Lc 11, 29-32

En aquel tiempo, la multitud se apiñaba alrededor de Jesús y comenzó a decirles: "La gente de este tiempo es una gente perversa. Pide una señal, pero no se le dará más señal que la de Jonás. Pues así como Jonás fue una señal para los habitantes de Nínive, lo mismo será el Hijo del hombre para la gente de este tiempo.

Cuando sean juzgados los hombres de este tiempo, la reina del sur se levantará el día del juicio para condenarlos, porque ella vino desde los últimos rincones de la tierra para escuchar la sabiduría de Salomón, y aquí hay uno que es más que Salomón.

Cuando sea juzgada la gente de este tiempo, los hombres de Nínive se levantarán el día del juicio para condenarla, porque ellos se convirtieron con la predicación de Jonás, y aquí hay uno que es más que Jonás".

While still more people gathered in the crowd, Jesus said to them,
“This generation is an evil generation;
it seeks a sign, but no sign will be given it,
except the sign of Jonah. 
Just as Jonah became a sign to the Ninevites,
so will the Son of Man be to this generation.
At the judgment 
the queen of the south will rise with the men of this generation 
and she will condemn them,
because she came from the ends of the earth
to hear the wisdom of Solomon,
and there is something greater than Solomon here. 
At the judgment the men of Nineveh will arise with this generation
and condemn it,
because at the preaching of Jonah they repented,
and there is something greater than Jonah here.”

Meditacion:

Hoy el evangelio es uno de esos donde van muy intimamente unida la primera lectura, la historia del profeta Jonas y los habitantes de Ninive. 

Dios manda a Jonas a la ciudad de Nininve, en esos tiempos, una de las ciudades mas grandes de la antiguedad, a decirles que si no se arrepienten de sus pecados, su ciudad seria destruida.

Curiosamente, sus habitantes e incluso su rey le creyeron y toda la ciudad desde el rey hasta el mas probre se vistieron pobremente, ayunaron y pidieron perdon por sus pecados.  "Que hombres y animales, vacas y ovejas, no prueben bocado, que no pasten ni beban; que todos se vistan de sayal e invoquen con fervor a Dios y que cada uno se arrepienta de su mala vida y deje de cometer injusticias. Quizá Dios se arrepienta y nos perdone, aplaque el incendio de su ira y así no moriremos". Asi decia el decreto del rey.. Dios cuando vio que se convertian de su mala vida, cambio de parecer y no destruyo la ciudad.

Jesus les recuerda (creo que con un poco de fastidio) esta historia a sus seguidores que "Pide una señal, pero no se le dará más señal que la de Jonás. Pues así como Jonás fue una señal para los habitantes de Nínive, lo mismo será el Hijo del hombre para la gente de este tiempo"

Sin duda que lo extraordinario nos atrae y nos maravilla; un milagro de Jesus era algo extraordinario para su tiempo y aun ahora lo son.

Luego sigue Jesus haciendo una referencia a la reina de saba que habia venido desde muy lejos para conocer a salomon, famoso por su sabiduria y les dice " y aquí hay uno que es más que Salomón".

Y termina diciendo " los hombres de Nínive se levantarán el día del juicio para condenarla, porque ellos se convirtieron con la predicación de Jonás, y aquí hay uno que es más que Jonás".

Jesus nos habla de arrepentimiento y perdon, muy a tono con la cuaresma pero tambien de no esperar signos extraordinarios en nuestras vidas sino (al igual que los ninivitas) nosotros ser el signo extraordinario, el milagro que nadie esperaba, la conversion de la que habla todo mundo,

Se imaginan ustedes que cambiaria si todos en esta Nacion nos vistieramos de pobres, ayunaramos y cambiaramos de vida? porque con la intencion no alcanza.

Bueno, no es irrealizable. En esta cuaresma les propongo aprovecharla, trabajar esas areas nuestras que aun nos cuestan... tal vez un carácter muy irascible con nuestras familias, cierto descuido en nuestras finanzas, alguna adicción que seguimos arrastrando y de una vez para todas tomar control de nuestra vida, arrepintiendonos y haciendo propósito de conversion. Amen

Today the gospel is one of those where the first reading, the story of the prophet Jonas and the inhabitants of Ninive are very intimately united.

God sends Jonas to the city of Nininve, in those times, one of the greatest cities of antiquity, to tell them that if they do not repent of their sins, their city would be destroyed.

Curiously, its inhabitants and even its king believed him and the whole city from the king to the poorest dressed poorly, fasted and asked for forgiveness for their sins. "May men and animals, cows and sheep, do not taste anything, do not graze or drink, let everyone dress in sackcloth and invoke God with fervor and let everyone repent of their bad life and stop committing injustices. repent and forgive us, calm the fire of his anger and we will not die. " Thus said the decree of the king .. God when he saw that they converted from their bad life, changed their minds and did not destroy the city.

Jesus reminds them (I think with a little bit of annoyance) this story to his followers that "He asks for a sign, but no sign will be given except Jonah's, for just as Jonah was a sign for the inhabitants of Nineveh, the same he will be the Son of man for the people of this time "

No doubt that the extraordinary attracts us and marvels us; a miracle of Jesus was something extraordinary for his time and even now they are.

Then Jesus continues making a reference to the queen of saba who had come from far away to meet Salomon, famous for his wisdom and tells them "and here is one who is more than Solomon."

And he ends by saying "the men of Nineveh will rise on the day of judgment to condemn it, because they were converted with the preaching of Jonah, and here is one who is more than Jonah."

Jesus tells us of repentance and forgiveness, very much in tune with Lent but also of not expecting extraordinary signs in our lives but (like the Ninevites) us being the extraordinary sign, the miracle that no one expected, the conversion of the speaker everyone,

Can you imagine what would change if everyone in this Nation dressed up as poor, fasted and changed their lives? because with the intention it is not enough.

Well, it is not unfeasible. In this Lent I propose to take advantage of it, to work those areas that still cost us ... maybe a very irrational character with our families, a certain carelessness in our finances, an addiction that we continue to drag and once and for all take control of our lives , repenting and doing conversion. Amen
