El banquete

Lc 16, 19-31

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a los fariseos: "Había un hombre rico, que se vestía de púrpura y telas finas y banqueteaba espléndidamente cada día. Y un mendigo, llamado Lázaro, yacía a la entrada de su casa, cubierto de llagas y ansiando llenarse con las sobras que caían de la mesa del rico. Y hasta los perros se acercaban a lamerle las llagas.

Sucedió, pues, que murió el mendigo y los ángeles lo llevaron al seno de Abraham. Murió también el rico y lo enterraron. Estaba éste en el lugar de castigo, en medio de tormentos, cuando levantó los ojos y vio a lo lejos a Abraham y a Lázaro junto a él.

Entonces gritó: 'Padre Abraham, ten piedad de mí. Manda a Lázaro que moje en agua la punta de su dedo y me refresque la lengua, porque me torturan estas llamas'. Pero Abraham le contestó: 'Hijo, recuerda que en tu vida recibiste bienes y Lázaro, en cambio, males. Por eso él goza ahora de consuelo, mientras que tú sufres tormentos. Además, entre ustedes y nosotros se abre un abismo inmenso, que nadie puede cruzar, ni hacia allá ni hacia acá'.

El rico insistió: 'Te ruego, entonces, padre Abraham, que mandes a Lázaro a mi casa, pues me quedan allá cinco hermanos, para que les advierta y no acaben también ellos en este lugar de tormentos'. Abraham le dijo: 'Tienen a Moisés y a los profetas; que los escuchen'. Pero el rico replicó: 'No, padre Abraham. Si un muerto va a decírselo, entonces sí se arrepentirán'. Abraham repuso: 'Si no escuchan a Moisés y a los profetas, no harán caso, ni aunque resucite un muerto' ".

Jesus said to the Pharisees:
"There was a rich man who dressed in purple garments and fine linen
and dined sumptuously each day.
And lying at his door was a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sores,
who would gladly have eaten his fill of the scraps
that fell from the rich man's table.
Dogs even used to come and lick his sores.
When the poor man died,
he was carried away by angels to the bosom of Abraham.
The rich man also died and was buried,
and from the netherworld, where he was in torment,
he raised his eyes and saw Abraham far off
and Lazarus at his side.
And he cried out, 'Father Abraham, have pity on me.
Send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue,
for I am suffering torment in these flames.'
Abraham replied, 'My child,
remember that you received what was good during your lifetime
while Lazarus likewise received what was bad;
but now he is comforted here, whereas you are tormented.
Moreover, between us and you a great chasm is established
to prevent anyone from crossing
who might wish to go from our side to yours
or from your side to ours.'
He said, 'Then I beg you, father, send him
to my father's house,
for I have five brothers, so that he may warn them,

lest they too come to this place of torment.'
But Abraham replied, 'They have Moses and the prophets.
Let them listen to them.'
He said, 'Oh no, father Abraham,
but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.'
Then Abraham said,
'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets,
neither will they be persuaded
if someone should rise from the dead.'"

Meditacion:

Leyendo el evangelio de hoy pensaba que no es Dios quien condena sino nosotros mismos por nuestros pecados.

Y que muchas veces nos hemos cruzado con estos "muertos que resucitaron". personas que vivian de una manera pecaminosa y se convirtieron, tomando la decision de vivir en la gracia de Dios.

Y no estoy hablando de personas que viven orando en la Iglesia sino de muchos que conozco que viven de una manera integra, buscando hacer el bien a los demas.

Dios me ha dado el privilegio de cruzarme casi a diario con ellos y verlos como un gran ejemplo diario de lo que la Gracia Divina puede hacer en nosotros y como cambia corazones.

Pero muchos hermanos no ven esta vision, tan centrado estan en su capacidad humana, pensando que no necesitan a Dios que, sencillamente, toda la cuestion espiritual los tiene sin cuidado.

No cometamos el error de dejar a Dios fuera de nuestro corazon y nuestra vida. Es el ultimo error que cometeremos y el mas fatal.

Todos tenemos muchas responsabilidades y ocupaciones que atender en la familia y en el trabajo; la lista de quehaceres, trámites y diligencias es prácticamente interminable. Todas estas son responsabilidades buenas y necesarias; pero si ocupan nuestra atención por completo, es posible que nos hagan desentendernos también de los “Lázaros” que esperan nuestro auxilio, a veces sin decirlo, y dejarnos en la misma situación del rico Epulón, consumidos en nosotros mismos. Dios quiere algo mucho mejor para sus hijos; solamente falta que abramos el corazón al Señor y seamos dóciles a sus verdades; así encontraremos abundancia de tesoros incalculables en su palabra, riquezas con las cuales podemos “banquetearnos” todos los días. ¡Quiera el Señor que estemos bien dispuestos a recibirlas!

“Espíritu Santo, cámbiame el corazón para que yo sea dócil y sensible. Tengo muchas cosas que hacer hoy día, pero te pediré que me ayudes a dedicarte tiempo y atención, para que tu palabra me llene de tus verdades.” Amen

Reading today's Gospel, I thought that it is not God who condemns but ourselves for our sins.

And that many times we have crossed with these "dead who were resurrected". people who lived in a sinful way and converted, taking the decision to live in the grace of God.

And I'm not talking about people who live praying in the Church but about many who I know who live in an integral way, seeking to do good to others.

God has given me the privilege of crossing almost daily with them and seeing them as a great daily example of what Divine Grace can do in us and how it changes hearts.

But many brothers do not see this vision, so focused on their human capacity, thinking that they do not need God that, simply, the whole spiritual question has no care.

Let's not make the mistake of leaving God out of our hearts and our lives. It is the last mistake we will make and the most fatal one.

We all have many responsibilities and occupations to attend to in the family and at work; the list of chores, procedures and procedures is practically endless. All these are good and necessary responsibilities; but if they occupy our attention completely, it is possible that they make us also disregard the "Lazaros" who wait for our help, sometimes without saying it, and leave us in the same situation as the rich Epulon, consumed in ourselves. God wants something much better for his children; we only need to open our hearts to the Lord and be docile to his truths; thus we will find abundance of incalculable treasures in his word, riches with which we can "feast" every day. May the Lord be willing to receive them!

"Holy Spirit, change my heart so that I am docile and sensitive. I have many things to do today, but I will ask you to help me dedicate time and attention, so that your word fills me with your truths. "Amen
