Lc 16, 19-31
En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los fariseos: "Había un hombre rico, que se vestía de púrpura y telas finas y banqueteaba espléndidamente cada día. Y un mendigo, llamado Lázaro, yacía a la entrada de su casa, cubierto de llagas y ansiando llenarse con las sobras que caían de la mesa del rico. Y hasta los perros se acercaban a lamerle las llagas.
Sucedió, pues, que murió el mendigo y los ángeles lo llevaron al seno de Abraham. Murió también el rico y lo enterraron. Estaba éste en el lugar de castigo, en medio de tormentos, cuando levantó los ojos y vio a lo lejos a Abraham y a Lázaro junto a él.
Entonces gritó: 'Padre Abraham, ten piedad de mí. Manda a Lázaro que moje en agua la punta de su dedo y me refresque la lengua, porque me torturan estas llamas'. Pero Abraham le contestó: 'Hijo, recuerda que en tu vida recibiste bienes y Lázaro, en cambio, males. Por eso él goza ahora de consuelo, mientras que tú sufres tormentos. Además, entre ustedes y nosotros se abre un abismo inmenso, que nadie puede cruzar, ni hacia allá ni hacia acá'.
El rico insistió: 'Te ruego, entonces, padre Abraham, que mandes a Lázaro a mi casa, pues me quedan allá cinco hermanos, para que les advierta y no acaben también ellos en este lugar de tormentos'. Abraham le dijo: 'Tienen a Moisés y a los profetas; que los escuchen'. Pero el rico replicó: 'No, padre Abraham. Si un muerto va a decírselo, entonces sí se arrepentirán'. Abraham repuso: 'Si no escuchan a Moisés y a los profetas, no harán caso, ni aunque resucite un muerto' ".

"There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen
and dined sumptuously each day.
And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,
who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps
that fell from the rich man's table.
Dogs even used to come and lick his sores.
When the poor man died,
he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham.
The rich man also died and was buried,
and from the netherworld, where he was in torment,
he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off
and Lazarus at his side.
And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me.
Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
for I am suffering torment in these flames.'
Abraham replied, 'My child,
remember that you received what was good during your lifetime
while Lazarus likewise received what was bad;
but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented.
Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established
to prevent anyone from crossing
who might wish to go from our side to yours
or from your side to ours.'
He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him
to my father's house,
for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them,
lest they too come to this place of torment.'
But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets.
Let them listen to them.'
He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham,
but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
Then Abraham said,
'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded
if someone should rise from the dead.'"

Meditacion:
El evangelio de hoy es bastante conocido pero no menos atemorizante.
Porque a cuantas personas conocemos que le cabria esta parabola?. Personas que han hecho de su vida un ejemplo de nihilismo, autosatisfaccion, que detras de una brillante y exitosa vida esconden un corazon sin ninguna empatia por los demas?
El dinero y el poder son herramientas muy poderosas y deberian ser usada para mejorar la vida de los que menos tienen, la promocion social se esta convirtiendo dia a dia en una urgencia.
Cada dia que pasa vemos mas y mas personas desplazadas de sus hogares por diversas razones.. guerras, hambre, cambio global climatico, falta de oportunidades en sus regiones.. estas personas son muy vulnerables y veremos estas mareas humanas moviendose por nuestro planeta por generaciones.
Y por otro lado tenemos nuestros propios lazaros en nuestras ciudades, frutos de una sociedad injusta que premia al que mas tiene y castiga al que menos, cerrando sus puertas, cortando las prestaciones sociales o de educacion, haciendo que sus esfuerzos por mejorar se vean imposibilitados.
Y los medios sociales por otra parte nos muestran como exitosos las personas con mucho dinero, con poder; parece como si la unica felicidad posible es la que viene de la posesion y no de la simple realidad de tener a Jesus en el corazon.
Esta parabola de hoy es atemorizante... porque la vida se acaba y tu juicio sera basado en lo que hiciste por los demas y como cambio tu vida.. no por los millones que produjiste...
Si hoy eres exitoso, que bueno! Dios te dio un don que no muchas personas poseen, usalo para ayudar a otros, usalo para que otros tengan tus oportunidades.
No vaya a ser que se te acabe tu tiempo y de todo lo que hiciste, nada tengas para mostrarle a Dios. Amen
The gospel of today is well known but no less frightening.
Because how many people do we know that this parable would fit? People who have made their lives an example of nihilism, self-satisfaction, who behind a brilliant and successful life hide a heart without any empathy for others?
Money and power are very powerful tools and should be used to improve the lives of those who have less, social promotion is becoming day by day in an emergency.
Every day that passes we see more and more people displaced from their homes for various reasons .. wars, hunger, global climate change, lack of opportunities in their regions .. these people are very vulnerable and we will see these human tides moving through our planet for generations .
And on the other hand we have our own lazaros in our cities, the fruits of an unjust society that rewards the one who has the most and punishes the least, closing its doors, cutting social benefits or education, making their efforts to improve are impossible .
And social media on the other hand show us as successful people with a lot of money, with power; it seems as if the only possible happiness is that which comes from possession and not from the simple reality of having Jesus in one's heart.
This parabola of today is frightening ... because life is over and your judgment will be based on what you did for others and how your life changed ... not for the millions that you produced ...
If today you are successful, that's good! God gave you a gift that not many people possess, use it to help others, use it so others have your opportunities.
It will not be that you run out of time and everything you did, nothing to show God. Amen
