Lc 9, 18-22

Un día en que Jesús, acompañado de sus discípulos, había ido a un lugar solitario para orar, les preguntó: "¿Quién dice la gente que soy yo?" Ellos contestaron: "Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; y otros, que alguno de los antiguos profetas, que ha resucitado".

Él les dijo: "Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?" Respondió Pedro: "El Mesías de Dios". Entonces Jesús les ordenó severamente que no lo dijeran a nadie.

Después les dijo: "Es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sufra mucho, que sea rechazado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que sea entregado a la muerte y que resucite al tercer día".

Meditacion:

Uno de los problemas que nosotros tenemos es que leemos la biblia sabiendo mas o menos como terminara... al cabo de 3 años de predica, Jesus morira y resucitara...

Pero para los apostoles, reconocer como lo hace Pedro en el evangelio de hoy dia que era "el Mesias de Dios" es un logro extraordinario.

En el Antiguo Testamento, el Mesías debía salvar al pueblo de Dios de sus enemigos y restituir su heredad. Jesús era el Mesías prometido y enviado por Dios para liberar a todos de sus enemigos, para hablar y realizar obras con la autoridad de Dios y hacer sentir su presencia en medio del pueblo. Pero mientras los discípulos no entendieran el sufrimiento y la muerte de Jesús, no estarían en condiciones de hablar acerca de él.

De modo que, en lugar de darse a conocer como Mesías, Jesús prefirió usar el enigmático título de “Hijo del hombre”. En el Antiguo Testamento, este título fue usado tanto para hacer resaltar la condición humilde del ser humano (Salmo 11, 4), como para referirse, en los escritos apocalípticos, a Aquel que se identificaría perfectamente con Dios, es decir, uno investido de gloria y poder celestial y digno de ser venerado (Daniel 7, 13-14). Usando este título, Jesús daba a conocer su propia naturaleza divina y rechazaba al mismo tiempo la idea del poder pasajero y la gloria mundana que la gente le atribuía al título de “Mesías”.

Jesús sabía que tenía que aceptar la cruz y que su gloria provendría de su propia sumisión incondicional a la voluntad de su Padre. Nosotros, los discípulos de Cristo, también necesitamos esta perspectiva celestial y reconocer que el Reino de Dios quedó establecido gracias al sacrificio de la cruz. Querido lector, nosotros también debemos aceptar la cruz como él lo hizo, dejando que ella dé muerte a nuestros deseos egoístas para que podamos hacer la voluntad de Dios.

Jesus knew that he had to accept the cross and that his glory would come from his own unconditional submission to the will of his Father. We, the disciples of Christ, also need this heavenly perspective and recognize that the Kingdom of God was established thanks to the sacrifice of the cross. Dear reader, we must also accept the cross as he did, letting it kill our selfish desires so that we can do God's will.
