Mc 3, 13-19

En aquel tiempo, Jesús subió al monte, llamó a los que él quiso, y ellos lo siguieron. Constituyó a doce para que se quedaran con él, para mandarlos a predicar y para que tuvieran el poder de expulsar a los demonios.

Constituyó entonces a los Doce: a Simón, al cual le impuso el nombre de Pedro; después, a Santiago y a Juan, hijos de Zebedeo, a quienes dio el nombre de Boanergues, es decir “hijos del trueno”; a Andrés, Felipe, Bartolomé, Mateo, Tomás, Santiago el de Alfeo, Tadeo, Simón el Cananeo y a Judas Iscariote, que después lo traicionó.

Mk 3:13-19

Jesus went up the mountain and summoned those whom he wanted 
and they came to him.
He appointed Twelve, whom he also named Apostles,
that they might be with him
and he might send them forth to preach 
and to have authority to drive out demons:
He appointed the Twelve:
Simon, whom he named Peter; 
James, son of Zebedee, 
and John the brother of James, whom he named Boanerges, 
that is, sons of thunder;
Andrew, Philip, Bartholomew,
Matthew, Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus; 
Thaddeus, Simon the Cananean,
and Judas Iscariot who betrayed him.

Meditacion:

Jesús apartó a sus discípulos de la multitud y escogió a doce de ellos para que fueran sus mensajeros especiales. Sin embargo, como lo describe San Marcos, Jesús no empezó dándoles toda clase de poderes y diciéndoles que fueran y trabajaran fuerte. Según Marcos, su primer llamado fue a simplemente “estar” con Jesús.

Esto no suena muy atractivo, ¿verdad? Los discípulos probablemente estaban acostumbrados a estar en el medio de la acción, viendo a las personas sanarse o ser liberadas; y sin embargo Jesús sabía que ellos no podrían mantener su ritmo, o experimentar paz, sin pasar un tiempo con él.

¿Alguna vez has sentido que el Señor te llama a simplemente “estar” con él? Tal vez necesitas simplificar tu horario y centrarte en las cosas importantes de la vida. Pero generalmente, viene en los cambios usuales de la vida. Tal vez experimentaste esto cuando tus hijos se fueron a estudiar a la universidad, o cuando renunciaste a un trabajo para pasar más tiempo junto a tu familia. O quizá sucedió cuando luchaste contra una larga enfermedad. De pronto, había mucho más espacio en tu agenda y mucha menos actividad. Estos cambios en la vida pueden ser difíciles por muchas razones, pero en el medio de ellos, puedes escuchar la tranquila voz de Dios, que te invita a pasar más tiempo junto a él.

Hoy podrías sentirte como se sintieron los discípulos cuando Jesús los apartó de toda actividad, tal vez algo dubitativo o reticente. Nos gusta estar ocupados y activos, pero recuerda que Jesús te está llamando a algo aún mejor, algo que te ayude a ser más eficaz cuando llegue el momento de servir nuevamente. Entonces escucha su llamada, y cuando llegue, simplemente di: “Señor, quiero estar junto a ti. Te suplico que me ayudes a acercarme más en este tiempo de quietud.”

“Señor, te ruego que me ayudes a estar a solas contigo.”

Jesus separated his disciples from the crowd and chose twelve of them to be his special messengers. However, as St. Mark describes it, Jesus did not begin by giving them all kinds of powers and telling them to go and work hard. According to Mark, his first call was to simply "be" with Jesus.

This doesn't sound very attractive, does it? The disciples were probably used to being in the middle of the action, watching people get healed or liberated; and yet Jesus knew that they could not keep up with him, or experience peace, without spending time with him.

Have you ever felt the Lord calling you to just "be" with him? Maybe you need to simplify your schedule and focus on the important things in life. But generally, it comes in the usual changes in life. Maybe you experienced this when your kids went to college, or when you quit a job to spend more time with your family. Or maybe it happened when you battled a long illness. Suddenly, there was a lot more space in your schedule and a lot less activity. These life changes can be difficult for many reasons, but in the midst of them, you can hear the calm voice of God, inviting you to spend more time with him.

Today you might feel how the disciples felt when Jesus turned them away from all activity, perhaps somewhat hesitant or reticent. We like to be busy and active, but remember that Jesus is calling you to something even better, something that will help you be more effective when it comes time to serve again. Then hear his call, and when it comes, just say, “Lord, I want to be with you. I beg you to help me draw closer in this quiet time. "
