Tuyos eran y tu me los diste...

Jn 17, 1-11

En aquel tiempo, Jesús levantó los ojos al cielo y dijo: “Padre, ha llegado la hora. Glorifica a tu Hijo, para que tu Hijo también te glorifique, y por el poder que le diste sobre toda la humanidad, dé la vida eterna a cuantos le has confiado. La vida eterna consiste en que te conozcan a ti, único Dios verdadero, y a Jesucristo, a quien tú has enviado.

Yo te he glorificado sobre la tierra, llevando a cabo la obra que me encomendaste. Ahora, Padre, glorifícame en ti con la gloria que tenía, antes de que el mundo existiera.

He manifestado tu nombre a los hombres que tú tomaste del mundo y me diste. Eran tuyos y tú me los diste. Ellos han cumplido tu palabra y ahora conocen que todo lo que me has dado viene de ti, porque yo les he comunicado las palabras que tú me diste; ellos las han recibido y ahora reconocen que yo salí de ti y creen que tú me has enviado.

Te pido por ellos; no te pido por el mundo, sino por éstos, que tú me diste, porque son tuyos. Todo lo mío es tuyo y todo lo tuyo es mío. Yo he sido glorificado en ellos. Ya no estaré más en el mundo, pues voy a ti; pero ellos se quedan en el mundo’’.

Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said,
"Father, the hour has come.
Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,
just as you gave him authority over all people,
so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him.
Now this is eternal life,
that they should know you, the only true God,
and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
I glorified you on earth
by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.
Now glorify me, Father, with you,
with the glory that I had with you before the world began.

"I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world.
They belonged to you, and you gave them to me,
and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
because the words you gave to me I have given to them,
and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you,
and they have believed that you sent me.
I pray for them.
I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me,
because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours
and everything of yours is mine,
and I have been glorified in them.
And now I will no longer be in the world,
but they are in the world, while I am coming to you."

Meditacion:

Jesús al dirigirse al Padre le dice: “ha llegado la hora”. A lo largo del cuarto evangelio encontramos varias veces la mención a “la hora”, como en las bodas de Caná: “Aún no ha llegado mi hora” (Jn 2,4), o cuando querrían arrestarlo: “nadie lo detuvo, porque no había llegado su hora” (Jn 7,30; 8,20). Como si todo lo que sucediera a Jesús a lo largo de su ministerio fuese una preparación a ese momento. Pues bien, ha llegado su hora. En la perspectiva de Juan esa es la hora esperada de toda la historia, ese momento el centro de la historia del mundo. Todo lo anterior ha preparado ese momento. Todo lo que viene después de él procede.

Jesús se pone en el centro de la historia, como el atleta en el centro del estadio de futbol. Él es el protagonista de la historia, de nuestra historia, de la historia de salvación. Su hora lanza una luz tanto en la memoria del pasado como en la esperanza del futuro. Es el combate entre Jesús y el mundo. Luchan entre sí el amor y el odio. Y en ese combate podemos contemplar el drama de cada uno de nosotros. Su hora ilumina nuestra existencia. Si Jesús ha venido para glorificar al Padre, manifestándolo a los hombres, su pasión y resurrección constituyen el punto más alto de esa glorificación. En el acto de glorificar existe siempre un aspecto de publicidad – hacer aparecer, proclamar, proponer a las aspiraciones humanas – y otro de comunicación del ser. Dios proyecta su ser, trasmite su abundancia, se entrega para que la vida sea fecunda, se presenta en el escenario de la historia revelándonos todo su amor. La gloria de Dios es la vida de los hombres.

A partir de eso, creo que la lectura del Evangelio puede llenarnos de alegría y esperanza. No importa la situación en la que nos encontramos, los dramas en los que vivimos o estamos pasando. Lo que importa es mirar al centro de la historia, también de nuestra historia personal y descubrir en ella la manifestación de Dios, su deseo de hacernos partícipes de su vida, de su divinidad. La intercesión de Jesús “te ruego por ellos” sigue resonando en nuestros oídos. El Hijo pide por nosotros. En Él podemos depositar toda nuestra confianza. Amen

Jesus, addressing the Father, says: "the hour has come". Throughout the fourth gospel we find several times the mention of "the hour," as at the wedding at Cana: "My hour has not yet come" (Jn 2: 4), or when they would arrest him: "No one stopped him, because his hour had not come "(Jn 7:30, 8:20). As if everything that happened to Jesus throughout his ministry was a preparation at that moment. Well, your time has come. In Juan's perspective that is the expected hour of all history, that moment the center of the history of the world. All the above has prepared that moment. Everything that comes after him proceeds.

Jesus puts himself at the center of the story, like the athlete in the center of the football stadium. He is the protagonist of history, of our history, of the history of salvation. Its hour throws a light as much in the memory of the past as in the hope of the future. It is the fight between Jesus and the world. They fight between love and hate. And in that fight we can contemplate the drama of each one of us. His hour illuminates our existence. If Jesus has come to glorify the Father, manifesting it to men, his passion and resurrection constitute the highest point of that glorification. In the act of glorifying there is always an aspect of publicity - making appear, proclaiming, proposing to human aspirations - and another of communication of being. God projects his being, transmits his abundance, surrenders himself so that life may be fruitful, he presents himself on the stage of history revealing to us all his love. The glory of God is the life of men.

From that, I believe that the reading of the Gospel can fill us with joy and hope. No matter the situation we are in, the dramas we live in or are going through. What is important is to look at the center of the story, also about our personal history and discover in it the manifestation of God, his desire to share with us his life, his divinity. The intercession of Jesus "I pray for them" continues to ring in our ears. The Son asks for us. In Him we can place all our trust. Amen
