Mc 8, 1-10

En aquellos días, vio Jesús que lo seguía mucha gente y no tenían qué comer. Entonces llamó a sus discípulos y les dijo: “Me da lástima esta gente: ya llevan tres días conmigo y no tienen qué comer. Si los mando a sus casas en ayunas, se van a desmayar en el camino. Además, algunos han venido de lejos”.

Sus discípulos le respondieron: “¿Y dónde se puede conseguir pan, aquí en despoblado, para que coma esta gente?” Él les preguntó: “¿Cuántos panes tienen?” Ellos le contestaron: “Siete”.

Jesús mandó a la gente que se sentara en el suelo; tomó los siete panes, pronunció la acción de gracias, los partió y se los fue dando a sus discípulos, para que los distribuyeran. Y ellos los fueron distribuyendo entre la gente.

Tenían, además, unos cuantos pescados. Jesús los bendijo también y mandó que los distribuyeran. La gente comió hasta quedar satisfecha, y todavía se recogieron siete canastos de sobras. Eran unos cuatro mil. Jesús los despidió y luego se embarcó con sus discípulos y llegó a la región de Dalmanuta.

Mk 8:1-10

In those days when there again was a great crowd without anything to eat,
Jesus summoned the disciples and said,
“My heart is moved with pity for the crowd,
because they have been with me now for three days
and have nothing to eat.
If I send them away hungry to their homes,
they will collapse on the way,
and some of them have come a great distance.”
His disciples answered him, “Where can anyone get enough bread
to satisfy them here in this deserted place?”
Still he asked them, “How many loaves do you have?”
They replied, “Seven.”
He ordered the crowd to sit down on the ground.
Then, taking the seven loaves he gave thanks, broke them,
and gave them to his disciples to distribute,
and they distributed them to the crowd.
They also had a few fish.
He said the blessing over them
and ordered them distributed also.
They ate and were satisfied.
They picked up the fragments left over–seven baskets.
There were about four thousand people.

He dismissed the crowd and got into the boat with his disciples
and came to the region of Dalmanutha.

Meditacion:

Es absolutamente increíble que hoy, Jesús aun da gracias por aquello que le ofrezcamos, aunque sea poco, lo bendice y lo multiplica, de la misma manera en que lo hizo hace dos mil años con aquellos panes y pescados. Desde luego, vemos esto cada vez que celebramos la Misa, pero sucede en muchas otras formas también.

Por ejemplo, San Juan María Vianney sabía que su misión de avivar el amor por Dios en el pueblo de Ars sobrepasaba su capacidad, así que hizo lo que pudo. Rezó por los habitantes del pueblo, visitó sus hogares y los escuchó. Jesús bendijo lo que Juan María Vianney le ofreció, y miles de hombres y mujeres franceses del siglo XIX experimentaron la conversión. La Madre Teresa es otro ejemplo, al recoger a una persona moribunda, y el mundo contempló con asombro cómo Jesús multiplicó su acto de compasión y muchos otros más recibieron de los cuidados de la santa.

Tú también tienes un pedazo de pan, o tal vez un insignificante pescado, para ofrecerle. En vez de preocuparte por lo pequeño que pueda verse, simplemente entrégaselo al Señor, no tengas miedo de ofrecérselo aun cuando tú sientas que es insignificante. Esas cosas pequeñas importan, y tú nunca sabes qué hará el Señor con ellas.

Inicia con lo que puedas: reza por las conversiones, escucha a otros con más paciencia o ayuda a alguien que atreviese una necesidad. Dios perfeccionará tu entendimiento y te enseñará cuál es la mejor forma de servirlo. No verás resultados inmediatamente; tal vez nunca llegues a ver la diferencia que estás haciendo. Pero así como Jesús multiplicó los pescados y los panes, tú puedes confiar en que lo que sea que le hayas ofrecido, ¡él dará gracias por eso, lo bendecirá y lo multiplicará!

“Señor Jesús, te ofrezco mi vida y los dones que tú me has dado. Confío en que tú bendices y multiplicas mis esfuerzos por servirte.”

It is absolutely incredible that today, Jesus still gives thanks for what we offer him, even if it is little, he blesses it and multiplies it, in the same way he did two thousand years ago with those loaves and fish. Of course, we see this every time we celebrate Mass, but it happens in many other ways as well.

For example, St. John Mary Vianney knew that his mission to enliven the love of God in the people of Ars was beyond his ability, so he did what he could. He prayed for the villagers, visited their homes, and listened to them. Jesus blessed what John Mary Vianney offered him, and thousands of 19th century French men and women experienced conversion. Mother Teresa is another example, picking up a dying person, and the world watched in amazement as Jesus multiplied his act of compassion and many more received from the saint's care.

You too have a piece of bread, or perhaps an insignificant fish, to offer him. Instead of worrying about how small it may look, just hand it over to the Lord, don't be afraid to offer it up even when you feel it is insignificant. Those little things matter, and you never know what the Lord will do with them.

Start with what you can: pray for conversions, listen to others more patiently or help someone who dares a need. God will hone your understanding and teach you the best way to serve Him. You won't see results immediately; you may never see the difference you are making. But just as Jesus multiplied the fish and the loaves, you can trust that whatever you have offered him, he will give thanks for it, he will bless it and multiply it!

“Lord Jesus, I offer you my life and the gifts that you have given me. I trust that you bless and multiply my efforts to serve you. "
