de una palabra especial de parte de Dios?

Podría sonar intimidante: ¡Yo no soy un profeta! ¿Cómo puedo pretender decir que hablo en nombre de Dios? Pero, no te preocupes, lo que digas no tiene que ser grande ni espectacular. Simplemente pronuncia desde tu corazón las palabras que sientes que Dios quiere decirles a ellos.

¡Ni siquiera necesitas decir nada! Escribe una pequeña nota que los aliente y los anime. Recuérdales que ellos son hijos de Dios y que Dios los ama y desea profundamente bendecirlos. Señala uno o dos dones que crees que Dios les ha concedido, y anímalos a usar esos dones para edificar la Iglesia. Luego entrégales la nota el día de Navidad, o si colocan los zapatos o medias, desliza la nota dentro del zapato esta noche antes de irte a dormir.

Las palabras de aliento como estas pueden tener un impacto poderoso. ¿Quién sabe? ¡Tu nota podría despertar en ellos el deseo de dar un paso para acercarse más al Señor!

“Señor, te pido que me ayudes a bendecir a las personas que me rodean.”

In a way, today's Gospel is the account of an anticipated Christmas gift. As he regained his speech, Zacharias erupted in praise to God for his mercy and the coming of his salvation. But right in the middle of this song of praise, he turned to John, his newborn son, and prophesied about him: “For you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways” (Luke 1:76) . He speaks of John's future and the work he will do in preparing God's people to receive the Messiah. It could be said that by doing this, Zacharias gave John the gift of God's words, mapped out the future that awaited his son, and spoke of how God was going to bless and guide him.

Today is Christmas Eve. Everyone can feel the excitement building, especially as children look forward to the moment when they can finally open their presents. But what if while we wait, we decide to do something for those we love that is a mirror of what Zacharias did for John? What if, in addition to giving traditional Christmas gifts, we gave our loved ones the gift of a special word from God?

It might sound intimidating: I am not a prophet! How can I pretend to say that I speak for God? But don't worry, what you say doesn't have to be big or spectacular. Simply speak from your heart the words that you feel God wants to say to them.

You don't even need to say anything! Write a little note that encourages and encourages them. Remind them that they are God's children and that God loves them and deeply desires to bless them. Point out one or two gifts that you think God has given them, and encourage them to use those gifts to build the Church. Then give them the note on Christmas day, or if they put the shoes or stockings on, slip the note into the shoe tonight before going to sleep.

Words of encouragement like these can have a powerful impact. Who knows? Your note could awaken in them the desire to take a step closer to the Lord!
