Que quieres de nosotros??

Mt 8, 28-34

En aquel tiempo, cuando Jesús desembarcó en la otra orilla del lago, en tierra de los gadarenos, dos endemoniados salieron de entre los sepulcros y fueron a su encuentro. Eran tan feroces, que nadie se atrevía a pasar por aquel camino. Los endemoniados le gritaron a Jesús: "¿Qué quieres de nosotros, Hijo de Dios? ¿Acaso has venido hasta aquí para atormentarnos antes del tiempo señalado?"

No lejos de ahí había una numerosa piara de cerdos que estaban comiendo. Los demonios le suplicaron a Jesús: "Si vienes a echarnos fuera, mándanos entrar en esos cerdos". El les respondió: "Está bien".

Entonces los demonios salieron de los hombres, se metieron en los cerdos y toda la piara se precipitó en el lago por un despeñadero y los cerdos se ahogaron.

Los que cuidaban los cerdos huyeron hacia la ciudad a dar parte de todos aquellos acontecimientos y de lo sucedido a los endemoniados. Entonces salió toda la gente de la ciudad al encuentro de Jesús, y al verlo, le suplicaron que se fuera de su territorio.

When Jesus came to the territory of the Gadarenes,
two demoniacs who were coming from the tombs met him.
They were so savage that no one could travel by that road.
They cried out, "What have you to do with us, Son of God?
Have you come here to torment us before the appointed time?"
Some distance away a herd of many swine was feeding.
The demons pleaded with him,
"If you drive us out, send us into the herd of swine."
And he said to them, "Go then!"
They came out and entered the swine,
and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the sea
where they drowned.
The swineherds ran away,
and when they came to the town they reported everything,
including what had happened to the demoniacs.
Thereupon the whole town came out to meet Jesus,
and when they saw him they begged him to leave their district.

Meditacion:

Leemos al Padre Fiori su reflexion sobre este evangelio:

La escena del evangelio de hoy es un buen pasaje para contemplar, para meterse en la historia, para mirar a la cara a sus personajes, más allá del ropaje cultural en el que nos viene presentada.

Por un lado, están dos personas “endemoniadas”. ¿Qué les pasaba? El evangelista nos da pocos datos, pero suficientes: vivían en el cementerio, muertos en vida, apartados de la civilización; estaban furiosos, agresivos, fuera de sí... ¿quién no lo estaría si las circunstancias de la vida lo hubieran confinado al cementerio? Y provocaban temor, de forma que nadie se atrevía a ir por donde ellos iban.

Ante ellos aparece Jesús. Él mismo ha decidido acercarse. Ha querido ir “a la otra orilla”, a esa tierra concreta. Y los que llamaban “endemoniados”, quién sabe si por la novedad o por la esperanza, “salieron a su encuentro”. Y ante Jesús, hacen lo único que parece sabían ya hacer: gritar. Y Jesús no se aparta, no echa a correr asustado como los demás, sino que permanece, de pie, ante ellos. Quizá por eso los dos hombres pronuncian una segunda frase que suena a petición de ayuda, vislumbrando una posible salida de su situación. Y Jesús entra en diálogo con ellos. Y en esa acogida incondicional, son liberados del mal que les acechaba. La salvación, de la mano de la liberación, ha llegado a su vida.

Frente a Jesús, los del pueblo no se enteran de nada. No les ha gustado el cambio de la situación. Estaban acostumbrados a apartar a aquellos hombres. Vivían más tranquilos. Ahora parecen preocuparse más de las molestias que les ocasiona el cambio que de la salud de sus paisanos. Todo lo contrario de Jesús.

Ante este pasaje podemos meternos en la piel de los hombres llamados “endemoniados”: ¿cuáles son mis “demonios” –los que me hacen ir por la vida sin vida, con ira, asustando a los demás-?.  Podemos meternos en la piel de los del pueblo: ¿cómo reacciono ante los “demonios” de otros y ante sus posibles cambios?. O podemos ponernos en el lugar de Jesús, para aprender de su acogida incondicional que hace posible la salud integral y la vida. Amen

We read to Father Fiori his reflection on this gospel:

The scene of the Gospel today is a good passage to contemplate, to get into the story, to look at the faces of its characters, beyond the cultural clothes in which it is presented.

On the one hand, there are two people "demonized". What happened to them? The evangelist gives us little information, but enough: they lived in the cemetery, dead in life, separated from civilization; they were furious, aggressive, beside themselves ... who would not be if the circumstances of life had confined them to the cemetery? And they caused fear, so that no one dared to go where they were going.

Before them appears Jesus. He himself has decided to approach. He wanted to go "to the other shore", to that concrete land. And those who called "demoniacs", who knows whether by novelty or by hope, "went out to meet him". And before Jesus, they do the only thing they seem to know how to do: scream. And Jesus does not move away, does not run scared like the others, but remains, standing before them. Maybe that's why the two men pronounce a second sentence that sounds at the request of help, glimpsing a possible way out of their situation. And Jesus enters into dialogue with them. And in that unconditional welcome, they are freed from the evil that haunted them. Salvation, from the hand of liberation, has come to your life.

In front of Jesus, the people of the town do not know anything. They did not like the change of the situation. They were used to keeping these men away. They lived more calmly. Now they seem to worry more about the inconvenience caused by the change than the health of their countrymen. The opposite of Jesus.

Before this passage we can get into the skin of men called "demonized": what are my "demons" -the ones that make me go through life without life, with anger, scaring others-? We can get into the skin of the people: how do I react to the "demons" of others and their possible changes ?. Or we can put ourselves in the place of Jesus, to learn from his unconditional acceptance that makes integral health and life possible. Amen
