Pide y se os dara

Jn 16, 23-28

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Yo les aseguro: cuanto pidan al Padre en mi nombre, se lo concederá. Hasta ahora no han pedido nada en mi nombre. Pidan y recibirán, para que su alegría sea completa.

Les he dicho estas cosas en parábolas; pero se acerca la hora en que ya no les hablaré en parábolas, sino que les hablaré del Padre abiertamente. En aquel día pedirán en mi nombre, y no les digo que rogaré por ustedes al Padre, pues el Padre mismo los ama, porque ustedes me han amado y han creído que salí del Padre. Yo salí del Padre y vine al mundo; ahora dejo el mundo y vuelvo al Padre’’.

Jesus said to his disciples:
"Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.
Until now you have not asked anything in my name;
ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be complete.

"I have told you this in figures of speech.
The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures
but I will tell you clearly about the Father.
On that day you will ask in my name,
and I do not tell you that I will ask the Father for you.
For the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me
and have come to believe that I came from God.
I came from the Father and have come into the world.
Now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father."

Meditacion:

"Pidan y recibiran" dice Jesus.

Y todos tenemos necesidades, conflictos, problemas en nuestra vida diaria que hace que la oferta de Jesus nos resulte tentadora.

"Pidan en mi nombre y el Padre se los concedera".. parece una puerta abierta a la abundancia, a cubrir todas nuestras necesidades.

Siendo como lo somos, cocreadores de nuestra realidad y, como dice la 2 carta de Corintios "embajadores de Cristo", nos merecemos lo mejor.

Sin embargo hay un punto que me gustaria comentar respecto a nuestra madurez espiritual.

Dios conoce nuestras necesidades, no necesitamos "pedir" porque El ya sabe y de una manera constante, produce en nuestras vidas lo necesario para que sigamos creciendo.

Cuando pienso en estas cosas, me da la impresión de que el mal que más nos ataca es el de la cortedad de vista, la miopía. Parece que todos estamos aquejados de la enfermedad de no ver más allá de nuestra nariz. Terminamos convirtiendo la oración en un “yo”, “yo y los míos”, “yo y mis angustias”. 

Tenemos que ponernos en la perspectiva del reino del que habló Jesús. No sólo habló de él. También nos invitó a participar activamente en su construcción. Con Jesús en medio de nosotros, la fraternidad, la justicia, el amor mutuo, son responsabilidad de todos y cada uno de nosotros. No somos destinatarios pasivos de una medicina, la religión, que nos hace felices. Jesús nos invita a dar un paso al frente y convertirnos en responsables activos, con él y en él, de construir un mundo mejor, más humano, más hermano, más justo, donde nadie quede excluido. 

Es muy fácil que, puestos en esa perspectiva, nuestra oración cambie. Y dejemos de pensar en lo que tiene que hacer Dios para solucionar nuestros problemas y comencemos a pensar en lo que tenemos que hacer para construir el reino. En esa oración descubriremos, ¡seguro!, la fuerza y la gracia de Dios que nos anima e inspira en cada momento del día. Por decir algo concreto: no basta con pedir la curación de mi hermano, tan importante o más es acompañarlo, estar con él, quererlo. Y de esa manera, la enfermedad que forma parte inevitable de la vida, se hace más llevadera, más humana, más compartida. Amen

"Ask and you will receive" says Jesus.

And we all have needs, conflicts, problems in our daily life that make Jesus' offer tempting.

"Ask in my name and the Father will grant them" ... it seems an open door to abundance, to cover all our needs.

Being as we are, co-creators of our reality and, as the 2 letter of Corinthians says "ambassadors of Christ", we deserve the best.

However, there is a point that I would like to comment on our spiritual maturity.

God knows our needs, we do not need to "ask" because He already knows and in a constant way, produces in our lives what is necessary for us to continue growing.

So what does Jesus mean by this tempting phrase? After all, the lotto here is in a more than interesting figure that would make my life very happy ...

When I think about these things, I get the impression that the evil that most attacks us is that of short-sightedness, myopia. It seems that we are all afflicted with the disease of not seeing beyond our nose. We ended up turning prayer into an "I", "me and mine", "me and my anguish".

We have to put ourselves in the perspective of the kingdom of which Jesus spoke. He did not just talk about him. He also invited us to participate actively in its construction. With Jesus in our midst, fraternity, justice, and mutual love are the responsibility of each and every one of us. We are not passive recipients of a medicine, religion, that makes us happy. Jesus invites us to take a step forward and become active leaders, with him and in him, to build a better world, more human, more brother, more just, where no one is excluded.

It is very easy that, put in that perspective, our prayer changes. And let's stop thinking about what God has to do to solve our problems and start thinking about what we have to do to build the kingdom. In that prayer we will discover, surely, the strength and grace of God that animates and inspires us at every moment of the day. To say something concrete: it is not enough to ask for the cure of my brother, so important or more is to accompany him, be with him, love him. And in that way, the disease that is an inevitable part of life, becomes more bearable, more human, more shared. Amen
