Mc 4, 1-20

En aquel tiempo, Jesús se puso a enseñar otra vez junto al lago, y se reunió una muchedumbre tan grande, que Jesús tuvo que subir en una barca; ahí se sentó, mientras la gente estaba en tierra, junto a la orilla. Les estuvo enseñando muchas cosas con parábolas y les decía:

“Escuchen. Salió el sembrador a sembrar. Cuando iba sembrando, unos granos cayeron en la vereda; vinieron los pájaros y se los comieron. Otros cayeron en terreno pedregoso, donde apenas había tierra; como la tierra no era profunda, las plantas brotaron enseguida; pero cuando salió el sol, se quemaron, y por falta de raíz, se secaron. Otros granos cayeron entre espinas; las espinas crecieron, ahogaron las plantas y no las dejaron madurar. Finalmente, los otros granos cayeron en tierra buena; las plantas fueron brotando y creciendo y produjeron el treinta, el sesenta o el ciento por uno”. Y añadió Jesús: “El que tenga oídos para oír, que oiga”.

Cuando se quedaron solos, sus acompañantes y los Doce le preguntaron qué quería decir la parábola. Entonces Jesús les dijo: “A ustedes se les ha confiado el secreto del Reino de Dios; en cambio, a los que están fuera, todo les queda oscuro; así, por más que miren, no verán; por más que oigan, no entenderán; a menos que se arrepientan y sean perdonados”.

Y les dijo a continuación: “Si no entienden esta parábola, ¿cómo van a comprender todas las demás? ‘El sembrador’ siembra la palabra.

‘Los granos de la vereda’ son aquellos en quienes se siembra la palabra, pero cuando la acaban de escuchar, viene Satanás y se lleva la palabra sembrada en ellos.

‘Los que reciben la semilla en terreno pedregoso’, son los que, al escuchar la palabra, de momento la reciben con alegría; pero no tienen raíces, son inconstantes, y en cuanto surge un problema o una contrariedad por causa de la palabra, se dan por vencidos.

‘Los que reciben la semilla entre espinas’ son los que escuchan la palabra; pero por las preocupaciones de esta vida, la seducción de las riquezas y el deseo de todo lo demás, que los invade, ahogan la palabra y la hacen estéril.

Por fin, ‘los que reciben la semilla en tierra buena’ son aquellos que escuchan la palabra, la aceptan y dan una cosecha: unos, de treinta; otros, de sesenta; y otros, de ciento por uno”.

Mk 4:1-20

On another occasion, Jesus began to teach by the sea.
A very large crowd gathered around him 
so that he got into a boat on the sea and sat down.
And the whole crowd was beside the sea on land.
And he taught them at length in parables, 
and in the course of his instruction he said to them, 
“Hear this!  A sower went out to sow.
And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, 
and the birds came and ate it up.
Other seed fell on rocky ground where it had little soil.
It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep.
And when the sun rose, it was scorched and it withered for lack of roots.  
Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it 
and it produced no grain.
And some seed fell on rich soil and produced fruit.
It came up and grew and yielded thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold.”
He added, “Whoever has ears to hear ought to hear.”

And when he was alone, 
those present along with the Twelve 
questioned him about the parables.
He answered them, 
“The mystery of the Kingdom of God has been granted to you.
But to those outside everything comes in parables, so that

    they may look and see but not perceive,
        and hear and listen but not understand,
    in order that they may not be converted and be forgiven.”

Jesus said to them, “Do you not understand this parable?
Then how will you understand any of the parables?
The sower sows the word.
These are the ones on the path where the word is sown.
As soon as they hear, Satan comes at once 
and takes away the word sown in them.
And these are the ones sown on rocky ground who, 
when they hear the word, receive it at once with joy.
But they have no roots; they last only for a time.
Then when tribulation or persecution comes because of the word, 
they quickly fall away.
Those sown among thorns are another sort.
They are the people who hear the word, 
but worldly anxiety, the lure of riches, 
and the craving for other things intrude and choke the word, 
and it bears no fruit.
But those sown on rich soil are the ones who hear the word and accept it
and bear fruit thirty and sixty and a hundredfold.”

Meditacion:

Sobre el Evangelio de hoy todos hemos escuchado muchos comentarios, y todos sabríamos hacer una aplicación sencilla a nuestra vida y nuestra misión. El sembrador hace llegar la semilla de la Palabra a todos, pero cada uno la recibe de modos diferentes: en el camino sin protección alguna, entre piedras sin tierra donde echar raíces, entre zarzas que ahogan los brotes tiernos, o como tierra buena. El mismo Jesús se encarga de explicarles la parábola a sus discípulos.

Podemos fijarnos hoy en los distintos públicos a los que se dirige Jesús… Miren: Jesús primero relata la parábola a un gran gentío que se había acercado a él, con motivaciones seguramente muy diversas. La explicación vendrá luego, en cambio, para un pequeño grupo de seguidores que quieren vivir lo que Jesús les va enseñando… La muchedumbre ejemplifica la diversidad de terrenos de la propia parábola. Entre ellos habría quienes solo buscaban intereses egoístas, quizás sólo un sanador que les curara; quienes solo irían atraídos por la curiosidad; quiénes irían ya con sus planes de descubrir cómo acabar con él; y al fin quiénes sí tenían el corazón dispuesto para recibir la Palabra y dejarse transformar por ella… Estos últimos son la tierra buena: han escuchado el mensaje de Jesús, han creído en él, y están dispuestos a cambiar su modo de vivir.

Podemos preguntarnos qué buscamos nosotros en Jesús. Es evidente que también nos acercamos a escucharle. Quizás hacemos oración con la Palabra y celebremos la Eucaristía muchos días, quizás le buscamos en el rostro de los más pobres y sufrientes a los que nos acercamos. Pero… ¿qué hay en nuestro corazón? Quizás nos muevan otros intereses: ¿defender nuestras ideas, normas y seguridades?, ¿soluciones fáciles a nuestros problemas?, ¿nuestros miedos y angustias?… Quizás sí que vayamos a su encuentro con la sola intención de escuchar al Señor y cumplir su voluntad, pero nos falte profundidad y raíz. Quizás nuestro corazón esté demasiado atado por otros deseos, económicos, materiales, o los ideales narcisistas del yo, como para dejarnos llevar por el Espíritu y que la Palabra nos transforme.

Pidamos al Señor para que nos ayude a limpiar el corazón para ser tierra buena, que acoge la Palabra y se deja hacer por ella, hasta dar buenos frutos. Que así sea…

We have all heard many comments about today's Gospel, and we would all know how to make a simple application to our life and our mission. The sower brings the seed of the Word to everyone, but each one receives it in different ways: on the road without any protection, between stones without soil to take root, between brambles that choke the tender shoots, or as good soil. Jesus himself is in charge of explaining the parable to his disciples.

Today we can look at the different audiences to whom Jesus addresses ... Look: Jesus first tells the parable to a large crowd that had come to him, with surely very different motivations. The explanation will come later, on the other hand, for a small group of followers who want to live what Jesus is teaching them… The crowd exemplifies the diversity of fields of the parable itself. Among them there would be those who only sought selfish interests, perhaps only a healer who would heal them; who would only be attracted by curiosity; who would already go with their plans to discover how to end him; And finally, who did have a willing heart to receive the Word and allow themselves to be transformed by it… The latter are the good land: they have listened to Jesus' message, they have believed in him, and they are willing to change their way of life.

We can ask ourselves what we are looking for in Jesus. It is evident that we also come to listen to him. Perhaps we pray with the Word and celebrate the Eucharist many days, perhaps we look for him in the faces of the poorest and most suffering to whom we approach. But ... what is in our heart? Perhaps we are moved by other interests: defending our ideas, norms and securities? Easy solutions to our problems? Our fears and anguish? ... Perhaps we will go to meet him with the sole intention of listening to the Lord and fulfilling his will , but we lack depth and roots. Perhaps our heart is too bound by other desires, financial, material, or the narcissistic ideals of the self, to allow ourselves to be carried away by the Spirit and be transformed by the Word.

Let us ask the Lord to help us cleanse our hearts to become a good land that welcomes the Word and allows itself to be done by it, until it bears good fruit. So be it…
