Pan de vida

Jn 6, 35-40

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a la multitud: "Yo soy el pan de la vida. El que viene a mí no tendrá hambre, y el que cree en mí nunca tendrá sed. Pero como ya les he dicho: me han visto y no creen. Todo aquel que me da el Padre viene hacia mí; y al que viene a mí yo no lo echaré fuera, porque he bajado del cielo, no para hacer mi voluntad, sino la voluntad del que me envió.

Y la voluntad del que me envió es que yo no pierda nada de lo que él me ha dado, sino que lo resucite en el último día. La voluntad de mi Padre consiste en que todo el que vea al Hijo y crea en él, tenga vida eterna y yo lo resucite en el último día''.

Jesus said to the crowds,
"I am the bread of life;
whoever comes to me will never hunger,
and whoever believes in me will never thirst.
But I told you that although you have seen me,
you do not believe.
Everything that the Father gives me will come to me,
and I will not reject anyone who comes to me,
because I came down from heaven not to do my own will
but the will of the one who sent me.
And this is the will of the one who sent me,
that I should not lose anything of what he gave me,
but that I should raise it on the last day.
For this is the will of my Father,
that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him
may have eternal life,
and I shall raise him on the last day."

Meditacion:

En el Evangelio encontramos una queja de Jesús, que nos hace recordar el final del mismo, cuando Tomás necesita ver para creer. Aquí hay quienes han visto (y oído) y no creen, es decir, no acogen a Jesús como revelación del Padre. «Verle» y «creer», empezar a vivir como él, convertirse en discípulo significa tener vida eterna. Ya, ahora; y ser resucitado después, en «el último día», que para el Evangelio de Juan es el día de la Pascua, y el día final de nuestra historia. 

Jesús no quiere «echar fuera» a nadie. Está aludiendo a la expulsión de Adán del paraíso, cuando  dejó de estar a su alcance el «Árbol de la Vida» y Adán y Eva fueron echados fuera. La cruz será el nuevo Árbol de la Vida del que hay que comer/alimentarse para que «no se pierda nadie», ésta es la voluntad del Padre, una salvación universal. 

Además, fue el amor de Jesús a su Padre y su obediencia a la voluntad paterna lo que le llevó a la cruz; y si nosotros nos sometemos también a la voluntad del Padre, podemos recibir la misma fuerza del Espíritu Santo. ¿Crees tú que eres un hijo amado de Dios? ¿Deseas tú conocer su voluntad? De ser así, empezarás a experimentar lo que significa saber que Dios es tu Padre y recibirás la fuerza necesaria para vivir como hijo obediente. Luego, como sucede con un recién nacido, tendrás que alimentarte del Cuerpo y la Sangre del Señor y de la Palabra de Dios. Así tu fe se fortalecerá.

Dicen los especialistas que la expresión «Yo soy el pan de vida» se refiere simultáneamente a la revelación de Jesús (el «Yo Soy» de la zarza ardiente: se conoce quién es Dios «mirando» a Jesucristo) y a la consiguiente respuesta de fe («creer en él»), y también al cuerpo eucarístico de Jesús que hay que comer.  Ojala que Jesús no tenga que quejarse de nosotros porque vemos y no creemos. La voluntad del Padre es que nadie se pierda, sí, pero no nos puede salvar si nos empeñamos en ser «ciegos» culpablemente, porque no queremos alimentarnos de él, creer en él, hacer nuestro su estilo de vida. Amen

In the Gospel we find a complaint of Jesus, which makes us remember the end of it, when Thomas needs to see to believe. Here there are those who have seen (and heard) and do not believe, that is, they do not welcome Jesus as a revelation of the Father. «To see» and «to believe», to start living like him, to become a disciple means to have eternal life. Jesus does not want to "throw out" anyone. He is alluding to the expulsion of Adam from paradise, when the "Tree of Life" was no longer available and Adam and Eve were thrown out. The cross will be the new Tree of Life from which one has to eat / nourish oneself so that "no one is lost", this is the will of the Father, a universal salvation.

Furthermore, it was Jesus' love for his Father and his obedience to the father's will that led him to the cross; and if we also submit ourselves to the will of the Father, we can receive the same strength of the Holy Spirit. Do you think you are a beloved son of God? Do you want to know your will? If so, you will begin to experience what it means to know that God is your Father and you will receive the strength to live as an obedient child. Then, as with a newborn, you will have to feed on the Body and Blood of the Lord and the Word of God. Thus your faith will be strengthened.

Experts say that the expression "I am the bread of life" refers simultaneously to the revelation of Jesus (the "I Am" of the burning bush: it is known who God is "looking" to Jesus Christ) and the consequent response of faith ("Believe in him"), and also to the eucharistic body of Jesus that we have to eat. Hopefully Jesus does not have to complain about us because we see and do not believe. The will of the Father is that no one should be lost, yes, but he can not save us if we insist on being "blind" guilty, because we do not want to feed on him, to believe in him, to make our way of life his.
