Hagamos limpieza

Mt 9, 14-17

En aquel tiempo, los discípulos de Juan fueron a ver a Jesús y le preguntaron: "¿Por qué tus discípulos no ayunan, mientras nosotros y los fariseos sí ayunamos?" Jesús les respondió: "¿Cómo pueden llevar luto los amigos del esposo, mientras él está con ellos? Pero ya vendrán días en que les quitarán al esposo, y entonces sí ayunarán.

Nadie remienda un vestido viejo con un parche de tela nueva, porque el remiendo nuevo encoge, rompe la tela vieja y así se hace luego más grande la rotura. Nadie echa el vino nuevo en odres viejos, porque los odres se rasgan, se tira el vino y se echan a perder los odres. El vino nuevo se echa en odres nuevos y así las dos cosas se conservan''.

GospelMT 9:14-17

The disciples of John approached Jesus and said,
"Why do we and the Pharisees fast much,
but your disciples do not fast?"
Jesus answered them, "Can the wedding guests mourn
as long as the bridegroom is with them?
The days will come when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
and then they will fast.
No one patches an old cloak with a piece of unshrunken cloth,
for its fullness pulls away from the cloak and the tear gets worse.
People do not put new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise the skins burst, the wine spills out, and the skins are ruined.
Rather, they pour new wine into fresh wineskins, and both are preserved."

Meditacion:

Hace unos meses atras tuve la oportunidad de charlar con alguien que habia pasado por una ninez muy dificil y complicada. Esta persona, muy catolica y muy comprometida con la Iglesia, me decia que le era imposible perdonar a sus padres por todo lo que habia sucedido en el pasado.

Y llevaba ese dolor alli, por anos ya, sin fijarse nada mas que en eso.

Cualquiera de nosotros que deje un pedazo de queso en la mesa, sabe  que al tiempo se pudrira. atraera insectos y olera horrible.

Pero eso, tan simple, nos es muy complicado de hacer con nosotros. Guardamos dolores, quejas y amarguras por anos. 

Como hacer lugar a Cristo cuando no hay lugar en nuestro corazon mas que para aquello que nos hace mal?

Hoy Jesus nos dice "vino nuevo en odres nuevos" y yo sumo.. renovados por el espiritu santo.

Por otro lado, el ayuno significaba un arrepentimiento solemne, un gran anhelo del favor de Dios. Por eso, ayunar cuando Jesús estaba presente habría sido algo impropio. Él era la respuesta a las oraciones y ayunos del pueblo y él limpiaría el pecado de todos, curaría toda enfermedad y resolvería toda injusticia.

Hoy, si después de haber ayunado y orado pidiendo curación, fuéramos sanados de algo, y en lugar de dar gracias a Dios por su misericordia, continuáramos ayunando y pidiendo la misma sanación, eso sería absurdo. Esto es lo que estaba diciendo Cristo: no se podía seguir ayunando mientras la respuesta a sus oraciones estaba con ellos.

Y eso es lo que hoy debemos tener en cuenta: tenemos a Cristo, ya pago por nuestros pecados, hagamosle un espacio en nuestros corazones, tirando (y aprovechando este verano boreal) todo aquello que nos aqueja y nos viene doliendo por anos.

 El  nos está hablando de el que es “Nuevo”: Jesucristo. Él es el hombre nuevo, el que renueva todo lo caduco que se había ido pegando a la humanidad a lo largo de los siglos... y que sigue amenazando a cada generación y a cada corazón: vivir desde el egoísmo, despreciar al prójimo, cerrarse a Dios. Jesús es nuevo, siendo lo que siempre soñó Dios: abierto al Padre, acogedor del otro, corazón despierto.

Por eso, cuando Jesús entra en la vida, ya no es tiempo de arreglos. Como queramos seguir con las viejas costumbres y dolores, acabarán reventando, como hace el vino nuevo con los odres viejos. Jesús reventó los odres del judaísmo. Y Jesús sigue reventando los antiguos hábitos de “mujeres y hombres viejos”... siempre que le dejemos entrar. Amen

A few months ago I had the opportunity to chat with someone who had gone through a very difficult and complicated childhood. This person, very Catholic and very committed to the Church, told me that it was impossible for her to forgive her parents for everything that had happened in the past.

And I had that pain there, for years now, without noticing anything more than that.

Any of us who leave a piece of cheese on the table, knows that at the time it will rot. It attracts insects and olerates horrible.

But that, so simple, is very complicated for us to do. We keep pains, complaints and bitterness for years.

How to make room for Christ when there is no place in our heart but for what makes us bad?

Today Jesus tells us "new wine in new wineskins" and I sumo ... renewed by the holy spirit.

On the other hand, fasting meant a solemn repentance, a great longing for God's favor. Therefore, fasting when Jesus was present would have been improper. He was the answer to the prayers and fasts of the people and he would cleanse the sin of all, heal all sickness and resolve all injustice.

Today, if after fasting and praying for healing, we would be healed of something, and instead of thanking God for his mercy, we would continue fasting and asking for the same healing, that would be absurd. This is what Christ was saying: you could not keep fasting while the answer to your prayers was with them.

And that is what we must take into account today: we have Christ, and payment for our sins, let's make a space in our hearts, pulling (and taking advantage of this boreal summer) everything that ails us and is hurting for years.

 He is speaking to us about the one who is "New": Jesus Christ. He is the new man, the one who renews everything that had been stuck to humanity over the centuries ... and that continues to threaten every generation and every heart: to live from selfishness, to despise others, to close oneself bye. Jesus is new, being what God always dreamed: open to the Father, welcoming to the other, heart awake.

That is why, when Jesus enters life, it is no longer time for arrangements. As we want to continue with the old habits and pains, they will end up bursting, as does the new wine with the old wineskins. Jesus burst the skins of Judaism. And Jesus continues to burst the old habits of "old women and men" ... whenever we let him in. Amen
