Luz del mundo

Mt 5, 13-16

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: "Ustedes son la sal de la tierra. Si la sal se vuelve insípida, ¿con qué se le devolverá el sabor? Ya no sirve para nada y se tira a la calle para que la pise la gente.

Ustedes son la luz del mundo. No se puede ocultar una ciudad construida en lo alto de un monte; y cuando se enciende una vela, no se esconde debajo de una olla, sino que se pone sobre un candelero, para que alumbre a todos los de la casa.

Que de igual manera brille la luz de ustedes ante los hombres, para que viendo las buenas obras que ustedes hacen, den gloria a su Padre, que está en los cielos''.

Gospel MT 5:13-16

Jesus said to his disciples:
"You are the salt of the earth.
But if salt loses its taste, with what can it be seasoned?
It is no longer good for anything
but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot.
You are the light of the world.
A city set on a mountain cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and then put it under a bushel basket;
it is set on a lampstand,
where it gives light to all in the house.
Just so, your light must shine before others,
that they may see your good deeds
and glorify your heavenly Father."

Meditacion:

Ayer estaba como muchos de nosotros por aca en el norte de california, agobiado por el intenso calor que hacia.

Y pensaba que en una Parroquia hay muchos buenos administradores, o trabajadores, o voluntarios que son los primeros en ayudar cuando uno pide.

Pero no siempre hay muchos que oren cada dia.

Y no hay manera que nuestra accion evangelizadora, cualquiera de ellas que sea, se mantenga en el tiempo sin la ayuda de la oracion.

"Ustedes son la sal de la tierra" dice Jesus, "Ustedes son la luz del mundo" y finaliza "Que de igual manera brille la luz de ustedes ante los hombres, para que viendo las buenas obras que ustedes hacen, den gloria a su Padre, que está en los cielos''.

Nuestra luz brilla cuando estamos caminando en la gracia del Padre, tomados de la mano con Jesus. Y eso no sucedera si no tenemos la costumbre de la oracion.

Muchas personas buenas me dicen que no tienen tiempo para orar. Pero orar debe ser tu mision primaria, hasta que, como en el camino del monje, toda tu vida se convierta en oracion; tu trabajo, tus decisiones, tus posesiones sean un canto al servicio a los demas.

Para eso es importante dejar de lado nuestro egoismo natural y solo dejarse llevar por Dios, "es mi voluntad que hoy se haga tu voluntad" cantamos los monjes en la madrugada.

En palabras del papa Francisco:  «Jesuus mismo es el modelo de esta opcion evangelizadora que nos introduce en el corazon del pueblo…Cautivados por ese modelo, deseamos integrarnos a fondo en la sociedad, compartimos la vida con todos, escuchamos sus inquietudes, colaboramos material y espiritualmente con ellos en sus necesidades, nos alegramos con los que estan alegres, lloramos con los que lloran y nos comprometemos en la construccion de un mundo nuevo…» (EG 269). ¿Qué acciones podrían realizar tú y tu comunidad para hacer presente la Buena Nueva de Jesús?

La escritora Caryll Houselander dijo una vez: “A veces nos parece que la vida no tiene sentido, que ir día tras día por años a la misma oficina, o escuela o fábrica no es nada más que un desperdicio y un fastidio. Pero bien podría ser que Dios nos ha enviado ahí porque sin nosotros Cristo no estaría en ese lugar. Si nuestra presencia en ese lugar permite que Cristo esté allí, habrá valido la pena.”

Y todo esto tendra un sentido si lo acompañamos con una oracion diaria, profunda y sentida.

“Amado Señor, permite que la luz de Cristo brille hoy en mí.” Amen

Yesterday he was like many of us here in northern California, overwhelmed by the intense heat he was doing.

And I thought that in a Parish there are many good administrators, or workers, or volunteers who are the first to help when you ask.

But there are not always many who pray every day.

And there is no way that our evangelizing action, whatever it may be, is maintained in time without the help of prayer.

"You are the salt of the earth" says Jesus, "You are the light of the world" and concludes "That in the same way shine the light of you before the men, so that seeing the good works that you do, give glory to your Father who is in heaven''.

Our light shines when we are walking in the grace of the Father, holding hands with Jesus. And that will not happen if we do not have the habit of prayer.

Many good people tell me they do not have time to pray. But prayer should be your primary mission, until, as in the monk's way, your whole life becomes a prayer; your work, your decisions, your possessions are a song to serve others.

That is why it is important to put aside our natural selfishness and only let ourselves be carried away by God, "it is my will that today your will be done", the monks sang at dawn.

In the words of Pope Francis: "Jesus himself is the model of this evangelizing option that introduces us into the hearts of the people ... Captivated by this model, we want to integrate deeply into society, we share life with everyone, we listen to their concerns, we collaborate material and spiritually with them in their needs, we rejoice with those who are happy, we mourn with those who mourn and we commit ourselves in the construction of a new world ... »(EG 269). What actions could you and your community take to make present the Good News of Jesus?

The writer Caryll Houselander once said: "Sometimes it seems to us that life has no meaning, that going day after day for years to the same office, or school or factory is nothing but waste and annoyance. But it could well be that God has sent us there because without us Christ would not be in that place. If our presence in that place allows Christ to be there, it will have been worth it. "

And all this will have a meaning if we accompany him with a daily, deep and heartfelt prayer.

"Beloved Lord, allow the light of Christ to shine on me today." Amen
