Mt 20, 17-28

En aquel tiempo, mientras iba de camino a Jerusalén, Jesús llamó aparte a los Doce y les dijo: “Ya vamos camino de Jerusalén y el Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado a los sumos sacerdotes y a los escribas, que lo condenarán a muerte y lo entregarán a los paganos para que se burlen de él, lo azoten y lo crucifiquen; pero al tercer día, resucitará”.

Entonces se acercó a Jesús la madre de los hijos de Zebedeo, junto con ellos, y se postró para hacerle una petición. Él le preguntó: “¿Qué deseas?” Ella respondió: “Concédeme que estos dos hijos míos se sienten, uno a tu derecha y el otro a tu izquierda, en tu Reino”. Pero Jesús replicó: “No saben ustedes lo que piden. ¿Podrán beber el cáliz que yo he de beber?” Ellos contestaron: “Sí podemos”. Y él les dijo: “Beberán mi cáliz; pero eso de sentarse a mi derecha o a mi izquierda no me toca a mí concederlo; es para quien mi Padre lo tiene reservado”.

Al oír aquello, los otros diez discípulos se indignaron contra los dos hermanos. Pero Jesús los llamó y les dijo: “Ya saben que los jefes de los pueblos los tiranizan y que los grandes los oprimen. Que no sea así entre ustedes. El que quiera ser grande entre ustedes, que sea el que los sirva, y el que quiera ser primero, que sea su esclavo; así como el Hijo del hombre no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir y a dar la vida por la redención de todos”.

Mt 20:17-28

As Jesus was going up to Jerusalem,
he took the Twelve disciples aside by themselves,
and said to them on the way,
“Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem,
and the Son of Man will be handed over to the chief priests
and the scribes,
and they will condemn him to death,
and hand him over to the Gentiles
to be mocked and scourged and crucified,
and he will be raised on the third day.”

Then the mother of the sons of Zebedee approached Jesus with her sons
and did him homage, wishing to ask him for something.
He said to her, “What do you wish?”
She answered him,
“Command that these two sons of mine sit,
one at your right and the other at your left, in your kingdom.”
Jesus said in reply,
“You do not know what you are asking.
Can you drink the chalice that I am going to drink?”
They said to him, “We can.”
He replied,
“My chalice you will indeed drink,
but to sit at my right and at my left,
this is not mine to give
but is for those for whom it has been prepared by my Father.”
When the ten heard this,
they became indignant at the two brothers.
But Jesus summoned them and said,
“You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them,
and the great ones make their authority over them felt.
But it shall not be so among you.
Rather, whoever wishes to be great among you shall be your servant;
whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave.
Just so, the Son of Man did not come to be served but to serve
and to give his life as a ransom for many.”

Meditacion:

Jesucristo puede ser el Rey de reyes y el Señor de señores, pero él “no ha venido a ser servido, sino a servir” (Mateo 20, 20). Repetidamente, en los Evangelios, vemos a Jesús atendiendo a los pobres, comiendo con los pecadores y los cobradores de impuestos y sanando a los enfermos. Incluso en la noche de su traición, ¡lo vemos lavando los pies del traidor! Pero el punto culminante del servicio de Jesús fue cuando entregó su vida en la cruz para que nosotros pudiéramos reconciliarnos con el Padre. Y lo hizo por amor a cada uno de nosotros.

El ejemplo del Señor Jesús nos muestra que en su corazón, el servicio es una forma en que expresamos amor por el prójimo. Cuando servimos en lugar de exigir que nos sirvan, le permitimos al Señor formar nuestro corazón para que podamos parecernos más a él. También continuamos su obra de traer el Reino de los cielos a la tierra, porque es a través del servicio amoroso que reflejamos el amor que Dios tiene por las personas que están a nuestro alrededor y damos testimonio del Evangelio.

Posiblemente tú ya sirves de muchas formas. Pero pregúntate “¿de qué manera el servicio expresa mi amor por las personas que están en mi vida? ¿Qué revelan mi comportamiento hacia los demás y mi tono de voz al hablar, sobre la forma en que veo el llamado de Jesús a servir? ¿Hay alguna forma en que yo pueda mostrar más compasión por mis hermanos o ser más coherente en mi forma de actuar?” ¡Siempre hay espacio para mejorar!

¿Quieres parecerte más a Cristo? Entonces permítele al Señor que te transforme en un siervo según su corazón, siempre dispuesto a servir como él lo hizo.

“Señor Jesús, por favor muéstrame cómo puedo amar a tu pueblo hoy a través del servicio.”

Jesus Christ may be the King of kings and the Lord of lords, but he "has not come to be served, but to serve" (Matthew 20:20). Repeatedly, in the Gospels, we see Jesus ministering to the poor, eating with sinners and tax collectors, and healing the sick. Even on the night of his betrayal, we see him washing the traitor's feet! But the climax of Jesus' service was when he laid down his life on the cross so that we could be reconciled to the Father. And he did it out of love for each one of us.

The example of the Lord Jesus shows us that in his heart, service is a way in which we express love for our neighbor. When we serve instead of demanding to be served, we allow the Lord to form our hearts so that we can become more like him. We also continue his work of bringing the Kingdom of Heaven to earth, because it is through loving service that we reflect the love that God has for the people around us and we bear witness to the Gospel.

Possibly you already serve in many ways. But ask yourself “how does service express my love for the people in my life? What does my behavior towards others and my tone of voice when speaking reveal about the way I see Jesus' call to serve? Is there a way that I can show more compassion for my siblings or be more consistent in my way of acting? " There is always room for improvement!

Do you want to be more like Christ? Then allow the Lord to transform you into a servant after his own heart, always ready to serve as he did.

"Lord Jesus, please show me how I can love your people today through service."
