Asuncion de la Virgen

Lc 1, 39-56

En aquellos días, María se encaminó presurosa a un pueblo de las montañas de Judea, y entrando en la casa de Zacarías, saludó a Isabel. En cuanto ésta oyó el saludo de María, la creatura saltó en su seno.

Entonces Isabel quedó llena del Espíritu Santo, y levantando la voz, exclamó: "¡Bendita tú entre las mujeres y bendito el fruto de tu vientre! ¿Quién soy yo para que la madre de mi Señor venga a verme? Apenas llegó tu saludo a mis oídos, el niño saltó de gozo en mi seno. Dichosa tú, que has creído, porque se cumplirá cuanto te fue anunciado de parte del Señor".

Entonces dijo María:
"Mi alma glorifica al Señor
y mi espíritu se llena de júbilo en Dios, mi salvador,
porque puso sus ojos en la humildad de su esclava.

Desde ahora me llamarán dichosa todas las generaciones,
porque ha hecho en mí grandes cosas el que todo lo puede.
Santo es su nombre
y su misericordia llega de generación en generación
a los que lo temen.

Ha hecho sentir el poder de su brazo:
dispersó a los de corazón altanero,
destronó a los potentados
y exaltó a los humildes.
A los hambrientos los colmó de bienes
y a los ricos los despidió sin nada.

Acordándose de su misericordia,
vino en ayuda de Israel, su siervo,
como lo había prometido a nuestros padres,
a Abraham y a su descendencia
para siempre''.

María permaneció con Isabel unos tres meses, y luego regresó a su casa.

Mary set out
and traveled to the hill country in haste
to a town of Judah,
where she entered the house of Zechariah
and greeted Elizabeth.
When Elizabeth heard Mary's greeting,
the infant leaped in her womb,
and Elizabeth, filled with the Holy Spirit,
cried out in a loud voice and said,
"Blessed are you among women,
and blessed is the fruit of your womb.
And how does this happen to me,
that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
For at the moment the sound of your greeting reached my ears,
the infant in my womb leaped for joy.
Blessed are you who believed
that what was spoken to you by the Lord
would be fulfilled."

And Mary said:

"My soul proclaims the greatness of the Lord;
my spirit rejoices in God my Savior
for he has looked with favor on his lowly servant.
From this day all generations will call me blessed:
the Almighty has done great things for me
and holy is his Name.
He has mercy on those who fear him
in every generation.
He has shown the strength of his arm,
and has scattered the proud in their conceit.
He has cast down the mighty from their thrones,
and has lifted up the lowly.
He has filled the hungry with good things,
and the rich he has sent away empty.
He has come to the help of his servant Israel
for he has remembered his promise of mercy,
the promise he made to our fathers,
to Abraham and his children forever."

Mary remained with her about three months
and then returned to her home.

Meditation:

Hoy celebramos la fiesta de la Asuncion de Maria a los cielos.

No sé cuántos pueblos y ciudades celebran hoy su fiesta patronal. En la mitad de este mes caluroso y vacacional, la fiesta de la Asunción de la Virgen María marca un hito lleno de evocaciones. La liturgia se empeña en proponernos el dogma de la Asunción, pero tengo la impresión de que el sentir popular se dirige directamente a la figura de la Madre, sin detenerse mucho en el significado y en las implicaciones de este dogma. Lo siento por los predicadores que se afanan por reconducir la nave a buen puerto.

Lo mejor que se puede decir hoy está contenido en el evangelio. Este canto de María, el Magnificat, es como su testamento: lo que Ella nos diría como compendio de su experiencia de Dios y del hombre. No tiene desperdicio:

Dios es, sobre todo, fuente de alegría y de salvación: Se alegra mi espíritu en Dios mi salvador.

Dios es amor sin límites: Su misericordia se derrama de generación en generación.

Dios da un vuelco a nuestro mundo organizado injustamente de más a menos: Derriba del trono a los poderosos y enaltece a los humildes.

Así, y más, es el Dios de María.

María era decidida, activa y audaz, pero esto no significa que fuera arrogante. Simplemente decidió hacer aquello que Dios le pidió hacer. Sabía que no tenía fuerzas suficientes para cumplir el plan de Dios, pero eso no la detuvo, y no trató de eludir su misión por considerarse débil o indigna. En vez de considerarse incapaz, por un falso sentido de modestia, ella siguió adelante y confió plenamente en la fidelidad de Dios.

Hermano, el Señor te está llamando a construir su Reino, y te pide que lo hagas con humildad. Una persona humilde no se deja intimidar por lo desconocido, sino que actúa con fe y confianza en Dios. Al celebrar hoy la Asunción de la Virgen María, veamos su llegada al cielo como una joya valiosa que corona su humildad. Sí, Dios realmente “exaltó a los humildes” (Lucas 1, 52). Ella, que decidió dar un paso de fe, es ahora exaltada como reina del cielo y de la tierra.

“Señor Jesús, que elevaste a tu madre para que estuviera contigo en el cielo por su humilde y decisivo ‘sí’ al Padre, enséñame a ser humilde como ella.” Amen

Today we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of Mary to the heavens.

I don't know how many towns and cities celebrate their patron feast today. In the middle of this hot and holiday month, the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary marks a milestone full of evocations. The liturgy is determined to propose the dogma of the Assumption, but I have the impression that the popular feeling is directed directly to the figure of the Mother, without stopping much in the meaning and implications of this dogma. I am sorry for the preachers who strive to redirect the ship to fruition.

The best that can be said today is contained in the gospel. This song of Mary, the Magnificat, is like her testament: what She would tell us as a compendium of her experience of God and of man. It has no waste:

God is, above all, a source of joy and salvation: My spirit rejoices in God my savior.

God is love without limits: His mercy is poured from generation to generation.

God turns our world unfairly organized from more to less: Take down the throne from the throne and exalt the humble.

Thus, and more, it is the God of Mary.

Maria was determined, active and bold, but this does not mean she was arrogant. He simply decided to do what God asked him to do. He knew that he did not have enough strength to fulfill God's plan, but that did not stop him, and he did not try to avoid his mission because he considered himself weak or unworthy. Instead of considering herself incapable, because of a false sense of modesty, she went ahead and fully trusted in God's faithfulness.

Brother, the Lord is calling you to build his Kingdom, and asks you to do it with humility. A humble person is not intimidated by the unknown, but acts with faith and trust in God. As we celebrate today the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, let's see her arrival in heaven as a valuable jewel that crowns her humility. Yes, God really "exalted the humble" (Luke 1:52). She, who decided to take a step of faith, is now exalted as queen of heaven and earth.

“Lord Jesus, who raised your mother to be with you in heaven for her humble and decisive‘ yes ’to the Father, teach me to be humble like her.” Amen
