Pecadores...

Mt 9, 9-13

En aquel tiempo, Jesús vio a un hombre llamado Mateo, sentado a su mesa de recaudador de impuestos, y le dijo: “Sígueme”. Él se levantó y lo siguió.

Después, cuando estaba a la mesa en casa de Mateo, muchos pu¬bli¬canos y pecadores se sentaron también a comer con Jesús y sus discípulos. Viendo esto, los fariseos preguntaron a los discípulos: “¿Por qué su Maestro come con publicanos y pecadores?” Jesús los oyó y les dijo: “No son los sanos los que necesitan de médico, sino los enfermos. Vayan, pues, y aprendan lo que significa: Yo quiero misericordia y no sacrificios. Yo no he venido a llamar a los justos, sino a los pecadores”.

As Jesus passed by,
he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the customs post.
He said to him, "Follow me."
And he got up and followed him.
While he was at table in his house,
many tax collectors and sinners came
and sat with Jesus and his disciples.
The Pharisees saw this and said to his disciples,
"Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?"
He heard this and said,
"Those who are well do not need a physician, but the sick do.
Go and learn the meaning of the words,
I desire mercy, not sacrifice.
I did not come to call the righteous but sinners."

Meditacion:

Celebramos hay la fiesta de San Mateo, apóstol. El Evangelio nos recuerda su vocación. Ahí está Mateo, sentado a la mesa de los impuestos, alguien que se dedica a sangrar a la gente en nombre de los romanos. Quizá no hubiera nadie más despreciable a los ojos de los judíos contemporáneos de Jesús. Pero Jesús no pasa de largo frente a aquella mesa, se detiene, le mira a los ojos y le llama: “Ven y sígueme”, y le convierte en discípulo.

Pero la cosa no queda ahí, Mateo y sus amigos (publicanos y pecadores) se sientan a la misma mesa con el Maestro. Si hubiéramos sino nosotros fácilmente hubiéramos dicho que no resulta conveniente para la “causa” que nos vieran en compañía de personas de tan mala fama, no habríamos ahorrado la crítica, los dimes y diretes. Pero Jesús lo tiene claro, y así quiere mostrarlo, y por eso llama a Mateo y va a comer con sus amigos: Jesús no ha venido a buscar a los sanos, sino a los pecadores, y les echa en cara a los fariseos su falta de misericordia, su falta de compasión para con aquellos que reconociendo su pecado quieren tomar un nuevo rumbo a sus vidas.

Cuantas veces nosotros actuamos así… emitimos un juicio sobre las personas, y ya es un juicio para toda la eternidad. Nunca nos acusarán de ingenuos porque no nos fiamos fácilmente de los otros. Esa es la distancia entre Jesús y nosotros, mientras que Él siempre mantiene la esperanza en las personas y por eso suspende todo juicio, nosotros condenamos eternamente, basados en nuestra mirada superficial y mezquina.

Cuándo aprenderemos el significado de la palabra misericordia?

"Señor ayudame a ser mas misericordioso conmigo mismo y mis hermanos" Amen

We celebrate there is the feast of St. Matthew, apostle. The Gospel reminds us of his vocation. There is Matthew, sitting at the tax table, someone who is bleeding people on behalf of the Romans. Perhaps there was no one more despicable in the eyes of the contemporary Jews of Jesus. But Jesus does not pass by in front of that table, he stops, looks into his eyes and calls him: "Come and follow me", and make him a disciple.

But the thing is not there, Matthew and his friends (publicans and sinners) sit at the same table with the Master. If only we had said that it is not convenient for the "cause" to be seen in the company of people of such a bad reputation, we would not have saved criticism, dimes and diretes. But Jesus is clear about it, and so he wants to show it, and that is why he calls Matthew and goes to eat with his friends: Jesus has not come to look for the healthy ones, but the sinners, and casts his fault on the Pharisees of mercy, their lack of compassion towards those who recognizing their sin want to take a new direction to their lives.

How many times we act like this ... we make a judgment on people, and it is already a judgment for all eternity. They will never accuse us of being naive because we don't trust others easily. That is the distance between Jesus and us, while He always maintains hope in people and therefore suspends all judgment, we condemn eternally, based on our shallow and petty gaze.

When will we learn the meaning of the word mercy?

"Lord help me to be more merciful to myself and my brothers" Amen
