El ciento por uno

Mc 10, 28-31

En aquel tiempo, Pedro le dijo a Jesús: "Señor, ya ves que nosotros lo hemos dejado todo para seguirte''.

Jesús le respondió: "Yo les aseguro: Nadie que haya dejado casa, o hermanos o hermanas, o padre o madre, o hijos o tierras, por mí y por el Evangelio, dejará de recibir, en esta vida, el ciento por uno en casas, hermanos y hermanas, madres e hijos y tierras, junto con persecuciones, y en el otro mundo, la vida eterna. Y muchos que ahora son los primeros serán los últimos, y muchos que ahora son los últimos, serán los primeros".

Peter began to say to Jesus,
"We have given up everything and followed you."
Jesus said, "Amen, I say to you,
there is no one who has given up house or brothers or sisters
or mother or father or children or lands
for my sake and for the sake of the Gospel
who will not receive a hundred times more now in this present age:
houses and brothers and sisters
and mothers and children and lands,
with persecutions, and eternal life in the age to come.
But many that are first will be last, and the last will be first."

Meditacion:

Alguna vez me toco dar una clase de teologia usando este fragmento del Evangelio de hoy.

Y yo puedo imaginar a Pedro, el desbocado, que le pregunto esto a Jesus despues tal vez de escuchar el dialogo con el joven rico.

Es tan comun en estos dias! donde esta lo mio?, que hay en esto para mi?, cual sera mi beneficio? Los humanos medimos en termino de ganancias y perdidas nuestra relacion con Dios y los demas.

Yo me pregunte siempre que habia abandonado Pedro? Una barca vieja, un pasado de pescador? pero la historia nos muestra que hay personas (como por ejemplo San Francisco de Asis o San Antonio de Padua) que dejaron fortunas para seguir a Cristo.

No es tanto el "que" se deja como el "con que" espiritu se hace. Aca hay que recordar la parabola de la viuda y el rico. El rico tiraba las monedas desde lejos para que todos vieran su donacion; la viuda, silenciosa y pausadamente, hacia su ofrenda en el silencio del templo.

Hay personas que no estan dispuestas a dar lo que mas necesitarian dar: nuestra forma de pensar, una mala costumbre, cierta desidia a la hora de orar...

Porque el "dar" no es solo lo visible sino tambien en nuestro interior.

En realidad, nadie estara convencido de dar nada hasta que en su corazon y en cabeza ese "dar" tenga sentido.

Decia un Obispo amigo que la verdadera conversion evangelica comenzaba en la cabeza, seguia por el corazon y terminaba en el bolsillo... un chiste para comprender que no siempre nuestra actitud de "dar" es tan abierta como deberia serlo.

Pero Jesus tambien (conocedor de nuestras pobres almas humanas) nos ofrece el ciento por uno y en esto, incluso por experiencia personal, les dire que es verdad, que a Jesus nadie le gana en generosidad y que cualquier pequeno gesto que uno puede hacer por el otro, hace llover bendiciones sobre nuestras cabezas.

Facundo Cabral, un cantante argentino decia que si los malos supieran que buen negocio es ser bueno, dejarian de ser malos aunque sea por conveniencia.

Hermanos y hermanas no tengamos miedo de entregar nuestra vida y cambiar, jamas pensemos que no podemos ser mas generosos que lo que somos pero aseguremosnos de hacerlo por las razones correctas, en nombre de Cristo y por el bien de nuestros hermanos. Amen

Once I had to give a theology class using this fragment of today's Gospel.

And I can imagine Pedro, the runaway, who asked this to Jesus after perhaps hearing the dialogue with the rich young man.

It's so common these days! Where is mine? What is in this for me? What will be my benefit? Humans measure in terms of gains and losses our relationship with God and others.

I always asked myself if Pedro had left? An old boat, a fisherman's past? but history shows us that there are people (such as San Francisco de Asis or San Antonio de Padua) who left fortunes to follow Christ.

It is not so much the "that" is left as the "with what" spirit is made. Here we must remember the parable of the widow and the rich. The rich man tossed the coins from afar so that everyone could see his donation; the widow, silently and slowly, towards her offering in the silence of the temple.

There are people who are not willing to give what they most need to give: our way of thinking, a bad habit, a certain laziness when it comes to prayer ...

Because the "giving" is not only the visible but also in our interior.

In reality, no one will be convinced to give anything until in his heart and head that "giving" makes sense.

A friend Bishop said that the true evangelical conversion began in the head, followed by the heart and ended in the pocket ... a joke to understand that not always our attitude of "giving" is as open as it should be.

But Jesus too (knowledgeable of our poor human souls) offers us a hundred for one and in this, even from personal experience, I will tell you that it is true, that no one wins Jesus in generosity and that any small gesture that one can do for the other, rains blessings on our heads.

Facundo Cabral, an Argentine singer said that if the bad guys knew that good business is to be good, they would stop being bad even for convenience.

Brothers and sisters, let us not fear that we can not be more generous than we are, but let's make sure that we do so for the right reasons, in the name of Christ and for the sake of our brothers and sisters. Amen
