Odres nuevos

Lc 5, 33-39

En aquel tiempo, los fariseos y los escribas le preguntaron a Jesús: "¿Por qué los discípulos de Juan ayunan con frecuencia y hacen oración, igual que los discípulos de los fariseos, y los tuyos, en cambio, comen y beben?"

Jesús les contestó: "¿Acaso pueden ustedes obligar a los invitados a una boda a que ayunen, mientras el esposo está con ellos? Vendrá un día en que les quiten al esposo, y entonces sí ayunarán".

Les dijo también una parábola: "Nadie rompe un vestido nuevo para remendar uno viejo, porque echa a perder el nuevo, y al vestido viejo no le queda el remiendo del nuevo. Nadie echa vino nuevo en odres viejos, porque el vino nuevo revienta los odres y entonces el vino se tira y los odres se echan a perder. El vino nuevo hay que echarlo en odres nuevos y así se conservan el vino y los odres. Y nadie, acabando de beber un vino añejo, acepta uno nuevo, pues dice: 'El añejo es mejor'

The scribes and Pharisees said to Jesus,
"The disciples of John the Baptist fast often and offer prayers,
and the disciples of the Pharisees do the same;
but yours eat and drink."
Jesus answered them, "Can you make the wedding guests fast
while the bridegroom is with them?
But the days will come, and when the bridegroom is taken away from them,
then they will fast in those days."
And he also told them a parable.
"No one tears a piece from a new cloak to patch an old one.
Otherwise, he will tear the new
and the piece from it will not match the old cloak.
Likewise, no one pours new wine into old wineskins.
Otherwise, the new wine will burst the skins,
and it will be spilled, and the skins will be ruined.
Rather, new wine must be poured into fresh wineskins.
And no one who has been drinking old wine desires new,
for he says, 'The old is good.'"

Meditacion:

Si leemos la lectura de hoy juntamente con la de ayer, veremos una conexion profunda, algo que yo llamo "un mensaje en dos tiempos".

Por un lado, ayer nos hablaba el evangelio de fe, de confiar en Jesus y seguir sus mandatos.

Hoy, nos habla de no solo confiar y seguir sus mandatos sino de hacer los cambios que debemos hacer.

Y fijense algo, como esos actos aparentemente espirituales como orar y ayunar pierden sentido si perdemos de vista lo mas importante: Hacer la voluntad del Padre. Interesante verdad?

Al igual que los creyentes del tiempo de Cristo, tú también eres un odre y el Espíritu Santo está actuando en ti. Lo importante es que tengas la voluntad de no ser rígido, sino “estirarte” conforme el Espíritu te mueva. Por ejemplo, si un compañero de trabajo o un vecino no te resulta agradable, tal vez Dios te está llamando a ver a esa persona con más comprensión y paciencia. O bien, tal vez te quiere cambiar dándote un nuevo don o pidiéndote que utilices uno que ha estado inactivo desde hace tiempo. Tal vez ayudar a cuidar a un bebé, un anciano o un familiar enfermo te ha permitido “expandir” tu corazón. Este tipo de situaciones nos impulsan a confiar más en el Espíritu de Dios para que podamos adaptarnos en vez de “reventarnos”.

¿Hay algún aspecto de tu vida en el que te sientas “estirado”? Pide la gracia de ser “flexible” y para que así puedas compartir el amor y la presencia de Dios con quienes te rodean.

“Señor Jesús, Dios mío, ayúdame a ampliar mi entendimiento para llevar tu amor a familiares, amigos y conocidos.” Amen

If we read today's reading together with yesterday's, we will see a deep connection, something that I call "a two-time message".

On the one hand, yesterday we spoke the gospel of faith, of trusting Jesus and following his commands.

Today, he tells us not only to trust and follow his mandates but to make the changes we must make.

And look at something, such as those seemingly spiritual acts like praying and fasting, lose meaning if we lose sight of the most important thing: Do the will of the Father. Interesting right?

Like the believers of the time of Christ, you are also a skin and the Holy Spirit is acting in you. The important thing is that you have the will not to be rigid, but to "stretch" as the Spirit moves you. For example, if a co-worker or a neighbor is not pleasant to you, maybe God is calling you to see that person with more understanding and patience. Or, maybe he wants to change you by giving you a new gift or asking you to use one that has been inactive for a long time. Maybe helping to care for a baby, an elderly person or a sick relative has allowed you to "expand" your heart. These types of situations impel us to rely more on the Spirit of God so that we can adapt instead of "bursting."

Is there any aspect of your life where you feel "stretched"? Ask for the grace to be "flexible" and so that you can share God's love and presence with those around you.
