Mt 17, 22-27

En aquel tiempo, se hallaba Jesús con sus discípulos en Galilea y les dijo: "El Hijo del hombre va a ser entregado en manos de los hombres; lo van a matar, pero al tercer día va a resucitar". Al oír esto, los discípulos se llenaron de tristeza.

Cuando llegaron a Cafarnaúm, se acercaron a Pedro los recaudadores del impuesto para el templo y le dijeron: "¿Acaso tu maestro no paga el impuesto?" El les respondió: "Sí lo paga".

Al entrar Pedro en la casa, Jesús se adelantó a preguntarle: "¿Qué te parece, Simón? ¿A quiénes les cobran impuestos los reyes de la tierra, a los hijos o a los extraños?" Pedro le respondió: "A los extraños". Entonces Jesús le dijo: "Por lo tanto, los hijos están exentos. Pero para no darles motivo de escándalo, ve al lago y echa el anzuelo, saca el primer pez que pique, ábrele la boca y encontrarás una moneda. Tómala y paga por mí y por ti".

As Jesus and his disciples were gathering in Galilee,
Jesus said to them,
"The Son of Man is to be handed over to men,
and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day."
And they were overwhelmed with grief.

When they came to Capernaum,
the collectors of the temple tax approached Peter and said,
"Does not your teacher pay the temple tax?"
"Yes," he said. 
When he came into the house, before he had time to speak,
Jesus asked him, "What is your opinion, Simon?
From whom do the kings of the earth take tolls or census tax?
From their subjects or from foreigners?"
When he said, "From foreigners," Jesus said to him,
"Then the subjects are exempt.
But that we may not offend them, go to the sea, drop in a hook,
and take the first fish that comes up. 
Open its mouth and you will find a coin worth twice the temple tax.
Give that to them for me and for you."

Meditacion:

Comenzamos la semana con este evangelio que nos muestra dos cosas de Jesus... en la primera parte, Jesus anuncia su muerte y resurreccion. Toda la semana pasada, estuvimos leyendo sobre la fe y, finalmente, ayer domingo, a Jesus declarando que El era el cordero, el hijo de Dios. Leemos de "La palabra entre nosotros":

Como si esto fuera poco, Pedro, Santiago y Juan habían visto al Señor transfigurado en la montaña y escuchado la voz de Dios que decía: “Éste es mi Hijo muy amado, en quien tengo puestas mis complacencias; escúchenlo” (Mateo 17, 5). Presenciando tan magníficas señales y prodigios, los discípulos llegaron a convencerse de que Jesús era en efecto el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios, que había venido a salvar al pueblo. El Señor reafirmó la autenticidad de su persona comunicando su palabra a sus discípulos.

El anuncio de su pasión y el pasaje acerca del pago del impuesto en el templo fueron, para sus seguidores, dos indicaciones claras de quién era Jesús. Primero, declaró ser el “Hijo del hombre”, haciendo referencia a la visión del profeta Daniel que vio a un ser celestial a quien “le fue dado el poder, la gloria y el Reino, y gente de todas las naciones y lenguas le servían” (Daniel 7, 14).

Luego, Jesús actuó como hijo del rey, a quien no se le exige pagar tributos a su padre, y por eso, no tenía que pagar el impuesto religioso para el mantenimiento del templo ¡porque el Dueño del templo era su Padre!

Esto no deja duda alguna de que Jesús no era sólo un hombre que curaba las enfermedades, predicaba el Reino y hacía milagros. El Señor es mucho más que eso: Es el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios e Hijo del hombre, destinado a reinar sobre todo el universo para siempre. ¡Es, era y será siempre el Hijo de Dios Todopoderoso!

Los creyentes hemos de descubrir la verdadera identidad de Jesús de un modo cada vez más profundo. Veamos a Jesús en la liturgia, la oración, la lectura bíblica y pidamos la revelación de su identidad, sabiendo con toda confianza que él desea revelarse a nosotros, tal como se reveló a sus apóstoles.

“Señor mío, Jesucristo, quiero conocerte mejor. Ilumina mi entendimiento, te ruego, para tener una mejor revelación de tu magnificencia y tu gloria como Hijo del hombre e Hijo de Dios. Quiero ser tu discípulo todos los días de mi vida.” Amen

Witnessing such magnificent signs and wonders, the disciples came to be convinced that Jesus was indeed the Messiah, the Son of God, who had come to save the people. The Lord reaffirmed the authenticity of his person by communicating his word to his disciples.

The announcement of his passion and the passage about the payment of the tax in the temple were, for his followers, two clear indications of who Jesus was. First, he declared himself to be the "Son of man," referring to the vision of the prophet Daniel who saw a celestial being who was "given power, glory and the Kingdom, and people of all nations and languages ​​served him." "(Daniel 7, 14).

Then, Jesus acted as the King's son, who was not required to pay tribute to his father, and therefore, he did not have to pay the religious tax for the maintenance of the temple because the Owner of the temple was his Father!

This leaves no doubt that Jesus was not just a man who cured diseases, preached the Kingdom and performed miracles. The Lord is much more than that: He is the Messiah, the Son of God and Son of man, destined to reign over the entire universe forever. He is, was and always will be the Son of God Almighty!

Believers must discover the true identity of Jesus in an ever deeper way. Let us see Jesus in the liturgy, the prayer, the biblical reading and ask for the revelation of his identity, knowing with confidence that he wants to reveal himself to us, as he revealed himself to his apostles.

"My Lord, Jesus Christ, I want to know you better. Illuminate my understanding, I beg you, to have a better revelation of your magnificence and your glory as Son of man and Son of God. I want to be your disciple all the days of my life. "Amen
