Mc 4, 21-25

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a la multitud: “¿Acaso se enciende una vela para meterla debajo de una olla o debajo de la cama? ¿No es para ponerla en el candelero? Porque si algo está escondido, es para que se descubra; y si algo se ha ocultado, es para que salga a la luz. El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga”.

Siguió hablándoles y les dijo: “Pongan atención a lo que están oyendo. La misma medida que utilicen para tratar a los demás, esa misma se usará para tratarlos a ustedes, y con creces. Al que tiene, se le dará; pero al que tiene poco, aun eso poco se le quitará”.

Mk 4:21-25

Jesus said to his disciples,
“Is a lamp brought in to be placed under a bushel basket
or under a bed,
and not to be placed on a lampstand?
For there is nothing hidden except to be made visible; 
nothing is secret except to come to light.
Anyone who has ears to hear ought to hear.”
He also told them, “Take care what you hear.
The measure with which you measure will be measured out to you, 
and still more will be given to you.
To the one who has, more will be given; 
from the one who has not, even what he has will be taken away.”

Meditacion:

Comenzábamos la semana volviendo los ojos y el corazón a San Pablo y a los Santos Timoteo y Tito, grandes misioneros de la primera Iglesia entre los gentiles. Ayer, la parábola del sembrador nos invitaba a acoger con un corazón limpio la Palabra para que así, como tierra buena, demos fruto en abundancia. Ese fruto será de nuevo palabra esparcida para otros que la reciban de nosotros y la puedan acoger de nuevo como tierra buena. Y así, desde los tiempos de Pablo y los primeros evangelizadores hasta hoy: generaciones y generaciones de hombres y mujeres que, acogiendo la Palabra, la transmitieron a otros en situaciones históricas y contextos culturales muy diversos. Y así hasta nosotros.

En este mundo difícil que nos está tocando vivir en este recién estrenado 2021, somos ahora tú y yo, y nuestros hermanos y hermanas en la fe, los que debemos ser candiles que se encienden para iluminar, como nos dice el Evangelio de hoy. En él, tras la parábola del sembrador, se entremezclan excesivamente resumidas y colocadas una tras otra lo que debieron ser distintas enseñanzas de Jesús. Nos quedamos con la primera: no se enciende una luz para esconderla, sino para que ilumine…

Es cierto que en este momento de la historia parece que la humanidad se hunde en un pozo de tinieblas, arrastrada por la muerte y la crisis que nos ha traído no sólo el coronavirus, también las desigualdades crecientes, las guerras, la destrucción de la naturaleza… Cunden la tristeza y el desánimo…, la oscuridad. En medio de tanta noche, nosotros estamos llamados a ser luz. Hemos recibido el don de Dios, la Palabra, el Reino: somos luz que hemos de transmitir al mundo. La gente, los pueblos de la tierra, hoy lo necesitan más que nunca. Brillemos, pues, llenos de esperanza, alegría y amor, en medio de tanta desesperanza, tristeza, egoísmo y violencia. Que así sea.

We began the week by turning our eyes and hearts to Saint Paul and Saints Timothy and Titus, great missionaries of the first Church among the Gentiles.  Yesterday, the parable of the sower invited us to welcome the Word with a clean heart so that, like good soil, we may bear fruit in abundance.  This fruit will again be a word spread for others who receive it from us and can welcome it again as good soil.  And so, from the time of Paul and the first evangelizers until today: generations and generations of men and women who, accepting the Word, transmitted it to others in very diverse historical situations and cultural contexts.  And so on to us.

 In this difficult world that we are having to live in this newly released 2021, it is now you and I, and our brothers and sisters in faith, who must be lamps that are lit to illuminate, as today's Gospel tells us.  In it, after the parable of the sower, excessively summarized and placed one after another are intermingled what must have been different teachings of Jesus.  We are left with the first: a light is not turned on to hide it, but to illuminate ...

 It is true that at this moment in history it seems that humanity is sinking into a pit of darkness, dragged by death and the crisis that has brought us not only the coronavirus, but also growing inequalities, wars, the destruction of nature.  … Sadness and discouragement spread… darkness.  In the midst of so much night, we are called to be light.  We have received the gift of God, the Word, the Kingdom: we are light that we have to transmit to the world.  The people, the peoples of the earth, need it today more than ever.  Let us shine, then, full of hope, joy and love, in the midst of so much hopelessness, sadness, selfishness and violence.  So be it.
