Lc 9, 22-25

En aquel tiempo, Jesús dijo a sus discípulos: “Es necesario que el Hijo del hombre sufra mucho, que sea rechazado por los ancianos, los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas, que sea entregado a la muerte y que resucite al tercer día”.

Luego, dirigiéndose a la multitud, les dijo: “Si alguno quiere acompañarme, que no se busque a sí mismo, que tome su cruz de cada día y me siga.

Pues el que quiera conservar para sí mismo su vida, la perderá; pero el que la pierda por mi causa, ése la encontrará. En efecto, ¿de qué le sirve al hombre ganar todo el mundo, si se pierde a sí mismo o se destruye?’’

Jesus said to his disciples:
“The Son of Man must suffer greatly and be rejected
by the elders, the chief priests, and the scribes,
and be killed and on the third day be raised.”

Then he said to all,
 “If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”

Meditacion:

Si has decidido emprender el itinerario de la Cuaresma pasando el umbral de la Ceniza, no está de más leer con atención las instrucciones que dan las lecturas de hoy, comenzando por el Deuteronomio: “Pongo ante ti vida y bien, muerte y mal; ... si eliges … tendrás...”. Cuando nuestros padres nos educan en los primeros pasos de la libertad suelen decirnos con frecuencia ante elecciones absurdas: “luego no digas que….” o “atente a las consecuencias…. y cuando vengan los resultados no te quejes...”

Es lo lógico, si pones tus ahorros y esfuerzos en una buena empresa, lo normal será obtener beneficios, tranquilidad, prosperidad, dicha y felicidad o por lo menos así nos lo prometen. Pero si te gusta arriesgar en negocios y asuntos poco fiables…. “atente a las consecuencias” muerte y mal son inherentes a tu elección y a los devaneos en que te prodigaste.

Sin embargo el evangelio de Jesús rompe esta lógica y nos invita a poner en práctica las reglas inversas: Si quieres vida, escoge muerte; porque quien se agarra a la ficha de su vida, pierde la partida y a sí mismo.

Parecen dos maneras muy distintas de ver y valorar la vida -en realidad iguales, aunque la literalidad haya podido llevar a lecturas antagónicas en la historia- : Comodidad, tranquilidad, bienestar, placer, seguridad, ser bueno para sí mismo y ante el espejo…como ideal de vida. Por otro lado y con mirada evangélica: Esfuerzo por el cambio interior, inquietud ante las dolencias del mundo y las carencias de los otros -a quienes me “aprojimo” y de quienes me hago cargo, más allá del cansancio, hasta la cruz-, aprender a disfrutar la vida en la felicidad, los logros e incluso los dolores de los otros. Fuera envidia, competitividad, afán de poder y deseo de tener más….

La propuesta de Jesús es clara y la hemos escuchado muchas veces de una u otra manera, ¡cargar cada jornada con la vida!, la de los demás, desviviéndome en ellos, pronunciando sus nombres en el corazón para amarlos al modo en que Dios los ama, vivir en actitud de servicio constante ante las precariedades que se presentan y afrontar los retos por mejorar la realidad en la que estamos sumergidos, tratando de liberar ataduras y esclavitudes propias y ajenas.

Para quien desde la fe no entiende otra autoridad que el servir hasta dar la vida por amor, cargar cada jornada con la cruz de la vida es auténtica fuente de vida y dadora de sentido en la búsqueda de realización humana. y jamás entendida como castigo, como la entendieron los poderosos al cargarla sobre Jesús.

“Señor, ayúdame a privarme de todo aquello que me impida seguirte.” Amen

They seem to be two very different ways of seeing and valuing life - in reality the same, although the literalness has been able to lead to antagonistic readings in history-: Comfort, tranquility, well-being, pleasure, security, being good for yourself and in the mirror ... As ideal of life. On the other hand and with an evangelical look: Effort for inner change, restlessness in the face of the ailments of the world and the shortcomings of others - whom I “approve” and who I take care of, beyond fatigue, even the cross-, Learn to enjoy life in happiness, achievements and even the pains of others. Out envy, competitiveness, desire for power and desire to have more ...

Jesus' proposal is clear and we have heard it many times in one way or another, to load each day with life!, That of others, living in them, pronouncing their names in their hearts to love them in the way that God love, live in an attitude of constant service to the precariousness that arise and face the challenges of improving the reality in which we are submerged, trying to release ties and slaves of our own and others.

For those who from faith do not understand any other authority than to serve until they give their lives for love, carrying each day with the cross of life is a true source of life and gives meaning in the search for human fulfillment. and never understood as punishment, as the powerful understood it when carrying it on Jesus.
