Mc 16, 15-18

En aquel tiempo, se apareció Jesús a los Once y les dijo: “Vayan por todo el mundo y prediquen el Evangelio a toda creatura. El que crea y se bautice, se salvará; el que se resista a creer, será condenado. Éstos son los milagros que acompañarán a los que hayan creído: Arrojarán demonios en mi nombre, hablarán lenguas nuevas, cogerán serpientes en sus manos, y si beben un veneno mortal, no les hará daño; impondrán las manos a los enfermos y éstos quedarán sanos”.

Mk 16:15-18

Jesus appeared to the Eleven and said to them:
“Go into the whole world
and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved;
whoever does not believe will be condemned.
These signs will accompany those who believe:
in my name they will drive out demons,
they will speak new languages.
They will pick up serpents with their hands,
and if they drink any deadly thing, it will not harm them.
They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover.”

Meditacion:

Este lunes, coincidiendo con la fiesta de la conversión de San Pablo, termina la semana de oración por la unidad de los cristianos. En este contexto, escuchar la llamada de Jesús a ir al mundo entero y proclamar el Evangelio, me ha llevado a pensar en aquellos que hoy día la están escuchando y están respondiendo. La llamada es universal, a todo cristiano, laicos, seglares y sacerdotes, sí, y también a los cristianos de todas las Iglesias, no sólo la católica. No solo nosotros anunciamos la buena nueva a los pobres: en todas las Iglesias cristianas lo hacen, y a veces tan bien o mejor que nosotros. Conozco a dos grandes evangelizadores de iglesias evangélicas, pastor y una pastora, que anuncian la Buena Nueva a los que más sufren en realidades sociales muy difíciles en lugares muy complicados como Colombia. Cuánto ganaríamos si empezáramos a reconocernos como hermanos, a aceptarnos respetando nuestras diferencias, y a colaborar en la misión de anunciar y construir el Reino. Gracias a Dios, algunos pasos ya se han ido dando.

San Pablo respondió a la llamada de Jesús con un cambio radical de vida, pasando de ser perseguidor de los cristianos a anunciar a Cristo a todos en las diversas culturas con las que se encontró. Es el encuentro con el Señor el que le cambió la vida; también es así en nuestra experiencia como cristianos. Eso sí, de maneras diferentes: ese encuentro puede ser repentino o progresivo, puede ser desde fuera de la fe, o ya perteneciendo a diversas iglesias cristianas. Pero la conversión, la escucha de la llamada y el compromiso evangelizador surgen siempre del encuentro personal con Jesús. No hay otro camino: en la oración personal y comunitaria, en la escucha de la Palabra, en los pobres, en los sacramentos que cada Iglesia reconozca…

Necesitamos encontrarnos con Jesús. Todo lo nuevo nace de ese encuentro. La novedad del Reino, y con ella, la novedad de la unidad reconstruida de los cristianos y la novedad de una humanidad justa, pacífica, fraterna y respetuosa con la naturaleza.

This Monday, coinciding with the feast of the conversion of Saint Paul, the week of prayer for Christian unity ends. In this context, listening to the call of Jesus to go to the whole world and proclaim the Gospel has led me to think about those who today are listening and responding to it. The call is universal, to all Christians, laity, laity and priests, yes, and also to Christians of all Churches, not only the Catholic one. Not only do we announce the good news to the poor: in all Christian Churches they do it, and sometimes as well or better than us. I know two great evangelizers of evangelical churches, a pastor and a female pastor, who announce the Good News to those who suffer the most in very difficult social realities in very complicated places like Colombia. How much would we gain if we began to recognize ourselves as brothers, to accept each other while respecting our differences, and to collaborate in the mission of announcing and building the Kingdom. Thank God, some steps have already been taken.

Saint Paul responded to the call of Jesus with a radical change of life, going from being a persecutor of Christians to proclaiming Christ to all in the various cultures he encountered. It is his encounter with the Lord that changed his life; it is also so in our experience as Christians. Of course, in different ways: this encounter can be sudden or progressive, it can be from outside the faith, or already belonging to various Christian churches. But conversion, listening to the call and evangelizing commitment always arise from a personal encounter with Jesus. There is no other way: in personal and community prayer, in listening to the Word, in the poor, in the sacraments that each Church recognizes ...

We need to meet Jesus. Everything new is born from that encounter. The novelty of the Kingdom, and with it, the novelty of the rebuilt unity of Christians and the novelty of a just, peaceful, fraternal humanity respectful of nature.
