Lc 5, 27-32

En aquel tiempo, vio Jesús a un publicano, llamado Leví (Mateo), sentado en su despacho de recaudador de impuestos, y le dijo: “Sígueme”. Él, dejándolo todo, se levantó y lo siguió.

Leví ofreció en su casa un gran banquete en honor de Jesús, y estaban a la mesa, con ellos, un gran número de publicanos y otras personas. Los fariseos y los escribas criticaban por eso a los discípulos, diciéndoles: “¿Por qué comen y beben con publicanos y pecadores?” Jesús les respondió: “No son los sanos los que necesitan al médico, sino los enfermos. No he venido a llamar a los justos, sino a los pecadores, para que se conviertan”.

Jesus saw a tax collector named Levi sitting at the customs post.
He said to him, “Follow me.”
And leaving everything behind, he got up and followed him.
Then Levi gave a great banquet for him in his house,
and a large crowd of tax collectors
and others were at table with them.
The Pharisees and their scribes complained to his disciples, saying,
“Why do you eat and drink with tax collectors and sinners?”
Jesus said to them in reply,
“Those who are healthy do not need a physician, but the sick do.
I have not come to call the righteous to repentance but sinners.”

Meditacion:

La primera lectura de hoy es una de las mas poderosas que leeremos en esta semana "Cuando renuncies a oprimir a los demás

y destierres de ti el gesto amenazador y la palabra ofensiva;

cuando compartas tu pan con el hambriento

y sacies la necesidad del humillado,

brillará tu luz en las tinieblas

y tu oscuridad será como el mediodía.

El Señor te dará reposo permanente;

en el desierto saciará tu hambre y dará vigor a tu cuerpo;

serás como un huerto bien regado,

como un manantial cuyas aguas no se agotan" dice el Profeta Isaias.

Y en el evangelio vemos como esto se cumple. Jesus ve a Levi, un publicano, el encargado de cobrar impuestos, alguien que sin duda era corrupto en sus funciones.

Pero Jesus ve algo mas, transpasa esa primera mirada y lo llama y Levi, llamado Mateo desde entonces, futuro autor de uno de los Evangelios, abandona todo y sigue a Jesus.

El mirar de Dios y el mirar de los seres humanos; el mirar desde el amor y el de los intereses más particulares y egocéntricos; el punto de mira del amor misericordioso y el del prejuicio justiciero de las apariencias.

Una mirada de Dios a cada uno que se vuelve llamada e invitación al seguimiento. Cuando se siente la “mirada de Dios” entonces se produce el milagro de vivir con un corazón sanado de prejuicio, del miedo, y de la egolatría que frecuentemente embarga a esta humanidad. Por eso el prójimo es nuestra mejor medicina, la que Dios nos da.

Entre la primera lectura y el evangelio hay dos momentos particulares: la llamada y el seguimiento, con un cambio total del corazon.

Meditemos en esto mientras vemos pasar el primer sabado de cuaresma.

“Amado Jesucristo, muchas veces pienso que no te necesito, pero tú sabes lo que hay en mi corazón. Señor, ¡claro que te necesito! Ven, te lo ruego, con la medicina de tu misericordia, para que yo conozca tu gracia y tu presencia.” Amen

Today's first reading is one of the most powerful we will read this week "When you give up oppressing others

and banish the threatening gesture and the offensive word from you;

when you share your bread with the hungry

and satisfy the need for humiliation,

your light will shine in the darkness

And your darkness will be like noon.

The Lord will give you permanent rest;

in the desert it will satisfy your hunger and give vigor to your body;

You will be like a well-watered garden,

like a spring whose waters are not depleted "says the Prophet Isaias.

And in the gospel we see how this is accomplished. Jesus sees Levi, a publican, in charge of collecting taxes, someone who was undoubtedly corrupt in his duties.

But Jesus sees something else, passes that first glance and calls him and Levi, called Matthew since then, future author of one of the Gospels, abandons everything and follows Jesus.

The look of God and the look of human beings; looking from love and that of the most particular and egocentric interests; the crosshairs of merciful love and that of the just prejudice of appearances.

A look from God to everyone who becomes called and invited to follow up. When you feel the "gaze of God" then there is the miracle of living with a heart healed of prejudice, fear, and the egolatry that frequently overwhelms this humanity. That is why our neighbor is our best medicine, the one God gives us.

Between the first reading and the gospel there are two particular moments: the call and the follow-up, with a total change of the heart.

Let's meditate on this while we watch the first Saturday of Lent.

“Beloved Jesus Christ, I often think that I do not need you, but you know what is in my heart. Lord, of course I need you! Come, I beg you, with the medicine of your mercy, so that I may know your grace and your presence. ” Amen
