Tu eres el Mesias

 Lectura del santo Evangelio según san Mateo         16, 13-19

En aquel tiempo, cuando llegó Jesús a la región de Cesarea de Filipo, hizo esta pregunta a sus discípulos: "¿Quién dice la gente que es el Hijo del hombre?" Ellos le respondieron: "Unos dicen que eres Juan el Bautista; otros, que Elías; otros, que Jeremías o alguno de los profetas".

Luego les preguntó: "Y ustedes, ¿quién dicen que soy yo?" Simón Pedro tomó la palabra y le dijo: "Tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios vivo".

Jesús le dijo entonces: "¡Dichoso tú, Simón, hijo de Juan, porque esto no te lo ha revelado ningún hombre, sino mi Padre que está en los cielos! Y yo te digo a ti que tú eres Pedro y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia. Los poderes del infierno no prevalecerán sobre ella. Yo te daré las llaves del Reino de los cielos; todo lo que ates en la tierra quedará atado en el cielo, y todo lo que desates en la tierra quedará desatado en el cielo"

When Jesus went into the region of Caesarea Philippi
he asked his disciples,
"Who do people say that the Son of Man is?"
They replied, "Some say John the Baptist, others Elijah,
still others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."
He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"
Simon Peter said in reply,
"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."
Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah.
For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
And so I say to you, you are Peter,
and upon this rock I will build my Church,
and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
I will give you the keys to the Kingdom of heaven. 
Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven;
and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Meditacion:

Hoy reflexionamos sobre un texto del Padre Noguiera:

Celebrar San Pedro y San Pablo es celebrar la vida de la Iglesia en su totalidad, es decir, en su dimensión estructural, jerárquica, administrativa y sacramental (Pedro) y en su dimensión misionera (Pablo). Para esto, es fundamental comprender la pregunta que Jesús hace a sus discípulos: “¿quién decís que soy yo?” Responder a esta pregunta es imprescindible para ser discípulo de Jesús al estilo de los apóstoles.

Pedro la respondió en nombre de todos: “Tú eres el Mesías, el Hijo de Dios vivo”. Pero su respuesta no vino de lo que había oído, sino porque Dios le había revelado. Y esto no se dio porque Pedro era mejor o más entendido que los demás, sino por su compromiso y fidelidad a Jesús y su misión. Así, la fe profesada por Pedro constituye el fundamento de la Iglesia.

A la respuesta de Pedro, Jesús le revela la misión que desea confiarle: “tú eres Pedro, y sobre esta piedra edificaré mi Iglesia, y el poder del infierno no la derrotará. Te daré las llaves del reino de los cielos; lo que ates en la tierra quedará atado en el cielo, y lo que desates en la tierra quedará desatado en el cielo”. En este diálogo aparece, de manera anticipada, el drama de la historia del Papado, caracterizado por la presencia de dos elementos: la fuerza que viene de lo Alto, que constituye el fundamento de la Iglesia, y la debilidad humana, que necesita abrirse a la acción de Dios.

De igual modo, lo vemos en Pablo: “He combatido bien mi combate, he corrido hasta la meta, he mantenido la fe”. Seguramente, no se trata del combate del combatiente, sino de la fidelidad a Cristo y a su Iglesia. Igualmente, vemos en Pablo el tema de la acción divina y la apertura de la fragilidad humana a la gracia: “Así que muy a gusto me gloriaré de mis debilidades, para que se aloje en mí el poder de Cristo. Por eso estoy contento con las debilidades, insolencias, necesidades, persecuciones y angustias por Cristo. Porque cuando soy débil, entonces soy fuerte” (1Cor 12,9-10).

Lo que contemplamos en la experiencia de Pedro y Pablo desde el encuentro con Jesús es un cambio profundo en la existencia de estos dos hombres. Ellos fueron transformados por el amor y la bondad de Dios. Pidamos al Señor que nos ayude a seguir el camino de los apóstoles, siendo fieles a su Iglesia, que, en la diversidad de dones, expresa la belleza de la misión que Cristo le confió.

“Amado Jesucristo, te doy gracias por llamarme a ser uno de tus discípulos. Lléname de tu amor y de fe, Señor, para que yo siempre proclame que tú eres mi Dios y Salvador, junto con todo tu pueblo.” Amen

Today we reflect on a text by Father Noguiera:

To celebrate Saint Peter and Saint Paul is to celebrate the life of the Church in its totality, that is, in its structural, hierarchical, administrative and sacramental dimension (Peter) and in its missionary dimension (Paul). For this, it is fundamental to understand the question that Jesus asks his disciples: "Who do you say that I am?" Answering this question is essential to be a disciple of Jesus in the style of the apostles.

Peter answered on behalf of all: "You are the Messiah, the Son of God alive." But his response did not come from what he had heard, but because God had revealed him. And this did not happen because Peter was better or more understood than the others, but because of his commitment and fidelity to Jesus and his mission. Thus, the faith professed by Peter constitutes the foundation of the Church.

To Peter's response, Jesus reveals to him the mission that he wishes to entrust to him: "You are Peter, and on this rock I will build my Church, and the power of hell will not defeat it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. " In this dialogue appears, in advance, the drama of the history of the Papacy, characterized by the presence of two elements: the force that comes from above, which is the foundation of the Church, and human weakness, which needs to open up to the action of God.

In the same way, we see it in Paul: "I have fought well my fight, I have run to the finish line, I have maintained the faith". Surely, it is not about the combat of the combatant, but about fidelity to Christ and his Church. Likewise, we see in Paul the theme of divine action and the opening of human frailty to grace: "So I will be happy to glory in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may be lodged in me. That is why I am happy with the weaknesses, insolence, needs, persecutions and anguish for Christ. Because when I am weak, then I am strong "(1Cor 12,9-10).

What we see in the experience of Peter and Paul from the encounter with Jesus is a profound change in the existence of these two men. They were transformed by the love and kindness of God. Let us ask the Lord to help us to follow the path of the apostles, being faithful to his Church, which, in the diversity of gifts, expresses the beauty of the mission that Christ entrusted to her.

"Beloved Jesus Christ, I thank you for calling me to be one of your disciples. Fill me with your love and faith, Lord, so that I may always proclaim that you are my God and Savior, together with all your people. "Amen
