La voluntad de mi Padre

Mt 12, 46-50

En aquel tiempo, Jesús estaba hablando a la muchedumbre, cuando su madre y sus parientes se acercaron y trataban de hablar con él. Alguien le dijo entonces a Jesús: "Oye, ahí fuera están tu madre y tus hermanos, y quieren hablar contigo".

Pero él respondió al que se lo decía: "¿Quién es mi madre y quiénes son mis hermanos?" Y señalando con la mano a sus discípulos, dijo: "Éstos son mi madre y mis hermanos. Pues todo el que cumple la voluntad de mi Padre, que está en los cielos, ése es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre".

While Jesus was speaking to the crowds,
his mother and his brothers appeared outside,
wishing to speak with him.
Someone told him, "Your mother and your brothers are standing outside,
asking to speak with you."
But he said in reply to the one who told him,
"Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"
And stretching out his hand toward his disciples, he said,
"Here are my mother and my brothers.
For whoever does the will of my heavenly Father
is my brother, and sister, and mother."

Meditacion:

Despues de una semana en nuestro Sinodo, hoy volvemos a meditar la palabra de Dios, este ministerio tan pequeno pero tan importante.

Y  nos encontramos con un evangelio bien corto pero muy contundente en el cual Jesus parece rechazar a los suyos. Este evangelio ha sido motivo de controversia por varias razones pero intencionalmente vamos a dejar la controversia y centrarnos en la belleza del mismo.

Jesus abre el juego para todos y nos llama a vivir el amor.  En el Evangelio de hoy encontramos una llamada a vivir desde ese Amor: El que cumple la voluntad de mi Padre, ése es mi hermano, mi hermana y mi madre. ¿Cuál fue la reacción de los familiares de Jesús al escuchar estas palabras tan rotundas? Nos las tendremos que imaginar porque ninguno de los tres evangelistas nos la cuentan. La que sí podemos percibir es nuestra reacción: al escuchar estas palabras de Jesús, ¿nos sentimos verdaderamente sus hermanos?, ¿podemos decir que vivimos cumpliendo la voluntad del Padre?

En efecto, el hecho de pertenecer a la familia de Dios no depende del parentesco sanguíneo, sino de la fe, el deseo de santidad y la obediencia al Señor. Lamentablemente, muchos padres y madres católicos piensan que sólo por el hecho de asistir a Misa los domingos, sus hijos van a ser buenos católicos practicantes, con entendimiento espiritual y rectitud moral. Pero lamentablemente no es así, salvo honrosas excepciones. Por lo general, los jóvenes de hoy se rebelan pronto y llegan a la vida adulta sin conocer realmente a Cristo, resultado de lo cual es la situación actual de la sociedad secular.

En consecuencia, ¿qué enseñanza podemos sacar de este pasaje? Que la mejor fórmula para encontrar y seguir el camino de la santidad y la rectitud es conocer la voluntad de Dios y cumplirla, y ello se consigue llevando una vida ordenada, de oración, de estudio de la Palabra de Dios, de recepción de los sacramentos y de servicio al prójimo. Y esto lo podemos hacer con plena confianza a la luz de la enseñanza del Senor. Amen

After a week in our Synod, today we meditate again on the word of God, this small but important ministry.

And we find a very short but very forceful gospel in which Jesus seems to reject his own. This gospel has been controversial for several reasons but we will intentionally leave the controversy and focus on the beauty of it.

Jesus opens the game for all and calls us to live love. In today's Gospel we find a call to live from that Love: He who fulfills the will of my Father, that is my brother, my sister and my mother. What was the reaction of the relatives of Jesus to hear these words so resounding? We will have to imagine them because none of the three evangelists tell us about it. What we can perceive is our reaction: when we listen to these words of Jesus, do we truly feel like his brothers? Can we say that we live fulfilling the will of the Father?

In fact, the fact of belonging to the family of God does not depend on blood kinship, but on faith, the desire for holiness and obedience to the Lord. Unfortunately, many Catholic fathers and mothers think that just because they attend Mass on Sundays, their children will be good practicing Catholics, with spiritual understanding and moral rectitude. But unfortunately it is not like that, except for honorable exceptions. In general, young people today rebel early and reach adulthood without really knowing Christ, as a result of which the current situation of secular society is.

Consequently, what teaching can we draw from this passage? That the best formula to find and follow the path of holiness and righteousness is to know the will of God and to fulfill it, and this is achieved by leading an orderly life, of prayer, of study of the Word of God, of reception of the sacraments and of service to others. And this we can do with full confidence in the light of the teaching of the Lord. Amen
