Mc 8, 11-13

En aquel tiempo, se acercaron a Jesús los fariseos y se pusieron a discutir con él, y para ponerlo a prueba, le pedían una señal del cielo. Jesús suspiró profundamente y dijo: “¿Por qué esta gente busca una señal? Les aseguro que a esta gente no se le dará ninguna señal”.

Entonces los dejó, se embarcó de nuevo y se fue a la otra orilla.

Mk 8:11-13

The Pharisees came forward and began to argue with Jesus,
seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him.
He sighed from the depth of his spirit and said,
“Why does this generation seek a sign?
Amen, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.”
Then he left them, got into the boat again,
and went off to the other shore.

Meditacion:

Con el evangelio de hoy se inicia  una gran promesa. Caín y Abel habían preparado un sacrificio al Señor porque sabían que él los creó y proveía para ellos, y como sabían que todo venía de él ellos debían hacerle una ofrenda. Dios veía que la ofrenda de Caín no era sincera y conocía la tentación que él estaba enfrentando.

También vemos que Dios le hace una promesa a Caín y le ofrece fuerza para alejarse de la ira y los celos. El Señor estaba listo para ayudarlo a “dominar” el pecado que lo estaba tentando. (Génesis 4, 7).

Esa es otra señal de que Dios no había abandonado a su pueblo después de que Adán y Eva pecaron. En este pasaje podemos ver que Dios habló directamente con Caín, animándolo y guiándolo en la dirección correcta. El Señor no le estaba pidiendo a Caín que confiara solo en sus propias fuerzas; sino que le ofreció fuerza divina para ayudarlo.

Dios te ofrece a ti la misma fuerza divina. Recuerda que él conoce tu corazón, conoce a esas personas que te esfuerzas por amar. También conoce el enojo que albergas en tu corazón, sin embargo te está hablando así como lo hizo con Caín y te promete su gracia para dominar tu propio pecado. El Señor te invita a confesar tus tentaciones para que puedas cambiar tu corazón y te pide que lo escuches para que él pueda ayudarte a encontrar el camino hacia el amor.

Ahora, imagina que tú mismo estás en esa escena. Dios te llama por tu nombre así como llamó a Caín y puedes escucharlo hacerte una pregunta similar a la que hizo entonces: ¿Por qué andas resentido? ¿Por qué estás viviendo en esta tentación? Mientras piensas cómo contestar, recuerda que Dios está esperando pacientemente a que tú le pidas su ayuda. El Señor te está ofreciendo un intercambio: tu ira a cambio de fuerza divina, tus celos por sanación y tu resentimiento por un corazón transformado.

Dios te hace exactamente estas mismas ofertas cuando te enfrentas a cualquier clase de tentación, él siempre está contigo. El Señor conoce tu corazón y siempre está presto a ofrecerte su gracia para ayudarte a dominar todo pecado.

“Señor, te ruego que me des tu fuerza para enfrentar toda tentación.”

With today's gospel a great promise begins. Cain and Abel had prepared a sacrifice to the Lord because they knew that he created and provided for them, and since they knew that everything came from him they should make an offering to him. God saw that Cain's offering was not sincere and knew the temptation he was facing.

We also see that God makes a promise to Cain and offers him strength to turn away from anger and jealousy. The Lord was ready to help him “master” the sin that was tempting him. (Genesis 4, 7).

That's another sign that God had not abandoned his people after Adam and Eve sinned. In this passage we can see that God spoke directly to Cain, encouraging him and guiding him in the right direction. The Lord was not asking Cain to trust only his own strength; rather, he offered divine strength to help him.

God offers you the same divine force. Remember that he knows your heart, he knows those people that you strive to love. He also knows the anger that you harbor in your heart, yet he is speaking to you just as he did to Cain and promising his grace to dominate your own sin. The Lord invites you to confess your temptations so that you can change your heart and asks you to listen to him so that he can help you find the way to love.

Now imagine that you yourself are in that scene. God calls you by name just like he called Cain and you can hear him ask you a question similar to the one he did then: Why are you resentful? Why are you living in this temptation? As you think about how to answer, remember that God is waiting patiently for you to ask for his help. The Lord is offering you an exchange: your anger for divine strength, your jealousy for healing, and your resentment for a transformed heart.

God makes exactly these same offers when you are faced with any kind of temptation, he is always with you. The Lord knows your heart and he is always ready to offer you his grace to help you overcome all sin.

"Lord, I beg you to give me your strength to face all temptation."
