Mc 6, 45-52

En aquel tiempo, después de la multiplicación de los panes, Jesús premió a sus discípulos a que subieran a la barca y se dirigieran a Betsaida, mientras él despedía a la gente. Después de despedirlos, se retiró al monte a orar.

Entrada la noche, la barca estaba en medio del lago y Jesús, solo, en tierra. Viendo los trabajos con que avanzaban, pues el viento les era contrario, se dirigió a ellos caminando sobre el agua, poco antes del amanecer, y parecía que iba a pasar de largo.

Al verlo andar sobre el agua, ellos creyeron que era un fantasma y se pusieron a gritar, porque todos lo habían visto y estaban espantados. Pero él les habló enseguida y les dijo: “¡Ánimo! Soy yo; no teman”. Subió a la barca con ellos y se calmó el viento. Todos estaban llenos de espanto y es que no habían entendido el episodio de los panes, pues tenían la mente embotada.

Mk 6:45-52

After the five thousand had eaten and were satisfied,
Jesus made his disciples get into the boat
and precede him to the other side toward Bethsaida,
while he dismissed the crowd. 
And when he had taken leave of them,
he went off to the mountain to pray. 
When it was evening,
the boat was far out on the sea and he was alone on shore. 
Then he saw that they were tossed about while rowing,
for the wind was against them. 
About the fourth watch of the night,
he came toward them walking on the sea. 
He meant to pass by them.  
But when they saw him walking on the sea,
they thought it was a ghost and cried out. 
They had all seen him and were terrified. 
But at once he spoke with them,
“Take courage, it is I, do not be afraid!” 
He got into the boat with them and the wind died down. 
They were completely astounded. 
They had not understood the incident of the loaves. 
On the contrary, their hearts were hardened.

Meditacion:

En una antigua serie de televisión, Perdidos en el espacio, cuando el robot recibía una orden incomprensible o incompatible para su programación, decía “no es computable”. Luego trataba de procesar nuevamente los datos.

En su Evangelio, San Marcos nos muestra que el encuentro con Jesús era tan extraordinario que las personas parecían reaccionar casi igual a este robot.

Cuando Jesús liberó a un hombre de un espíritu maligno mientras estaba en Cafarnaúm, “la gente se admiraba” (Marcos 1, 22). ¡No es computable! Cuando enseñó en la sinagoga de su pueblo natal, los habitantes estaban “admirados” (Marcos 6, 2). ¡No es computable!

Y en el Evangelio de hoy, cuando Jesús camina sobre el agua hacia la barca donde estaban los discípulos, ¡ellos estaban espantados! (Marcos 6, 50). “Tenían la mente embotada y no podían comprender lo que Jesús había hecho (6, 51). ). ¡No es computable!

Ya desde esa época, ha sido difícil para la gente aceptar las palabras de Jesús, especialmente cuando habla sobre quién es él. Como leemos en la primera carta de Juan, algunas personas aseguraban que el Hijo realmente no se había hecho hombre (1 Juan 4, 2-3). Incluso en la actualidad, algunos afirman que Jesús era un maestro ético pero que en realidad no era el Hijo de Dios.

La verdad es que la Encarnación de Jesús es difícil de comprender, y no solo porque el Dios inmortal se hiciera hombre mortal, es un mensaje que nos cuesta entender porque se nos hace difícil imaginar que Dios se hiciera humano para estar cerca de nosotros y revelarnos su amor. Tanta humildad, tanto amor simplemente no es computable.

Todavía estamos en el tiempo de Navidad, cuando reces hoy, toma algún tiempo para “computar” o procesar, o mejor aún, para contemplar la maravillosa realidad de la Encarnación. Medita, como lo hizo María, en que Dios mostró su amor “al enviar a su Hijo único al mundo” (1 Juan 4, 9). Maravíllate porque Dios no solo envió a su Hijo, sino que, ¡lo envió por ti! Sorpréndete de que Jesús no solo entregó su vida, sino que lo hizo por amor a ti. Si no logras “computar” esto, no te preocupes; estás en buena compañía. Solamente continúa pidiéndole a Dios que te persuada con su amor.

“Amado Jesús, tu amor por mí me maravilla.”

In an old television series, Lost in Space, when the robot received an incomprehensible or incompatible command for its programming, it said "it is not computable." Then it would try to process the data again.

In his Gospel, Saint Mark shows us that the encounter with Jesus was so extraordinary that people seemed to react almost the same to this robot.

When Jesus delivered a man from an evil spirit while he was in Capernaum, "the people were amazed" (Mark 1:22). It is not computable! When he taught in the synagogue of his hometown, the inhabitants were "amazed" (Mark 6: 2). It is not computable!

And in today's Gospel, when Jesus walks on the water to the boat where his disciples were, they were scared! (Mark 6, 50). “Their minds were dull and they could not understand what Jesus had done (6, 51). ). It is not computable!

Since that time, it has been difficult for people to accept the words of Jesus, especially when he talks about who he is. As we read in the first letter of John, some people claimed that the Son had not really become man (1 John 4, 2-3). Even today, some claim that Jesus was an ethical teacher but that he was not actually the Son of God.

The truth is that the Incarnation of Jesus is difficult to understand, and not only because the immortal God became mortal man, it is a message that we find difficult to understand because it is difficult for us to imagine that God became human to be near us and reveal ourselves his love. So much humility, so much love is simply not computable.

We are still in Christmas time, when you pray today, take some time to “compute” or process, or better yet, to contemplate the wonderful reality of the Incarnation. Meditate, as Mary did, on how God showed his love "by sending his only Son into the world" (1 John 4: 9). Marvel that God not only sent his Son, but he sent him for you! Be amazed that Jesus not only gave his life, but that he did it out of love for you. If you can't "compute" this, don't worry; you are in good company. Just keep asking God to persuade you with his love.
